Hospital Golf Outing
The Madison Health Foundation’s golf outing returns this year
with a new name and format. The Memorial Golf Classic, formerly
the Bob Powers Classic, will be held on Aug. 5 at the London Country
Club. This new one-day format features two scramble flights
with tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Golfers receive a complimentary
gift, snacks, and boxed lunch.
This event is expected to draw more than 120 golfers and volunteers
and provides sponsorship opportunities for businesses
and organizations serving the Madison County

Safety Expo
The Madison County Safety Expo, hosted by the
Madison County Emergency Management Agency, is
set for 10 a.m. Aug. 28 at the Madison County Fairgrounds
in London. The expo is free and family-friendly.

Book Nook Sales
The Friends of London Public Library are hosting
Book Nook sales from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 7, Sept. 4,
and Oct. 2. The Book Nook is located in the block building
behind the library off of Logan Avenue. The sales
feature books culled from the library’s collection. Also
on July 3, the library will hold a surplus sale featuring
computers and furniture.
Car Wash to benefit Special Olympics
A car wash is scheduled for July 10 from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. at Coughlin Automotive, 255 Lafayette St., London.
The cost is $5 per car. Lunch will be served for donations.
Proceeds benefit Madison County Special Olympics.
Fair Office Hours
The fair office at the Madison County Fairgrounds,
205 Elm St., London, will be open special hours in the
coming weeks:
July 5-8—6-8:30 p.m.
July 9—1-8 p.m.
The office is located in the Coughlin Community
Center and can be reached at (740) 852-1654. The public
can stop in to purchase daily or weekly admission
passes to this year’s fair. Additionally, anyone who
wants to run for election to the fair board can pick up
petitions during these hours.
This year’s fair runs July 10-17.
Summer Lunch Programs
• London Church of the Nazarene, 224 Elm St., is
offering free meals for all children ages 18 and younger—
Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., through July 30.
All meals will be served carryout style, either as drivethrough,
walk-through or bike-through.
• Madison County Vineyard, 106 Olive St., London,
is offering free food for children under the age of 18.
Fresh goods are available for pickup at the church from
10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, through
July 26. For more information or to make a donation,

Alzheimer’s Family Support Group
The Alzheimer’s Family Support Group meets at 6
p.m. the first Thursday of each month at St. John’s
Lutheran Church, 380 Keny Blvd., London. For more

is welcome.
HELP House
Beginning July 7, H.E.L.P. House Community Outreach
will re-open their choice food pantry for in-person
shopping. The food pantry and related services will be
open on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 9
a.m. to noon, and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The drivethrough
pantry pickup option will no longer be offered.

Madison-Plains Golf Outing
The Madison-Plains Football Golf Outing is set for
July 24 at Locust Hills Golf Club, 5575 North River Rd.,
Springfield. Registration is $75 per golfer and includes
a cart and meal. Shotgun start is at 12 p.m. To register,

Madison County Senior Center
The Madison County Senior Citizens Center, 280 W.
High St., London, is now open to the public and offers
the following activities. The cafe is open to all ages,
Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For details, call (740)

Fish Fries
American Legion Post 201 in West Jefferson is offering
a limited-item fish fry on the first and third Fridays
of each month through October. Items include: fish and
fries, $6; fish sandwich, $5; fries only, $1.50; and soda,
$1. Hours are 4-7 p.m. Carryout and dine-in.
Full Moon Bike Rides
The Friends of Madison County Parks & Trails is
hosting free bike rides on nights when the moon is full.
Each ride starts at Phat Daddy’s Pizza, 15 E. First St.,
London. Ride options are 14 miles and 25 miles. Dates
and times are: July 24 at 8:30 p.m., Aug. 22 at 8 p.m.,
Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Mt. Sterling Community Center
The Mount Sterling Community Center is located at
164 E. Main St. Measures of social distancing, 10-person
maximum attendance, and frequent sanitizing and
hand washing are part of the center’s guidelines. For

class size is limited to 10 participants with social distancing,
masks and sanitizing as directed by the Centers
for Disease Control
