Tranquility selling art, clothing<br />
Karen Isherwood’s little spot<br />
of tranquility has become a<br />
shopshe has called<br />
Tranquility.<br />
Karen, who moved to<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong>several years ago<br />
fromquakeravaged<br />
Christchurch, has set up a<br />
retail andrelaxspace where<br />
customers canbrowse unique<br />
clothing and artwork, then sit<br />
in thegarden with acup of tea<br />
or juice.<br />
There’splentyof colourin<br />
the shop and the gardens and<br />
Karen saysshe deliberately<br />
chooses items that are ‘‘a little<br />
bit different’’<br />
She has abackgroundin<br />
hospitality andran acafe at<br />
QE2parkbefore it was<br />
damaged by the 2011<br />
earthquakes.<br />
In <strong>Ashburton</strong>she has raised<br />
agranddaughter, become an<br />
excellent gardenerand then<br />
last year bought the boutique<br />
clothing businessthatwas run<br />
by Tonee Hurley.<br />
Karen then converted a<br />
separate building at her house<br />
on the corner of Victoria<br />
Street and Chalmers Avenue<br />
andTranquility evolved. She<br />
sells top label preloved<br />
clothing, jewellery,upcycled<br />
furniture andmosaics that she<br />
Karen Isherwood in her peaceful little retail spot.<br />
mainly creates.<br />
She saysit’s not the usual<br />
retail experience. People can<br />
visit on Fridays and Saturdays,<br />
between10amand 2pm,<br />
browse theracks andarty<br />
items then sit to enjoythe<br />
garden’speace and quiet.<br />
Karen sources her clothing<br />
from Christchurch and says<br />
