Perhaps the aforementioned politicalconvictions of Karel E. de Potter may have worked on his sonLodewijk, when in 1813, in the case of the Ghent priests againstNapoleonic bishop Dela Brue, as a defendant, Lodewijk finallystopped writing and recognized the bischop. Most of the refuserswere then banned...!On 15 Harvest 1782, because of superior agricultural merits, byappointment of Courtrai-based Count Joseph of Murray, stepfatherof Count de Thiennes, Karel de Potter was appointed esquire ofRumbeke, under privileges attached to his land property there andchurch ruler. Shortly thereafter, Karel married Maria-Theresia Mulle,prominent business family of the city of Winkel St Elooi; She was thedaughter of the Bailiff of Ter Vichten. During the annexation of our country to France, Karel de Potter, inthe year 6 of the Republic, was appointed City Officer of Rumbeke.He was listed in the city register as 'wool dying craftsman andnegotiator' (profession of his cousin, castle of Ravenhof, Tourhout).65
