NOTE
“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to
keep.” — Scott Adams. Being an artist isn’t just about putting pencil to paper,
or brush to canvas. Art can and does mean so much more than that, to so many
people. Art is a way of seeing the world, a way of expression, oftentimes a
compulsion: we simply must create!
“Being content & confident
in YOUR skills & YOURSELF
is of the utmost importance
if you want to make a
difference in the world with
your art.”
Impressionism was based on
light and the subject that was
being painted or drawn. Instead
of creating smoothly blended
sombre colours, the standards for
French painting, the Impressionist
placed separate touches of vibrantly
contrasting colours directly onto
the canvas without prior mixing on
the palette. If you look closely at a
small section of an Impressionist
painting, you will see many individual
brushstrokes of varying colours,
placed side by side with no blending
– a jumble of color daubs. The artist
attempted to paint what the eye
actually sees, rather than what the
brain interprets from visual cues. For
example, if you look at a house in the
distance and you know intellectually
that the house is painted a uniform
colour of yellow; you might "see"
all one shade of yellow, because
your brain tells you that is correct.
However, your eyes register many
variations of yellow, depending on
how light strike the house and the
shadow it creates. This is what the
Impressionists were after – the true.
Tessa Nicole is an American artist,
is specialized Impressionist Palette
Knife Oil Painting, she is a self
taught artist. Using her oil paints
and palette knife she has created
remarkable work of art. She doesn’t
follow any current trends but tries
to follow her own style that keeps
her artistries so elegant and unique.
She admires the great Monet & Van
Gogh. She is greatly inspired by the
leading impressionist painters which
can be seen in her artworks.
She aims to spread, “Joy &
Elegance,” through her aesthetically
pleasing artistry. She was first a
songwriter/classical pianist for
years, then she picked up painting
as a “side hobby” in 2015. It quickly
took over as her main passion, and
in 2017, she began working as a fulltime
palette knife oil painter. When
asked what she is proud of she
says, “Being self-taught. Though
it can be seen as negative in the
art community, I am proud to have
learned all my skills purely by trial
& error, & by a natural inclination to
add something original to the world.
Originality is the key in life... Remain
inspired, but make it your own.”
Before April of 2020, her sole
outlet for showing her work was
through Fine Art Shows. Since
then, she have had to take on as
she says the evil-of-all-evils, social
media. Her social media platform
has grown exponentially as she
has had to get more creative with
the marketing. While it has been a
stressful and a difficult year, it has
still been a record year for her work;
it just shows that when one puts in
Joy out in the world, no matter the
circumstances, people WANT IT!
Her message to the fellow artists
is, “Never compare yourself with
others, whether that may be other
artists or simply other people we
see on social media platforms.
Being content & confident in YOUR
skills & YOURSELF is of the utmost
importance if you want to make a
difference in the world with your
art.” Her greatest inspiration is
the almighty. She says, “He is the
ultimate artist & I owe all of my
success/talent to Him” She idolizes,
no matter what it
may be (i.e. dance,
student’s first priority.
Oscar-Claude Monet who was a
French painter, a founder of French
Impressionist painting and the most
consistent and prolific practitioner
of the movement's philosophy of
expressing one's perceptions before
nature, especially as applied to plein
Cache of Historic Photography, Including a Famed Portrait of Susan B,
FOUND IN THE HIDDEN ROOM OF A
LAWYER’S OFFICE
A
lawyer looking for a
new office stumbled
upon a trove of historic
photographs when he
discovered a secret attic
in the three-story building he bought
last December in Geneva, New York.
Among the finds in the hidden trove
was a rare portrait of suffragist
Susan B. Anthony.
David J. Whitcomb, 43, was
changing a light bulb on the building’s
third floor when he realized the
ceiling looked strange. That was
because it was a drop ceiling,
installed decades ago to convert
the space into an apartment unit.
Whitcomb spotted an access panel,
climbed up on a stack of chairs, and
peered inside with a flashlight.
“The first thing I saw was a whole
bunch of picture frames stacked
together and these frames are
gorgeous. They’re the turn-of-thecentury,
they’re gold, gilded, and
they shone really bright and I was
like, ‘Oh my God,’” he told. “I lowered
myself and said, ‘I think we just
found The Goonies treasure.’”
The building’s two previous
owners knew nothing of the hidden
space, meaning it had been boarded
up some time before the 1960s.
Papers in the stash featured
the name of James Ellery Hale, or
J.E. Hale. The Geneva Historical
Society connected Whitcomb to its
former president, Dan Weinstock,
who explained that Hale was a
photographer who lived in the town
from 1892 to 1920. He moved
his studio to Whitcomb’s building
sometime after 1900.
The collection
also features at
least two other
prominent early
women’s rights
leaders, Elizabeth
Cady Stanton and
Elizabeth Smith
Miller.
Born in 1850, Hale had
photographed President Grover
Cleveland’s fiancé Francis Folsom
in 1885, as well as many other
early suffragists, displaying their
portraits at the 1907 New York
State Woman Suffrage Association
in Geneva.
The Anthony photograph was
taken in 1905, the year before
her death. The Susan B. Anthony
Memorial Association used it as her
official portrait after Hale gave them
the rights to the image. A clipping of
a newspaper article featuring the
same photo is part of the collection
of the Library of Congress in
Washington, DC.
Whitcomb found pieces of the
glass negative used to print the
photograph, but fears the part
featuring her face has been lost. He
is hoping a local photographer can
help develop images from some of
the 50 intact glass negatives in the
trove, which also includes burlap
sacks full of hundreds of prints,
images of Geneva sports teams,
cameras, and props and photo
backdrops Hale would have used in
his shoots.
The collection also features at
least two other prominent early
women’s rights leaders, Elizabeth
Cady Stanton and Elizabeth Smith
Miller. Most of the photographs’
subjects have yet to be identified.
Whitcomb has consigned his find
to One Source Auctions & Antiques
in Canandaigua, New York, where the
trove was appraised at $100,000.
The Anthony photograph alone
could fetch between $10,000
and $50,000
“It’s a very uncommon find,
especially this being the main photo
of Susan B. Anthony on file at the
Library of Congress,” the auction
house’s Aaron Kirvan told the
Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
“What’s amazing is that this
material sat in this building for over
a century, forgotten,” Whitcomb
added. “Someone just dry-walled
over this attic and it was lost to
history until we discovered it, and
it’s telling a very interesting story.”
For the First Time Christie’s TO AUCTION OFF
DIGITAL ARTWORK
These works, which are now
known as Everydays, form
one of the most celebrated
bodies of work in the history
of digital art.
From 25th February, Christie’s
is opening online only sale for
bidding of what it described
as the first ever purely digital
artwork. “Everydays – The
First 5000 Days,” by the American
digital artist Beeple, consists of
all the works of art that he has
made over the course of 13 years.
Christie’s in New York said that
because the venture was so new for
the auction house the bidding will
start at just $100.
The sale signifies the important
milestone in the development of the
market for digital art. Everydays –
The First 5000 Days is a monumental
work consisting of 5,000 individual
images, one made each day over the
course of 13 years, from 2007 to
2021, giving viewers the opportunity
to zoom in and witness Beeple’s
often irreverent but always engaging
evolution as
an artist pixel
by pixel. The
artist showed
his 13 years of
work in a single
work perfectly
which shows the
limitless nature of this medium.
On May 1, 2007, the artist set
out to create and post a new work
of art every day indefinitely, and
has not missed a single day in 13
years. These works, which are now
known as Everydays, form one of
the most celebrated bodies of work
in the history of digital art. The First
5000 Days comprises every single
individual image from Beeple’s first
5,000 Everydays compiled into a
single composition.
Beeple’s artwork is rich with
brazen symbolism in his examination
of social contradictions and
absurdities. Utilizing his signature
grotesque, hypnotizing digital style,
the artist tackles themes such as
society’s simultaneous obsession
with and fear of technology, desire
and resentment towards wealth, and
of course, the political turbulence of
recent years.The First 5000 Days
is a purely digital work of art, which
is a Non-Fungible Token. An NFT is
a unique digital token encrypted
with the artist’s signature, which
is individually identified on the
blockchain, effectively verifying the
rightful owner and authenticity of an
original digital creation.
Digital Art has a long established
history as an artistic medium, but
until the recent introduction of
NFTs and blockchain technology, it
was impossible to assign value to
digital works of art given the ease
of duplication. Beeple is one of the
most sought after digital artists
within this market, having recently
sold a collection of 20 works at
auction for $3.5 million on another
blockchain-based platform.
Christie’s, the leading auction
house by market share, is not known
for its forays in experimenting with
emerging markets. But with the
current sale, the house seems to be
changing course.
An illustration can be derived back as
far as the Lascaux cave paintings
from the prehistoric era. An illustrator
is depicting the ultimate form of
whatever their piece is. An illustrator
needn't provide any thought to things outside
of the view of their illustration. An illustration
could be a lovely form of fashionable art and
it's one amongst the foremost artistic forms.
Whether an illustrator can do concept art or
vice versa is entirely down to the individual
artist. The illustration needs a lot of artistic
talent than concept art, as the finished
piece should be visually appealing and
convey a message, evoke emotion, or tell
a story. Conversely, thought art needs a lot
of pragmatic manner of thinking. Because
the finished piece should reflect the
physical realities of the issue it's
conceptualizing.
A Russian artist, Lesya Guseva, is an
artist who specialized in Illustration,
character design, and comics. The
main goal of art is the interrelation
of people with something wonderful,
sensitive, interesting, and beautiful,
sometimes even unexplainable and
contradictory. Whether we realize it
or not, art is everywhere influencing
us. And Lesya's work is so different
Most of her works are of different
famous personalities. She is
inspired by Life, events, people,
vibrant and perfect.
and out of the box. Most of her
events, people, and situations that
take place around her. Her artworks
are so vibrant and perfect. She
makes sure they are realistic and
different at the same time. They
are all different forms of art. Some
artist has a traditional view and
prefers artworks that speak for the
artist and a particular period.
As we know that Art is a technique
to express certain emotions to bind
ourselves in the root. If we go back
five thousand or more than five
thousand, we find that Art had an
integral role not only in expressing
emotions or ideas but in the
development of mankind. She gives
a very strong message to the fellow
artists, “listen to your heart” which
is such a beautiful saying. Following
one’s heart is the last thing we
humans do. But if we follow our
hearts world would be a better and
beautiful place to live in. Her fine
artistry suggests the dedication
and amount of time and hard work
she puts in each of her works. To
some digital art or illustrations may
seem easy but it one of the most
difficult art forms and needs a lot
of skill and patience. According to
her, every person has a different
point of view which is true. She also
She idolizes Denis Zilber who is one
sends strong messages through
illustrator but a comic artist as well.
Some of her amazing illustrations
about Rihanna, Leonardo DiCaprio,
works. She has also worked with
Even After 18,000 years, ANCIENT SHELL
HORN CAN STILL PLAY A TUNE
A large conch
shell overlooked
in a museum for
decades is now
thought to be
the oldest known
seashell instrument
and it still works,
producing a deep,
plaintive bleat, like
a foghorn from the
distant past.
Ancient Europeans made
a horn out of a large
seashell and blew musical
notes out of it roughly
18,000 years ago, a new
study suggests. While it’s not
known how ancient people used the
shell horn, conch shells in historical
and modern cultures have served
as musical instruments, calling or
signaling devices and sacred or
magical objects.
A large conch shell overlooked
in a museum for decades is now
thought to be the oldest known
seashell instrument and it still
works, producing a deep, plaintive
bleat, like a foghorn from the distant
past. The shell was found during
the 1931 excavation of a cave with
prehistoric wall paintings in the
French Pyrenees and assumed to be
a ceremonial drinking cup.
Conch shells have been used
widely in musical and ceremonial
traditions, including in ancient
Greece, Japan, India and Peru.
The shell instrument found in the
Marsoulas cave is now the oldest
known example.
The latest discovery was made
after a recent inventory at the
Natural History Museum of Toulouse.
The researchers noticed some
unusual holes in the shell. Crucially,
the tip of the shell was broken off,
creating a hole large enough to blow
through. Microscopic inspection
revealed the opening was the result
of deliberate craftsmanship, not
accidental wear.
By inserting a tiny medical
camera, they found that another
hole had been carefully drilled in
the shell’s inner chamber. They also
detected traces of red pigment on
the mouth of the conch, matching a
decorative pattern found on the wall
of Marsoulas cave.
Archaeologists feared that
playing the 12-inch (31-centimeter)
shell might damage it, but it didn’t.
The horn produced clear C, C sharp
and D notes.
Margaret Conkey, an archaeologist
at the University of California,
Berkeley, said that this shell is a
classic and its discovery reminds
them that the lives then were much
richer and more complex than just
stone tools and big game.
Using a 3D replica, the
archaeologists plan to continue
studying the horn’s range of notes.
Tosello said he hopes to hear the
ancient instrument played inside
the cave where it was found.
Art is a different language.
It is a medium of
communicating social
issues, the good and the
evil. Art speaks volumes.
Art is all about imagination, creation,
and experiences. Art is sacred and
a calming journey. It depends on
how one uses it. Art requires
dedication, thoughts, and
patience. Art keeps a
person sane; it boosts
a persons' mural and
keeps them alive. It
helps a person to live
an optimistic life.
It always suggests
hope and it cannot
be destroyed. A
true artist can find
his inspiration from
everything.
Murat Yildirim a
Turkish artist who
specialized in Digital
and 3D art lives in Turkey.
With digital art, you can do
anything and Murat artworks
are a true example of it. Murat
is an ingenious artist and it is
reflected in his artworks. Murat’s
Instagram @muartive is brimming
with his creative illustrations and
animations. His works are satisfying
to watch. Murat following all the
trends of digital arts is generally
influenced by architectural
concepts and conceptual art. His
paintings aim to raise awareness
among the
people,
about freedom, consumer societies,
and he tries to reveal them in a
surreal way by using objects in a
poetic nature. Which itself shows
that he is the epitome of talent.
Murat through his works likes to
give heavy and important messages
and his artistry has a great impact
on the viewer. It sparks the need to
think.
Murat tries to follow a color theme
and has different color Palettes
for different moods. His
artworks are full of pleasant
pastel shades. The mind
of an artist is always on
fleek. An artist's mind
is like an ocean it has
colors, imaginations,
dreams, and fiction.
Murat developed
his career by
working constantly.
He believes that
everyone is talented
but the real issue is
how you handle the
ability. He feels when
pure talent is not studied,
it is of no use. His artworks
show that he has worked very
hard for his career by doing that
he became internalized spiritually.
He has always tried to portray the
truth in his brain and heart, as the
art he does stimulates emotions.
Murat feels proud when someone
understands and feels the hard work
he puts in his pieces. Sometimes
that he is not being able to express
his ideas and do enough justice to
famous Mona Lisa and words fail to
that is unprecedented to the world.
His exquisite works have spread
worldwide.
Murat’s point of view on art is that it
is not only important for the student
but also the whole world. He believes
that two factors improve a country
that is art values and science.
He strongly believes art creates
peace and enlightens people. Art
never stops its existence. Feelings
that are born under the pressure
of pieces of art are important in
developing the world’s outlook and
14-year-old Dubai Boy APPRECIATED BY INDIAN
PM MR. NARENDRA MODI
Saran Sasikumar,
a grade nine
student of New
Indian Model
School in Dubai
had made a six-layered
stencil portrait of Modi
as a tribute to mark the
Indian Republic Day that
fell on January 26. He got
a letter of appreciation
from Mr. Narendra Modi
saying that his drawing
portrays his love and
affection for the nation.
to be gifted to Modi. After receiving
the portrait, Mr. Modi sent him a
The sculpture is not a fixed-term that applies
to a permanently circumscribed class of
objects or sets of activities. It is, rather, the
name of anart that grows and changes and is
frequently extending the range of its activities
and evolving new types of objects. Since the turn of
additionally enclosed abstract forms. It’s long been
accepted that the varieties of such useful threedimensional
objects as furniture, pots, and buildings
are also communicative and exquisite without being
in any way representational; however it had been
solely within the 20th century that nonfunctional,
nonrepresentational, three-dimensional works of art
a great artist-a master-and that is what Auguste Rodin
was-can look at an old woman, portray her exactly as
she is...and force the viewer to see the pretty girl
she used to be...and more than that, he can make
anyone with the sensitivity of an armadillo, or
even you, see that this lovely young girl is still alive, not
old and ugly at all, but simply prisoned inside her ruined
Abstract art is art that
doesn't attempt to
represent an accurate
depiction of a visual
reality however instead
use shapes, colours, forms and
gestural merks to attain its effect.
The term may be applied to art that
is based mostly an object, figure
or landscape, wherever forms are
simplified or schematised. It’s
additionally applied to art that
uses forms, such as geometric
shapes or gestural merks, which
have no source in any respect of
an external visual reality. Some
artists of this ‘pure’ abstraction
have most well-liked terms such
as concrete art or non-objective art,
but in practice the word abstract is
employed across the board and also
the distinction between the 2 isn't
perpetually obvious. Abstractionism
is commonly seen as carrying
an ethical dimension, therein it
may be seen to stand for virtues
corresponding to order, purity,
simplicity and spirituality. Since the
first 1900s, abstract art has shaped
a central stream of modern art.
Sebastian Merk is from Germany
“the land of poets and thinkers”.
He is an abstractionist. All his
paintings spread a sense of
positivity and happiness. The use
of the beautiful basic colors makes
his work so vibrant and astounding.
Mr Merk loves to name his paintings
with whatever he feels while he is
making them which are so unique.
He also follows different trends like
Modern Art, Contemporary Art, and
Abtract Art.
Mr. Merk artistry aims to show,
“My art captivates the viewer with
its intense colours. It reminds one of
another world where the viewer can
linger and forget his/her problems
for a while. Eyes are wandering over
the canvas constantly discovering
new things. Get lost, relax and take
a step back, forget your problems
for a while.” Swirling shapes, an
array of colourful patterns, the trail
of a flowing stream cutting through
fields of lush vegetation... or even
you see pure energy and cosmic
flow? One can never really say
what exactly the see in a person’s
painting. Our perception depends on
Abstract art is open to interpretation,
Abstract art is open to
interpretation, and that is one of the
beautiful things about it. The truth is,
abstract art is not "about nothing".
At its basis, it is about form, color,
line, texture, pattern, composition
and process. These are the formal
qualities of artwork, because they
describe what the art looks like and
how it is created. The message he
wants to give to the fellow artists
is, “Paint. Paint much, go within
yourself and get everything out that
needs to come out. Put it on the
canvas and discover your own style.”
He also adds that art is a way to
express oneself. A person has to dig
deep and understand themselves.
The focus should always be to
create something for the matter of
creation and not to sell it.
Mr Merk believes in going with
the flow, he gets inspired by colour
combinations and also tries to
analyze his works. He gets inspired
by graffiti, sunsets, and nature.
He also believes that some artists
are interesting because of their
career path and some are more
interesting because of their art and
the message they convey through
their pieces.
Van Gogh Portrait from LONDON COLLECTION
TO SELL AT CHRISTIE’S
According to the specialist, the work
shows the influence of Japonisme, a
tendency to draw on styles imported from
Japan in 19th-century France.
A
drawing by Vincent Van
Gogh made during the
artist’s final years will sell
at Christie’s as part of the
drawing collection sale
titled “A Family Collection: Works on
Paper, Van Gogh to Freud” on March 1
in New York. Estimated at $7 million
– $10 million, the work is titled
La Mousmé (1888).
The rare drawing comes from the
family collection of London dealer
Thomas Gibson and depicts an
anonymous young female sitter.
It is the last work of a group of 12
originally gifted by the artist to
Australian painter John Russell that
still remains in private hands. Other
works from that gift, which include
9 landscapes and 2 portraits are
held by the Guggenheim Museum
in New York, the Philadelphia
Museum of Art, the Saint Louis Art
Museum, the National Gallery of Art
in Washington, D.C., and the Getty
Museum in Los Angeles.
“The work is incredibly rare,” said
Giovanna Bertazzoni, Christies
co-head of 20th and 21st century
art department, adding
that pieces of this
quality typically end up in
museums. “When I saw it
in the flesh for the first
time, I was very moved.”
Van Gogh made the drawing
after he completed a painting of
the same sitter that now resides
at the National Gallery of Art. Van
Gogh took inspiration for the work
from a Pierre Loti’s 1887 novel
Madame Chrysanthème, which
centers around a young woman in
a relationship with a naval officer
based in Japan. “The drawing is sort
of reinterpretation of the subject,”
said Bertazzoni. According to the
specialist, the work shows the
influence of Japonisme, a tendency
to draw on styles imported from
Japan in 19th-century France. At
the time this work was created, van
Gogh was working in Arles.
Russell sold La Mousmé
anonymously at auction in Paris
in 1920, and it was acquired later
in 1928 by Amsterdam-based
collectors Kurt and Henriette H.
Hirschland. In 1936, the Jewish
couple fled the Netherlands, and
the drawing was transferred among
the Hirschlands’ neighbors as they
faced prosecution. Eventually, the
work ended up at Amsterdam’s
Stedelijk Museum in 1943. In 1956,
five years after its exhibition in
a show at the museum, the work
was returned to the family. Gibson
acquired the work through the
Hirschlands’ heirs in 1983. The work
subsequently traveled to the Royal
Academy of Arts in London, the Tate,
and the Metropolitan Museum of Art
in New York, among others.
Three Van Gogh drawings have
achieved prices near the value of
La Mousmé, all of them landscapes
sold nearly two decades ago. The
record for a drawing by Van Gogh
is held by La moisson en Provence
Garden of Flowers (1888), a pen
and ink landscape which sold for
$14.6 million in 1997 at Sotheby’s
in London. When it sold it again, in
2003, it made only $10.3 million.
Jardin de fleurs (1888) sold for $8.4
million at Christie’s in 1990, and
Olive Trees with Les Alpilles (1889)
went for $8.5 million at Sotheby’s
in 1999. In Christie’s early March
sale, the Van Gogh will sell alongside
seven works by Rene Magritte,
Lucian Freud, and Henri Matisse that
are expected to fetch a collected
$15.8 million.
Roger Scruton once said, “The great
artists of the past were aware that
human life is full of chaos and
suffering. But they had a remedy for
this. And the name of that remedy
was a beauty. The beautiful work of art
brings consolation in sorrow and affirmation
in joy. It shows human life to be worthwhile.”
Abstract Expressionism started in America
as a post-world war II artistic movement. It
was the primary art movement that arose
from America and place New York in the
middle of the art world. The term artistic
movement was first applied to American art
in 1946 by art critic Robert Coates. It’s most
typically aforementioned that Surrealism is
its precursor as a result of the utilization of
spontaneous, automatic, and subconscious
creations. Abstract Expressionism gets
its name from the combining of emotional
intensity and self-expression of German
Expressionists and therefore the antifigurative
aesthetics of abstract schools
where Futurism, architectural style, and
artificial art movement came from.
Vera Jochum is an abstract
expressionist from Germany,
specialized in paintings and collage
her feelings to the viewers. This
can be something different for each
Her message to the other artists is,
“be brave and go your own way and
She tries to be influenced as little
is inspired by the little things. It
can be a view from a moving car, a
certain object that fascinates her,
a color combination or technique
she wants to try, or simply a scent
that appeals to her. She idolizes
Georges Braque who was a major
20th-century French painter,
collagist, draughtsman, printmaker,
and sculptor. His most important
contributions to the history of art
were in his alliance with Fauvism
from 1905, and the role he played
in the development of Cubism. One
of his famous sayings goes like this,
“Truth exists; only falsehood has to
be invented. Art is made to disturb,
science reassures. Reality only
reveals itself when it is illuminated
by a ray of poetry.”
According to her, art from a
student’s point of view is, “I am
not the right person to answer
this. I have never studied art.
Everything I do comes from my urge
to experiment and express myself.
I try to be influenced as little
as possible. That's hard enough
these days, and I think it's almost
impossible with a degree because
professors are very influential. But
Etihad Airways to Upcycle
AIRCRAFT PARTS INTO ART
By collaborating with
artists from the local
community, our goal is
to not only showcase
talent within the region,
but to further encourage
sustainable innovation
that’s good for the
environment”.
Etihad Airways has partnered
with local artists to upcycle
obsolete aircraft parts as
an environmentally friendly
alternative of dealing with
waste, that would otherwise have
gone to landfill. Several pieces of
art have been created from old
cabin interiors, with elements from
carpets to emergency equipment
being transformed into works of art.
Around 94% of an aircraft can be
reused or recycled at the end of its
life. This could see fully functional
cockpit equipment becoming a
spare part for another aircraft or
aluminum fuselage finding a new life
as a keyring.
Using aircraft curtains, wall
panels, life jackets and cabin
interiors, Christine Wilson, an
emerging artist from Ireland based in
Dubai, designed a multidimensional
upcycled art piece to encapsulate a
textural zeitgeist of Etihad.
Emirati sculptor Azza Al Qubaisi’s
first art piece used seat floor
mounting rails as a building motif
to create symmetric geometric
formations that can be displayed
free standing or suspended from
the ceiling.
Terry Daly, executive director
of Guest Experience, Brand &
Marketing said: “End-of-life parts
that were destined for landfill have
been repurposed into beautiful art
instillations by skilled artists who
used rare and unwanted aircraft
scraps. By collaborating with artists
from the local community, our goal is
to not only showcase talent within
the region, but to further encourage
sustainable innovation that’s good
for the environment”.
The pieces of art that Etihad has
commissioned are now on display
at the airline’s headquarters. The
airline is hoping that it will be able to
commission more such pieces of art
in the future.
Sacha Jafri, on his world record and
his brave initiative, said, “It was an
honor to receive the Guinness World
than a painting, it is my initiative for
true societal change through the
hearts, minds & souls of the children
“The Largest Art Canvas is a record
70 individually framed pieces of
‘The Journey of Humanity’ will be
sold across four auctions in 2021
art canvas in the world but also the
Largest Artistic Social philanthropic
THE ROYAL UNVEILING
On the 25th of February, this
masterpiece returns to the place
of its creation, the enormous 2100
meters squared Atlantis ballroom.
This will be the first time that the
canvas is ‘reunited’ as each framed
piece will be assembled, recreating
the original painting.
With special viewing platforms and
a maze through which the painting
can be viewed, the Royal Unveiling
promises to be an auspicious moment
to be enjoyed by a select few.
Founder of Global Gift
how “Sacha´s achievement in
setting the Guinness World Record
for ‘The Largest Art Canvas’ in
the name of philanthropy is just
monumental and speaks volumes
of his generosity and kindness. The
effort behind this project is huge
but will mean we can make a tangible
difference to children in need around
“We are
confident that the
humanitarian cause
behind the achievement
will inspire people.
We congratulate him
Jafri’s charitable initiative
‘Humanity Inspired’ aims to raise more
than $30 million (USD) and is imbued
by his vision to connect people for a
more conscious and empathetic world
post the COVID-19 pandemic.
I want to be the Kandinsky of my
Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al
Nahayan, Cabinet Member, Minister
of Tolerance and Coexistence in
partnership with Dubai Cares, part
of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum Global Initiatives and
Atlantis, The Palm. Considered the
largest worldwide social, artistic and
philanthropic initiative in history,
the painting was created in Atlantis,
the Palm’s ballroom, which was
converted into the artist’s studio,
where Sacha spent a period of 28
weeks from March to September
2020 during the lockdown.
When asked ‘what does art
mean to you?’ he said, “I strongly
believe that art resembles one’s
inner feelings, expressing them the
way one wants to express. A lot of
people may not understand it but
it may have another sentimental
feeling for the person who created
it especially when it comes to
a painting like, ‘The Journey of
Humanity’ that touches upon
children, humanity, and universal
outreach. Coming from a country
that has been through 3 lockdowns,
and has been famous for commerce
and tourism, our leadership, the
government, the private and health
sector played a big role, having the
best safety measures in the world
on how to manage the virus, and
having all of that on one side and
hopefully having the government to
look at the side on how can we get
back commerce and tourism, the
initiative pops up saying, the money
from the auctions and the paintings
are not going to the countries or
him. But will go to global platforms
and UN initiatives that will set a new
benchmark. Education will not be
distributed.”
‘What Inspired you to take up the
journey’ he said to his teammates, “I
am in lockdown and devastated, and
we are blessed with a country that
has a good system and measures on
how to convert normal schooling to
remote learning, but what about the
other children’s who are not equally
blessed.” He had the social purpose
but didn’t have the delivery vehicle
to give a source to his vision. So,
they would plug him into the global
platforms and UN platforms, and
make a framework on how to avoid
any future disruption on education.
He came from a whole different
angle. Fundraising and resource
making was done a lot but no one
was doing it through culture and art,
and he is popping up from the sector
and saying that “I am just a global
citizen trying to make a change”.
When asked whether he had any
special message towards the art
sector in the world, his message to
the fellow artists was that anything
works by focusing on art and culture.
Take your dreams and believe in your
vision of what you want to achieve.
It will happen. But most importantly
have a vision and believe in it. And
get the right partners.”
From February to May 2021,
selected pieces from ‘The Journey
of Humanity’, along with Jafri’s much
celebrated ‘18yr Retrospective
Collection’ will be on show at the
largest gallery in the UAE, the Leila
Heller Gallery, which is located in
Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. He truly
defines the quote, ‘Be the change
you want to see.’
ART INTERVIEW
HIS EXCELLENCY
DR. TARIQ AL GURG,
DUBAI CARES IN
CONVERSATION WITH
MAGZOID
While making a piece, one worries
about the thing they are making and he
feels as an Artist one should focus on the
person they are and make every effort
one can to live in grace.
Dubai Cares is impacting the lives of more
than 20 million individuals in 60 developing
countries and continues to play a vital role
in helping achieve the UN’s Sustainable
Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to
ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for
children and youth and promote lifelong learning by
2030. Sacha Jafri’s record-breaking painting, ‘The
Journey of Humanity’, now described
as ‘The Modern-Day Sistine Chapel’,
is part of his charitable initiative
‘Humanity Inspired’, supported by
over 100 A-list celebrities, was
launched under the patronage of
His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan
Mabarak Al Nahayan, Cabinet
Member, Minister of Tolerance
and Coexistence in partnership
with Dubai Cares, part of the
Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum Global Initiatives and
Atlantis, The Palm.
His Excellency Dr. Tariq Al Gurg in
conversation with Magzoid was asked ‘how were you
as a person before this project and after?’ He said,
While making a piece, one worries about the thing
they are making and he feels as an Artist one should
focus on the person they are and make every effort
one can to live in grace. And every now and then, a
beautiful moment will be given to the person, they
borrow a moment and something magical happens,
and one should get back with grace and gratitude.
The next moment comes, but only if you keep the
ego detached, and as soon as one engages the ego,
and they think that they did it and one doesn’t realise
that they are actually just borrowing the moment,
and it doesn’t come back to them, and they call it
‘Creator’s block’ and he thinks it is actually not living
the life of grace and gratitude. And if these moments
do come, and you think you own them engage in in
ego, and don’t give it back and be grateful, then it will
never come again. And this is something he learned
throughout the journey. Because the moments kept
coming back and he felt that he might be doing
something right. He gave it the focus, and let it grow,
then something really beautiful came out of it. He
also added, “You can learn more from the children in
the world, then you can ever teach them.”
2021 ART CALENDAR. THE ANNUAL ARTS FESTIVAL, WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF HIS
HIGHNESS SHEIKH SAUD BIN SAQR AL QASIMI, UAE SUPREME COUNCIL MEMBER AND RULER OF RAS AL KHAIMAH,
OPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON SATURDAY, 6 FEBRUARY AND WILL RUN UNTIL SATURDAY, 3 APRIL 2021, WITH ALL
INTERNATIONAL STANDARD COVID19 SAFETY GUIDELINES IN PLACE.
March 2021 www.magzoid.com 47

ART EXHIBITION
“AS WE BEGIN 2021,
IT IS MORE IMPORTANT
THAN EVER THAT WE
COME TOGETHER AS
A COMMUNITY, IN A
SAFE WAY, TO
CELEBRATE ART,
CULTURE, AND
CREATIVITY. WE MUST
UNITE TO SHARE THE
CHALLENGES OF THE
PAST YEAR, TO
REBUILD, AND TO
EXCHANGE DREAMS
FOR THE FUTURE.
The historic Ras Al Khaimah pearling village of Al Jazirah Al Hamra
which has been the Festival’s home for the past two years will once
again provide the central backdrop for the Festival. However, this
year’s Festival will also see two new exciting mini-exhibition sites within
the Emirate: the public viewing deck of the UAE’s highest peak Jebel
Jais and the Open Park on Al Marjan Island.
With the theme of Hope - a theme that
reflects the re-opening of the arts
following the past year’s closures - the
outdoor exhibition of art, photography,
and sculpture, set within the Heritage
Village and now at Jebel Jais and Al Marjan, will present
more than 130 artworks by a diverse mix of artists from
some 49 countries. There is a vibrant program of film
screenings, workshops, guided tours, and other events
held across the Festival’s various locations. Artworks
and programming are curated around the theme of Hope.
In the year of the UAE’s 50th anniversary, the Festival is
looking to the past and exploring the future through the
lens of contemporary art at a time when hope is central
to our daily lives. Whether responding to the theme by
considering human connection, the environment, or
the current pandemic, each work and activity explores
where hope is found, where it is built, and how it is
shared. In a rapidly changing world of new technologies,
urbanization, climate change, and COVID-19, the Festival
is asking the critical question, how can hope inspire art,
and art inspire hope?
This year, the Festival is also partnering for the first
time with Art Dubai and The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi
to provide joint events. These new collaborations show
RAKFAF’s commitment to connecting and developing
the UAE’s wider cultural community.
The Festival’s Director, Suqrat bin Bisher, said: “As we
begin 2021, it is more important than ever that we come
together as a community, in a safe way, to celebrate
art, culture, and creativity. We must unite to share the
challenges of the past year, to rebuild, and to exchange
dreams for the future. We are delighted to announce the
program for the 9th edition of RAKFAF and very much
look forward to welcoming visitors and our community
in-person to the Festival across its various locations
this year.” “Al Jazirah Al Hamra Heritage Village has
been such a successful venue for us over the last two
years and we are delighted to return this year and also
add two new satellite locations, the stunning backdrop
of Jebel Jais and Al Marjan Island, further widening
Azza Al Nuaimi is a passionate
young graphic designer from Ras Al
Khaimah, and her Gmar from 2020
places heritage and contemporary
design in conversation. Using a retro
70s style and pop art inspiration, it
elicits the village's infrastructure
while admiring how the buildings
appear to change between sunrise
and sunset.
Emirati photographer Nuwair Al
Hejari is a member of the Emirates
Photography Society, and her work,
Harvest, shot in the Bidya desert in
Oman last year, depicts a bountiful
harvest bringing good tidings for the
year ahead.
Faisal Al Rais is an Emirati conceptual
artist and photographer who is
strongly influenced by the work of
American street photographer Vivian
Maier. Through his photography, Al Rais
aims to deconstruct, reconstruct,
and highlight the beauty found in
life’s simplest things. Dreamer, from
2020, looks at the unsurmountable
imagination of children and children as
dreamers as they consider what they
would like to be when they grow up.
Om Kalthoom Al Alawi is a visual artist from Saudi Arabia. Her work, entitled Stand
Up Together II, highlights how, through collaboration, we bring hope for humanity
and that we are stronger together than we are alone. The abstract figures and
contrasting colors express humanity’s diversity, asserting that it is our differences
that make us strong.
Shadab Khan is an
Indian contemporary artist
based in Dubai. He draws
inspiration from the beauty
seen in life through the
telescope, microscope,
or naked eye. Lost in
Dream from 2019 asserts
that while unavoidable
circumstances will make
us lose track of our dream,
hope can bring us back.
It depicts that dreams
are more powerful than
reality and hope will always
triumph.
whilst enabling them to
Venue: (DIFC) from
29 Mar, to 3 Apr 2021
Art Dubai is a leading
international art fair, diving
into the life and practice
of a selection of some of
the finest practitioners
across the Global South. The 14th
edition of Art Dubai will happen in
Dubai International Financial Centre
(DIFC) from 29 March–3 April 2021,
with Magzoid as their Media Partner.
The new purpose-built structure
will house around 45 galleries, and
will run for an extended six days.
This will offer greater flexibility
to visitors, whilst enabling them
to more efficiently regulate the
number of people attending the fair
at any point in time, in accordance
with the necessary safety and
social distancing measures. A
booking system through their new
app will enable them to operate on
an appointment-only basis or open
as normal, a decision they will take
closer to the fair, guided by the
latest advice.
Having consulted all the
stakeholders and taken into account
a wide range of factors, they remain
confident in producing a physical
edition of this year’s fair. Their new
plan takes into account health and
safety protocols, travel and other
COVID-related restrictions, along
with the continued commitment
from their local community who wish
to attend an in-person art event.
It is expected that by the end of
March they will be able to operate
in a more open environment.
However, additional programming
and collateral exhibitions outside
the fair will be subject to conditions
at that time and will be announced
closer to the fair. If restrictions are
eased, the new location will allow
them to take advantage of the many
facilities DIFC offers, including
the region’s best restaurants and
members clubs, for social events
and wider programming.
Centrally set between new and
old Dubai, DIFC is a vivacious
financial center, business hub, and
resident to a variety of the region’s
best retailers, members clubs, and
restaurants. Every year Art Dubai
invites a creator or inventive to
participate in planning the fair’s
visual identity. Though the emblem
remains in its constant flux, annually
the visual campaign is reinvented
and takes on a brand-new aesthetic.
This method echo’s the originality
of Art Dubai’s program and also the
flexibility of the fair’s model. Art
Dubai has continued to figure with
Hani Charaf of native artistic studio
Kemistry Design, for the 2020
and 2021 visual campaigns. The
Art Dubai 2021 graphic campaign
celebrates the fiftieth day of the
unification of the United Arab
Emirates and options rare historical
pictures taken on 2 December
1971, showcasing the occasion
and festivities from the day the
agreement was made.
In an exceedingly similar style
of reflection and celebration of
the UAE’s history, the campaign
conjointly features images from
some of the earliest art exhibitions
to take place within the UAE.
ART OF FITNESS
In Conversation with
Christina Pilavaki
fitness expert from Cyprus
- Exclusive to Magzoid
I
come from Cyprus. At the
age of 12 started training
professionally, on both short
and long distances for cross
country and athletics. 3 years
later I was member of the national
team with biggest achievement in
1992 at the World School Cross
country Championship. My love for
sports grew bigger and more thirsty
to learn and share. After school
went to university and granted with
Sports and science degree with
honors. After university since today
have been working as a personal
trainer. The last 23 years!!!
How to progress a simple plank
in 7 ways.
Progressing an exercise it means
you can maintain the fundamental
movement which is plank and also
add some additional difficulty to
it. If you cannot maintain the basic
exercise then your should repeat as
many times as possible till you can
add the next element to it.
You should never sacrifice
Quality over Quantity. What that
means?
If you can add that extra element
and after 2 reps you cannot hold the
basic exercise you should return
to the basic and every time add
one more rep. During the exercise
keep breathing through out and
keep a nice steady tempo along the
movement.
1 Plank
Full plank, shoulders should be
under the shoulders. Maintain
strong toes. Strong snd tight quads
and glutes. Inhale through the nose
exhale through the mouth.
2 Plank hand tap
Full plank and maintaining it strong
start alternately tapping the hands.
Keep all the above tight, exhale
when tapping the hand inhale when
back to plank.
3 Plank elbow tap
Maintaining the plank, lift right hand
palm and tap the left elbow without
moving or twisting the body.
Continue alternating the arms.
Exhale when tapping the elbow,
inhale when back to plank.
4 Plank shoulder tap.
Maintaining the plank a bit more
challenge tap the shoulder, with
no moving or twisting the body.
Exhale when tapping the
shoulder, inhale back to plank
5 Plank tummy tap
In plank position push the
body back ,hips pike up at the
ceiling. Head in between the
shoulders. Tap tummy and
push body back to full plank.
Repeat with the other arm.
Exhale when push back and
inhale when back to plank.
6 Plank knee tap
In plank position push
the body back, hips
up at the ceiling. Head
between the shoulders.
Tap alternately the
knee and push back
to full plank. Exhale
when push back and
inhale when back to
plank.
7 Plank toes tap
In plank position push the body all
the way back ,pike as high as you
can and tap toes. Head should be
in between the arms. Exhale when
touching toes and inhale back to
full plank.
DIGITAL REMIXING
BY DEX HANNON
https://dexhannon.co.uk/
Portrait by
Mark J Hillyer
Dex Hannon regularly exhibits in the UK, and in 2020 he was awarded the ‘Best
in Show’ prize for the inaugural Art Folio Annual Award. Dex Hannon currently
works and lives in Yorkshire, UK. He uses music as his main source of
inspiration. His art transforms the memories and emotions evoked while
listening to music into dynamic and expressive brushstrokes on canvas.
Hannon’s paintings are sublime pictorial symphonies characterised by an
intricate weaving of lines that capture an infinite string of emotions conveyed
through a range of textures and bold colour palettes.
Hannon gives a new life to his paintings by “digitally remixing” his paintings.
This allows him to give life to a brand-new artwork that reimagines and reinterprets
the original. The end result is often completely different from the original painting, yet it
is still part of it, because without the first, the remix would not exist.
The Decline of Empires (Sold limited edition
This is the digital remix of a remix painting,
A STATE OF HIGHER TRANSIENCE
THE DECLINE OF EMPIRES
This painting THE DECLINE OF EMPIRES and the music are a
reflection of 2020 through my lens. For the first time, I created
the painting and the music simultaneously. As I worked on the
ideas I wanted to show on the painting, I composed the music,
and while I painted, I worked through the music in my mind.
Acrylic on Canvas
74cm x 74cm 4cm
A STATE OF HIGHER TRANSIENCE
This is a reinterpretation of that original work. This can be
part of a conversation between the original paintings
concept, an agreement or can be taken into a whole different
direction and meaning. Limited edition of 10 - Signed and
numbered by the artist Once 10 have been sold the original
file is destroyed.
SPINE
He uses
music as his main
source of inspiration. His
art transforms the memories
and emotions evoked while
listening to music into
dynamic and expressive
brushstrokes on
canvas.
This painting, SPINE, is not about what to add more, but it is
about knowing when to stop: while using rapid brush strokes
and mixing the paint directly onto the canvas surface, I tried
to cause the layers to move together in unison and at the
same time rise barriers. Painted while listening to the
complex compressive metal song Lateralus, by Tool, I
juxtapose the two different energies against each other on
the surface in order to create depth. This painting was
shortlisted for the 2019 Refresh Art Prize
