were in gallery attendance and came to Centre Table where they were available to
respond to questions from Council if requested.
Gallery:
Elaine Rimmer, 1080 LaSalle Avenue, was in attendance and came to Centre Table.
Ms. Rimmer advised that the owners of the residences close to Steamers Pub maintain
their homes. She spoke of the lower Victoria Street area and how it was a nicer area
when the property owners lived in the neighbourhood, but when it became
predominantly renters, crime in the area increased dramatically. She said this section
of Queensway is not far away from that Victoria Street neighbourhood, and she is
concerned that something similar could happen here. Ms. Rimmer advised that she
had been contacted by Denise Volpert who lives across from the Alpine Pub, and that
Ms. Volpert noted concerns she has with the patio at that pub. Ms. Rimmer said that
she would like to enjoy sitting on her patio.
Ms. Rudolph returned to Centre Table and advised that the RCMP often park across
the street to watch for drinking drivers. She expressed her belief that the noise of the
patio patrons will be considerably reduced with the proposed concrete and glass
barrier.
