Over the last 18 months, Kanturk RFC have
improved their facilities with the recent
completion of a fully floodlit all-weather playing
surface which was completed with the benefit
of grant funding through the 2017 Sports Capital
Grant Scheme.
KANTURK COMPLETE UPGRADES
As Director of Rugby Mike Murphy explains,
the completion of the new playing surface to
supplement their two existing pitches is most
welcome due to the club’s growing underage
section.
“The project was an extension of the playing
area which was really driven by demand. We
have two pitches at the minute, two playing
pitches, so we were fairly restricted in space,
particularly for the growing underage section.
So we looked to extend the playing and training
facilities. The area of it, it’s about three quarters
the size of a normal pitch.”
Another project which the club undertook
included resurfacing of the access roadway,
car park and pitch side walkway and this was
completed with support through LEADER
grant funding through IRD Duhallow. Finally,
last summer when restrictions were lifted, the
club’s members and volunteers came together
to give the clubhouse a facelift which included
painting and other renovations.
