Designed to meet the evolving needs of adolescent learners,
our Secondary School programme offers students a range of
opportunities to grow intellectually, physically, socially and
emotionally. Through both the curriculum and co-curriculum,
students engage in rich and authentic experiences that
connect their learning to the world beyond school and
inspire them to make a difference in their communities.
Founded in 2000, Hong Kong Academy is an international, non-profit school located in Sai Kung, New Territories. Our
award-winning, sustainable campus and unique educational programmes provide a happy and healthy learning
environment for students in Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 12. HKA’s exceptional faculty and support staff, low
student:teacher ratio and strong home-school partnerships are central to nurturing our diverse and inclusive community.
HKA’s holistic approach to education means that we focus on how students learn as well as what they learn. A fully
authorised, three programme International Baccalaureate World School, we use the Primary Years, Middle Years and
Diploma Programmes along with HKA-developed frameworks to engage students in authentic learning experiences at
every grade level. All HKA students graduate with an HKA Diploma and the Global Citizen Diploma Certificate.
Beyond the classroom, we offer a wide range of activities that inspire students to find their passions and grow as
individuals. Whether on the stage or the sportsground, in the laboratory or the library, behind the camera or the
computer, HKA students are encouraged to pursue their interests and contribute to their communities.

A HOLISTIC EDUCATION FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW
Teaching and learning at HKA is dynamic, engaging and student-centred. Innovative
and future-focussed programmes support students to develop into independent and
self-directed learners. We use the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme
(IB MYP) and Diploma Programme (IB DP) to deliver a rigorous, robust and balanced
curriculum. In every subject area, students are challenged to think critically and creatively
as well as communicate precisely and effectively. They develop research, collaboration and
self-management skills that transfer across contexts. From Grade 6 to Grade 12, students
build upon their strengths, identify areas for further growth and reflect on their interests
and aspirations to determine their best-fit pathway to graduation.
NURTURING GLOBAL CITIZENS
As an international community, we recognise the
importance of educating students to contribute to
the world in meaningful and sustainable ways. HKA
students engage with a wide range of partner
organisations and use their passions to launch their own
initiatives. This commitment to self-directed learning
culminates in the Global Citizen Diploma, a credential
that celebrates each student’s individual journey
towards global citizenship.

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
HKA students are motivated to act based on their
interests, passions and strengths. Whether during
a service project, on a sports pitch or through a
performance, we provide an extensive range of
opportunities for personal growth and sustained
commitment that are enhanced in the co-curricular
context. Secondary School students initiate clubs and
activities that promote community engagement and
participate in a number of field trips and off-campus
excursions throughout the year.

We believe that every child has gifts to be nurtured and
celebrated. We challenge, motivate and support each student
to achieve their greatest potential, and our inclusive learning
environment mirrors the real world in its diversity and
complexity. This commitment to inclusivity begins with our
youngest learners and extends through to graduation. For
students at every age, counselling and wellbeing are
fundamental aspects of our programme. Additional
interventions, extensions and language instruction are also
available through personalised learner enhancements.

INSPIRING ON THE STAGE
Through the performing arts, students create, collaborate
and innovate, elevating their talents in music, dance,
drama and theatre tech. Our world-class rehearsal and
performance spaces include a 350-seat professional grade
theatre, 80-seat studio theatre, dance studios, music
studios and noise-isolation practice spaces. We are home
to the International Schools Theatre Association
Performing Arts Academy, which connects students
with industry professionals via masterclasses, workshops
and internships.
LEADING ON THE COURT
Our sports programme focuses on the development of
collaboration, leadership and technical skills through
both recreational and competitive play. Student athletes
represent HKA in a wide range of individual and team
events at competitions both locally and internationally.
Our 800-seat gymnasium, indoor climbing wall,
multi-purpose outdoor sports court, all-weather football
pitch, fitness studios and weight training gym support
athletes to achieve their sporting goals all year round.

POST-SECONDARY PURSUITS
We are a truly global community, with over 40 nationalities
represented within our student body. Each year, HKA students
pursue various types of international post-secondary education
and employment opportunities. Recent graduates are studying
a diverse range of subjects such as architecture, biochemistry,
business, mathematics, music and philosophy at their first-choice
universities in North America, Europe and Asia. About 10-15% of
students may defer tertiary studies to complete national service
in their home countries, gain work experience or take a gap year.
ALUMNI AROUND THE WORLD
With over 200 graduates since 2012, we have
alumni living, studying and working all over
the world. Composed of graduates and former
students, families and employees, the HKA
Alumni Network is a global community. Alumni
bring our mission and core values to life as they
pursue their pathways to individual excellence
and engage in responsible action. As a tight-knit
community, we stay in close contact with this
important facet of our community and continue to
celebrate their successes beyond HKA.
I can say that I wouldn’t be where I am without a lot of the
people who are a part of the HKA community. They have
supported my passions and ambitions and I feel like even though
I’ve now graduated, HKA created this environment where
you actually miss the school itself. I know that when I come
back to visit Hong Kong, I won’t just come back to visit my
family, I will also come back to see my HKA family.
