MARGINS
salvation avenue.
by Akinmayowa Adedoyin Shobo
Akinmayowa is a life science researcher, writer and volunteer for community
development projects. He resides in Lagos, Nigeria.
Considering the theme ‘Anew’, the poet re-creates the theme using a religious
setting. This poem transcends what people associate with the new year, and it
talks about the courage to start afresh, perhaps after an unpleasant situation
such as an illness, loss of a loved one, & heartbreak among others.
Do you need a rebirth?
A sparkling new life
Of miracles,
Devoid of ill winds.
A perfect haven of pure tranquility
Something energetic,
Assuring as the daylight
Down this eerie path of Becoming
Come beloved!
Or
Is it a fresh boom?
To send all doom to a bottomless grave
That kills fears
A clean slate?
Devoid of yesterday shame
Free of the muckiness
Of all mental prisons.
Do you dream of a sweet tomorrow?
A harvest of the most enthralling,
Collages of happiness.
Love unconstrained
Bound by a sash of undying hope as the Sun,
Something electric,
A touch of healing to a hopeless soul?
Come Beloved,
To the Salvation Avenue.
