OPPORTUNITY PROFILE
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

LETTER FROM THE BOARD
Through innovation and creativity, and by the grace of God, we are breaking the cycle of poverty for abandoned,
abused and vulnerable children in Nicaragua. We have been blessed with significant growth over the past several
years and we are excited about our opportunity to continue expanding the impact of this ministry within Nicaragua.
In the last 10 years, our annual budget has increased from $700,000 to $6.2mm, and every year we have been well
funded by generous investors in our mission. The number of children we serve has increased from 1,000 to 23,000.
We support the children through 254 Local Church Initiatives, which we have established to partner with respected
Nicaraguan pastors. Of these 254 LCIs, 199 provide basic nutritional needs to almost 15,797 children. In addition,
we have 55 LCIs where we not only feed 5,940 children, but also provide additional core services, including periodic
health assessments for the purpose of tracking and wiping out malnutrition. The measurable impact we have made
tells a compelling story for our investors.
In addition, in 33 of the communities we support, working through local teachers, we have 1,322 children in our
After School Education Programs. As these children get older, they benefit from the additional education.
Through our SMART Missions®, investors and highly qualified individuals from our partner churches are training
these transition students in job search skills. In 2020, 19 transition students landed internships that will help them
get good starter jobs. For example, we are sourcing Nicaragua’s growing garment manufacturing industry with fully
trained, job-ready employees. Students are trained 15 at a time, in an environment that replicates a real shop floor
in a garment manufacturing plant. This job-readiness is highly desirable to employers in this significantly growing
industry.
Healthy Beginnings is an innovative program we designed to wipe-out malnutrition before the largely irreversible
damage it can cause. Young mothers are educated and empowered to proactively care for their childrens’ development,
dispelling myths and cultural norms that have prevented generations of children from developing to their full
potential. The atmosphere is supportive and the material presented is unique in communities of abject poverty.
Led by the Lord, we are going deeper into the poorest areas of Nicaragua to offer all these children a brighter future.
Our present Chief Executive Officer, Dick Anderson, has served in this role for 12 years, and at the age of 67 he wishes
to step down from his role as CEO. To lead us into the future, we are looking for a CEO who will build on the existing
foundation and take ORPHANetwork to new levels of service and impact.
This Opportunity Profile and video will introduce you to the search we are conducting. We invite you to get to know
us better through our website, www.ORPHANetwork.org. Please review this material prayerfully and let us know if
you believe God might be calling you to ORPHANetwork.
The ORPHANetwork Board of Directors

HISTORY / OVERVIEW
ORPHANetwork began in a humble yet passionate way. In the mid 1990’s, a high school youth group from Spring Branch
Church in Virginia Beach went on a mission trip to Nicaragua. What they saw and experienced was a level of poverty that
wrecked them. There were so many children who lacked food, education and good housing. It was a window into a world
they had never seen before.
After returning home, they were determined to DO something about what they had seen. They sold their CDs and
electronics – one teen even sold his clothes to raise money and awareness for the plight of the children they met in
Nicaragua. It took two years for the adults around them to take notice of how serious these youth were.
The pastor of the church led a team of businessmen to Nicaragua to see for themselves what the youth were so passionate
about. Like the youth, these business leaders were deeply moved by what they saw. Soon, the entire church got behind the
efforts of a few high school students and began to help two orphanages in Nicaragua.
It wasn’t long before it became clear that it would take much more than one church to help the children in a tangible way.
Why couldn’t there be a network of individuals, churches, businesses that would have God’s heart for orphans? Out of this,
ORPHANetwork was born in the year 2000.
ORPHANetwork has since reached beyond the two orphanages and expanded its ministry by partnering with pastors and
churches all over the country to rescue abandoned, abused and orphaned children, prevent abandonment and create
opportunities for a new life in Christ.
Now 20 years later, God is not done. He has opened doors for ORPHANetwork to become involved with over 200 local
churches as they tackle the problem of malnourishment among children in the communities surrounding their churches.
As ORPHANetwork began to assist churches and make connections with food providers - Local Church Initiatives (LCIs)
were born. These LCIs address the issues of malnourishment, stunting and poor health head on.
Today, malnourishment rates in the areas we serve have dropped dramatically from 36% to 6%, children have access to
medical and dental care through the local church, and ORPHANetwork is serving more than 23,000 children each day. All
because a youth group from a start-up church called Spring Branch Community Church thought they could change the
world – one child at a time.

THE ORPHANetwork
MODEL OF MINISTRY
ORPHANetwork only works through the Local Church in Nicaragua with one exception, that being a Christian
school. This comes from a belief that the Local Church with Jesus Christ at the center, is the Hope of the World.
ORPHANetwork identifies successful local Nicaraguan leaders and resources their efforts. When ORPHANetwork
is satisfied that the local leader shares their Vision and Values, they get behind the local leader’s effort.
ORPHANetwork’s belief is that it is the Nicaraguans who must solve the problems of Nicaragua! ORPHANetwork
loves to come alongside and encourage, resource, consult, provide professional help, and more, but at
the end of the day it is the Nicaraguans who must solve their own problems in order for the solutions to be
long term and sustainable. To accomplish this, ORPHANetwork’s Country Director, Eddy Morales -- who grew
up in poverty in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua -- takes point leadership for working directly with the ministry’s
Nicaraguan partners. Eddy currently lives with his family in Managua.
THE ORPHANetwork
STATEMENT OF FAITH
AS A CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION, ORPHANetwork BELIEVES:
• The Bible is the inspired word of God and is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2
Timothy 3:16-17)
• There is one living sovereign God who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Rev. 1:8;
Isaiah 43:10-11; Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19)
• God created people in his image and everyone matters to God. (Gen. 1:26-27; Gen. 5:1-2)
• Jesus was sent by the Father to live on earth; he was fully God and fully human yet had no sin. Jesus willingly
laid down his life and after three days rose from the grave. In doing this Jesus fulfilled the payment for the
world’s debt of sin. (Luke 1:31,35; 1 Cor. 15:3; 2 Cor. 5:21)
• All people are sinners and need God’s forgiveness. (Romans 3:23)
• Those who confess and turn from their sin, trusting in Jesus Christ, will be saved by grace and become
children of God with the promise of eternal life. (John 3:16-17; Gal. 3:26)
• Jesus Christ is the head of the church and all believing people are members. (Eph. 4:15-16)
• The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and Son to convict the world of sin and to empower all who believe in
Jesus Christ. He lives in every believer and is a constant teacher, helper and guide. (John 14:16-17)
• Jesus Christ will return and there will be a final judgment. (Matt. 24:3,37)

THE ORPHANetwork
DIFFERENCE
ORPHANetwork is different than other NGOs in at least three distinct ways.
KEEPING THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING
The Board and leadership of ORPHANetwork worked hard not to have mission creep, or become all things to all
people in Nicaragua. They have reached a critical mass of serving 23,000 children in Nicaragua and have made
a conscious decision to go deep into the lives of these kids. Obviously there is a lot more that can be done to
break the cycle of poverty in Nicaragua but at this time ORPHANetwork chooses to remain focused on their
small segment of the need.
THE FUNDING MODEL
The funding model for ORPHANetwork is made up of diverse support from many different sources. The major
support comes from individuals, In Kind organization, U.S. churches, businesses and orphan care ministries.
This approach allows for greater stability in funding.
ORPHANetwork’s funding model is different than that of most NGOs. It is based upon investor retention which
grows from a clear understanding of the business model and a deep commitment to the ministry. The bulk of
their funding comes from high net worth families who travel to Nicaragua, catch the vision for what ORPHANetwork
is doing and make a three year commitment to the ministry. Because most of these people are business
owners and corporate executives, they understand long range planning and see the value of the funding model.
We are able to attract this type of funding because we measure our results and are able to convey a powerful
story of impact. Plus, the investors know personally the pastors and leaders they are resourcing. They have the
opportunity to be involved in the ministry and not just write a check.
DECENTRALIZED FUNDRAISING
As CEO, Dick Anderson has devoted a great deal of time attracting new investors to ORPHANetwork. In many
cases he has also involved in that fundraising various Board members and Eddy Morales, who is responsible for
all operations in Nicaragua. In truth, everyone in the organization is expected to be involved in sharing
the mission, vision and encouraging the donor base. This will be true for the new CEO, who will be:
• identifying new major investors and cultivating relationships with these families,
• working with corporations to increase Gifts In-Kind, and
• working with local churches in the United States through the SMART Missions® program
