As we move
into the summer
months, my diary
is starting to look
a little more how
it used to.
As further lockdown restrictions
are lifted, the city welcomes more
entertainment and things to do
both outdoors and in. So, with
that in mind, keeping our fingers
sanitised and tightly crossed,
let’s take a look at what’s on in
and around our wonderful city
over the next couple of months.
Let’s start with those events that
the Great British weather can
often decide the success of…
Inflatable Family Fun Days
take place at Mellish Rugby Club
(3-6 Jun). Advanced tickets will
be available to buy and collect
from the club on June 2. Tickets
will still be available on the day,
subject to availability.
For something a little more
serene, join Belvoir Castle as
they celebrate horticulture by
hosting a Flower and Garden
Show within the stunning grounds
at the castle (17 - 18 Jul).
For something a little different,
bag yourself a bargain at the
Mapperley Safari Sale taking
place on June 6. Digital and
paper maps will be available so
you can go from house to house.
Basically, everyone has a yard
sale on the same day. Homes
taking part will pay a small charge
to be included that will go to
the Haywood Road Community
Centre, a charity run by volunteers
that has not been able to generate
income during lockdown, so this
will be a great help.
This next one sounds
enchanting…Journey over
the rainbow to the beautiful
woodland of Rufford Abbey
(2 - 13 Jun). Immerse yourself
in the family favourite ‘The
Wizard of Oz’ as you explore
outdoor theatre, dance, music
and comedy combined with
some modern ‘twisters’ along
the way. Guided by Dorothy
herself, you will be taken down
the yellow brick road through
a magical forest meeting the
beloved characters during your

Parkrun are planning to restart
adult 5km events in England from
Saturday 5 June with runs taking
place each Saturday at 9am at
the Forest Recreation Ground.
If you prefer the easier option of
watching sport, then tickets for
the 2021 Vitality Blast season
at Trent Bridge are now on sale.
An Outlaws line-up packed with
international quality will defend
their Vitality Blast trophy at this
world-class venue this summer

The Nottingham Open also
returns as men’s and women’s
tennis combine once again for
an explosive week of on-court
action at the Nottingham Tennis
Centre (5-13 June 2021).
Wollaton Hall and Deer Park
have a number of events lined
up this summer, starting with
open air theatre performances
in the grounds surrounding
the house. You can catch: Mr
Stink (12 Jun), Wonders with
Grim (27 Jun), Macbeth (8 Jul),
Dr Dolittle (11 Jul), Mr Stink
(second show 30 Jul).
We also see the return
of Splendour (24 Jul) as
internationally renowned artists
once again share the stage with
local upcoming talents for this
one-day family-friendly festival.
Careful where you go though,
you might come face to face with
a T-Rex!! (4 Jul 2021 – 31 Aug
2022) Titus:
T. rex is King is an extraordinary

rex to be displayed

There are a number of outdoor
cinema events across Nottingham.
Notts Maize Maze, just outside
Arnold has a great selection of
films through June. Check them
