When the audience at the Madison
County Fair rodeo was asked to provide
10 volunteers to come into the arena, it
was then they were presented with the
task of wrestling a bull to the ground. All
10 gave it a shot, and some lasted longer
than others, but none as long as Reagan
Gross. Gross, a student (pictured above)
that bull his money’s worth. In the end
with a bit of coaching and encouragement,
Gross took the bull to the ground
and took home first place.
This fall, West Jefferson residents will vote on changes to the
village’s charter, the document that sets the rules by which the village
is governed.
Every five years, the mayor appoints a charter review committee
that is then confirmed by village council. The committee is tasked
with going through the
charter and recommending
changes if they decide any
are necessary.
After 24 meetings over
the past 4.5 months, the
2021 committee finalized
its recommendations on
June 30, and council adopted the recommendations on July 6. The
changes will appear on the Nov. 2 general election ballot. Voters
will decide on the changes as a bundle rather than vote on each
change individually.
The committee includes Karl Frybarger, David George, Jeff
Hockenbery, Susan Krumm, John Lepard, Mark Pelphrey and Herman
Stanley.
“We all worked together really, really well,” said Frybarger, who
has served on the review committee three times and chaired this
year’s group.
“We invited not only the general public to comment, we also invited
every department head in West Jefferson, plus council members
and the mayor. We allowed them to have the floor and voice
any concerns they have with the charter.”
All of the committee’s recommendations stemmed from the feedback
they received from village leaders.
The proposed changes are as follows:
• Missed Council Meetings—The charter permits village council
members to miss up to six regular meetings per calendar year. They
are not paid for those missed meetings.
The committee is proposing that council members could not miss
more than four regular meetings per year but would be paid for up
to four missed meetings.
“Council meets two times per month which is 24 times per year.
We felt it was excessive that they can miss six meetings which
amounts to 25 percent of their job,” Frybarger said.
• Removal of Council Members—The charter requires that any
council member who misses more than six regular meetings in a
calendar year be recommended for removal. There is an exception
for military service.
In addition to reducing the missed-meetings limit to four, the review
committee is recommending the rules include an exception for
serious health conditions. In both cases, the mayor would appoint
someone to temporarily fill the vacancy.
• Council Vacancies—The review committee determined the
charter is unclear when it comes to when an unexpired term for a
council seat should appear on the ballot and, therefore, how long a
person appointed to a vacancy serves.
They recommend an unexpired term, whether for a ward seat or
an at-large seat, appear on the next available general election bal-
Contact tracing questioned
By Linda Dillman
Staff Writer
Parents of Jefferson Local Schools students are
happy with the announcement of a return to more normalized
school operations this fall, but are not pleased
with the potential for contact tracing procedures.
Dozens of parents attended the July 12 Jefferson
Local Schools Board of Education meeting to express
frustration with contract tracing associated with
COVID-19 exposure, the vaccinated versus the unvaccinated,
and mental health problems associated with
children who cannot go to school.
In June, the board approved a plan for the 2021-22
school year, which follows guidelines established by the
Madison County Health Department for COVID-19 mitigation.
According to the health department, as of a June 2
post to their website, people who are fully vaccinated
against COVID-19 are not required to quarantine following
exposure to a confirmed or probable case that
tests positive for COVID-19 as long as they remain
symptom-free during the 14 days following exposure.
For unvaccinated individuals exposed to the virus in
the classroom or on the bus, as long as in-school protocols
are followed and they are not symptomatic, they may
break quarantine and continue to attend school in-person
and participate in sports or extracurricular activities.
However, if they are exposed to COVID-19 outside
the classroom or bus setting, students and staff may not
break or fracture quarantine to attend in-person school
or participate in sports/extracurriculars.
said Elizabeth Kuebler, who also asked how the school
district determines if a student is vaccinated or unvaccinated.
Erica Fortune’s concern was contract tracing and
mandatory quarantine.
“I’m concerned the lifelong implications this will
have on our students,” Fortune told the board. “This
plan is destined to cause a major interruption. Your
plan creates friction between parents and educators.
There is no easy answer.”
Erica Bogner said over half the children in the school
system are at risk of food insecurity and if they are not
in school, they face the potential for going hungry.
“These kids need to be in school,” said Bogner. “(You
are) punishing kids who don’t get the vaccine. It’s about
what’s fair. The burden should be on the parents. If
your kid is sick, keep them home.”
District teacher and parent Brian Fortune said what
people are asking for is to not quarantine kids that are
not sick and felt contact tracing is going to hurt kids.
He noted an example of an entire class that was quarantined
because one child was ill.
“All we’re asking for is for contact tracing to be removed
from the plan,” said Fortune.
Fellow educator J.J. Simmons said there is no consistency
in contact tracing procedures throughout the
state and, when in use, the policy causes students to unnecessarily
miss opportunities.
Board President Melissa Adams said, “My position
is I do not agree with contact tracing and differentiating
between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated.”
See TRACING, page 3
lot, no matter if it’s a year in which that particular seat would normally
be up for election. This way, Frybarger said, the public would
get involved more quickly in filling the vacancy by popular vote.
• Restrictions on mayor hirings and appointments—The charter
does not permit the mayor to hire or appoint anyone who is an immediate
family member of an elected village official, department
head or assistant, or ranking officer of the police department. The
charter lists who is considered an immediate family member.
The review committee is suggesting that aunt, uncle, sister, and
significant other be added to the current list and that step-relative
be removed.
If approved, the new list would include: spouse or significant
other, parent, parent-in-law, aunt or uncle, son, son-in-law, daughter,
daughter-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, brother, brother-in-law,
maternal or paternal grandparents, grandson, first cousin, niece or
nephew.
• Economic Development—The committee recommends the creation
of an economic development and redevelopment department,
along with creation of a job title and job description for the department’s
director.
“West Jefferson is experiencing a ton of growth. We really decided
we needed a person who was dedicated just for that,” Frybarger
said.
The change would allow the public safety director, who currently
assists with some of the economic development duties, to focus more
on infrastructure. It would update the job title and duties of the
current position of building, zoning and planning director. That person
reports to the mayor and public service director. With the recommended
changes, the director of the new department would
report only to the mayor.
• Notice of meeting relocations—Currently, the village must advertise
changes in government meeting locations in a newspaper.
The proposed change would give the village additional options, including
posting such notices to the village website, on social media,
on physical and electronic message boards, and/or on the front door
of the water department.

Large field of candidates seek to fill Stivers’ seat
Aug. 3 primary includes
11 Republicans and two
Democrats seeking to
make it onto the Nov. 2
ballot for 15th District
A primary election will be held Aug. 3 to
select candidates to run for Ohio’s U.S. 15th
Congressional District seat.
The slate of candidates includes 11 Republicans
and two Democrats. The seat became
vacant when former U.S.
Congressman Steve Stivers, a Republican,
resigned on May 16 to serve as president
and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
The primary winners in their respective
parties will face off against each other
in the general election on Nov. 2.
The Republican candidates are: John
Adams, Mike Carey, Eric Clark, Thad Cooperrider,
Ruth Edmonds, Ron Hood, Thomas
Hwang, Stephanie Kunze, Jeff LaRe, Bob
Peterson, and Omar Tarazi.
The Democratic candidates are Greg
Betts and Allison Russo.
Superintendent William Mullett said he
does not want to see healthy kids miss
school and that the board and administrators
need a little time to address the issue
of contact tracing.
Legal options, liability and the need to
inform the county health department in the
event of an exposure are all considerations
the board needs to discuss.
“We have to be responsible if we let kids
come to school,” said Mullett, who felt a decision
could be made in time for the next
board meeting in August. “If a majority
finds it acceptable, it would allow us to
change our plans. We have to equate the
mental health risk with the COVID risk. It’s
not easy. It’s a pretty complicated issue, but
I think we can start the school year without
Former President Donald Trump has endorsed
Carey.
“Stephanie Kunze has spent the past
decade building a foundation of trust in
Central Ohio through her good work in the
General Assembly and previously at the city
of Hilliard,” said Jaffe. “She has a reputation
as an effective legislator who is responsive
to constituents and who isn’t afraid to
roll up her sleeves and get to work on tough
issues. That’s exactly what we need in
Washington.”
Jaffe said keeping the district in Republican
hands is critical. He said Stivers was
often a voice of reason cutting through the
chaos in Washington and helping make sure
that the important business of government
wasn’t forgotten.
“That’s an ideal role for a Central Ohio
member of Congress to play, and Senator
Kunze is well-equipped to play it,” said
Jaffe. “Neither of the Democrats in this race
can say the same. When the Republicans
take back control of the House of Representatives,
the people of the 15th District will
be well served by a conservative rising star
like Stephanie Kunze representing their interests
instead of a Democrat who may very
well be handing their proxy vote over to
Nancy Pelosi.”
When asked what his party thinks are
the keys to winning this district, Jaffe said
that any time a long-serving member of
Congress like Stivers steps down, the
biggest challenge for new candidates is to
introduce themselves to the voters in the
district, which he said gives Kunze an advantage
“Her Senate district covers almost all of
the Franklin County portion of the 15th
Congressional District and Franklin has by
far the largest piece of the 15th by population,”
said Jaffe. “Some candidates will try
to make a big deal about endorsements and
wedge issue positions over the course of this
campaign, but what voters really want is
someone with the will to fight for them in
Washington and the experience to do so effectively.
Stephanie Kunze has the will and
the experience and voters know she does.”
quarantining kids.”
Mullett said if a person is exhibiting
symptoms of an illness they should stay
home and do what is best for the children
and the community. He also expressed concern
with the inconsistency of contact tracing
from county to county and expects the
school district to resolve the issue in a
timely manner.
Teachers’ contract
Teachers and the board recently agreed
on a three-year contact with the West Jefferson
Teachers Association.
“I just learned they ratified the agreement,”
said Mullett. “I think the sessions
went very smoothly. We were able to do it
without an attorney, so we saved a little
money.”
The race has attracted a large slate of Republicans
seeking the position.
“It’s no secret that the 15th District has
been solidly Republican since Steve Stivers
flipped it in 2010,” said Jaffe, who noted
(former) President Donald Trump carried
the district by about 15 points in both 2016
and 2020. “Any Democratic candidate is
going to have a hard time in a district like
that and it’s clear from the breadth of their
field this year that they know it. The last
time there was an open Congressional seat
in Central Ohio a few years ago there were
about a dozen Democratic candidates, this
time there are two. There are so many Republican
candidates running because they
believe a Republican is likely to win the
seat.”
Jaffe said turnout in an off-year special
election is unpredictable and the district
will be completely redrawn after this year.
“No one knows what the new district will
look like,” said Jaffe. “It’s important for Republicans
to take a long-term view and
make sure our candidate is someone who
can hold the district for our party in the
likely event that redistricting makes it more
competitive than it is right now.”
Democrats
According to Alex Baker, executive director
of the Franklin County Democratic
Party, Russo is the endorsed candidate by
the Franklin County Democratic Party.
“The FCDP Executive Committee voted
overwhelmingly to endorse State Representative
Russo because of her proven track
record as a candidate, as a legislator, and as
a Democrat,” said Baker. “She is an incredible
advocate fighting for Ohioans in the
Statehouse and we are looking forward to
the experience, dedication, and passion she
will bring to Congress. She is an exceptionally
qualified candidate with a doctoral degree
in health policy, a master’s degree in
public health epidemiology, and over 20
years of experience advising leaders and
policymakers on how to better provide quality,
affordable healthcare to seniors, women,
and veterans. As a mother and the wife of a
combat veteran, she has been fighting for
District Treasurer Mark Ingles said the
contract includes a 2.75 percent increase for
each of the first two years and then a 2 percent
increase in the third year. Health cost
shares for individuals and family plans remain
the same as last year during the first
year of the new contract and then go up $15
for an individual and $35 for a family for the
second and third year. Prescription plan
shares increase $5 for individuals and $10
for families. Dental and vision remain the
same with the district picking up the cost
for both plans.
Board member David Harper called the
negotiations a “great experience to go
through without all of the negative. This
was one of the best times I’ve had in building
relations and not discouraging others.”
Ohio’s military families and for all Ohioans’
access to healthcare from our Statehouse for
the last three years and she is prepared to
continue this fight at the federal level.”
While this district leans Republican,
Baker noted Democrat U.S. Senator Sherrod
Brown won the district in his 2018 Senate
race and Democrat Justice Jennifer
Brunner won this district in her 2020 Ohio
Supreme Court race.
“With the resignation of long-term incumbent
Congressman Stivers and a
crowded Republican primary, Representative
Russo will have the opportunity to really
talk to voters and get her message out,
putting her in a very strong position to flip
this seat.”
Baker said the key to the Democrats for
winning this district is organizing and communicating
with as many voters as possible
about the issues facing the district and the
experience and plans that Russo has to support
it.
“The short time frame and pushing for
high voter turnout will be added challenges,
but Representative Russo has an incredible
campaign team behind her with a plan to be
on the ground in as much of the district as
possible between now and Nov. 2,” said
Baker.
‘Fear Street’ proves to be fun throwback slasher
In 2015, hallowed ground
shook as xennials and millennials
learned of plans to develop
films based on R.L. Stine’s
“Fear Street” books.
“Will they adapt the cheerleader series first?” they
wondered. “Or will they go to the start of the first horror,
then build the universe from there?”
It didn’t matter so much, they collectively agreed, as
long as they could finally see this strange world brought
to life, thanks to the partnership between Chernin Entertainment
and 20th Century Fox.
In the years that followed, a team of writers and directors
making waves in the independent horror genre
were brought on board, and a cast of promising teen actors
and veteran character actors inked deals to animate
(or reanimate, in many cases) characters of yore.
As the development progressed, news started to
trickle out that the writing team (Phil Graziadei, Leigh
Janiak, and Kyle Killen) would not be doing straight
adaptations of Stine’s popular trilogies. Instead, they
would create a new world loosely based on the “Fear
Street” series that would serve as a tribute to the collection
and the slasher films of the era.
Though the shaking lessened, interest was still high.
Then, in 2020, just as the first of the three movies
was slated for release, the pandemic shuttered movie
theaters and put planned distributions on hold. Not
wanting to see their trilogy of terror shelved for the foreseeable
future, Chernin Entertainment pulled its distribution
and inked a deal with Netflix.
Several weeks ago, Netflix started to unveil snippets
of the “Fear Street” movies. The teasers began to generate
buzz. Not only did these films—which take place
during three specific years—look decent, they also were
going to be released over the span of three weeks in
July. A strange move perhaps, especially coming from
a binge-friendly service, but one that made sense given
their commitment to releasing a new film each week for
2021.
On July 9, “Fear Street Part I: 1994” made its debut
on the streaming platform. While it is a decent film true
as a setup for the rest of the
trilogy.
“Fear Street Part I: 1994”
often comes across as an overly
long pilot in a limited television
series rather than the first installment
of an epic thriller
with a trail of terror that spans
centuries. It tries to establish
the current timeframe while harkening back to others.
It makes for a frustrating view, but one with good intentions.
It begins where all of the action took place during
this time—at a mall. Teenaged Heather (Maya Hawke)
is finishing her shift at B. Dalton bookstore when she
begins to experience odd events. First, she hears scuttling
noises, then horror books begin to fly off the
shelves. Suitably creeped, she seeks safety at another
store where her friend works but finds a pool of blood.
She later meets her demise at the hands of a figure
wearing the face of a recently deceased friend.
In any other town, this murder would have received
plenty of attention from the media, police, and school
where Heather was a student. But this is Shadyside,
Ohio, the “Murder Capital of the United States.” The
less that is said or written about this crime, the better.
Just because the town would rather not dwell on the
trauma doesn’t mean they don’t acknowledge it. They
do schedule a candlelight vigil before an all-important
football game against their rivals at Sunnyvale, but
that brings out the fisticuffs.
After the altercation, some Sunnyvale students race
after the bus full of Shadyside athletes and band members.
Fed up with their threatening behavior, Deena
(Kiana Madeira) opens the emergency door to toss a
cooler of water at them, but this causes their vehicle to
crash into the woods. Feeling contrite—mostly because
her ex-girlfriend, Sam (Olivia Welch), was a passenger—
Though no one was harmed during this incident, the teens manage
to unearth the burial site of Sarah Fier, a town witch who is
said to have laid a curse on Shadyside before she was burned at the
stake in 1666.
Shortly after the incident, reanimated killers from the town’s
past begin to haunt Deena, Sam, and their friends, Kate (Julia Rehwald)
and Simon (Fred Hechinger). Though several others are on
the menu as well (basically anyone who gets in the way), the spirits
seem to be particularly angry with with this little group.
With no idea how to stop the spirits, the teens turn to Deena’s
outcast brother, Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr.) who is well versed in
Shadyside’s murderous past. With centuries worth of news clippings
on the town terrors at their disposal, they have to figure out
how they can stop the curse and the cycle of violence that has been
plaguing the town.
Due to the structure of trilogy series, the first installment often
feels like the weakest link, so it is hard to fully judge “Fear Street
Part I: 1994” until its companion films are seen. (“Part II: 1978
dropped on July 16, while “Part III: 1666” drops on July 23). But it
could have been more creative with how it set up the trilogy, rather
than rely on the method of low stakes, back-end action and slowroll
development.
Gripes aside, “Fear Street Part I: 1994” is a fun throwback
slasher that is entertaining enough to watch with its 90s style,
slang, and music. Though some viewers will likely be torn as to
whether they want to continue with this series, I think I’m going to
stick with it until the end.
Always there, doing the
hard work to put on a fair
By Dedra Cordle
Staff Writer
Darrell Champer has always loved attending
the opening ceremonies at the
Madison County Fair.
Though short in duration and minimal in
pageantry, what made the event so enjoyable
to him was seeing the look of surprised
delight on the faces of the individuals who
were chosen to be recognized by the senior
fair board for their commitment to the operations
at the beloved fair.
“These were the people who were always
working behind the scenes,” he said. “They
were the people who were putting in hundreds
of volunteer hours to get this fair up
and running not just for the week, but for
all of the weeks that came before it.
“I always wanted to be around to see
them being honored because their efforts
meant the world to me and to so many others
who participate in and enjoy this junior
fair.”
He said he never disagreed with those
who were chosen for the honor, even when
he served on the Madison County Agricultural
Society’s board of directors. But one of
the two individuals selected to be recognized
at the 2021 Madison County Fair brought
forth a mixed bag of feelings for the resident
of Mt. Sterling.
The announcement for the award was
nearing and Champer, the past president of
the Ag Society, stood where he normally
does — off to the side but in view of the
crowd so he could catch a glimpse of the individuals
selected.
While extolling the virtues of this year’s
honorees, senior fair board secretary Judy
Gallimore turned to Champer and asked
him to come forward. She praised him for
his “tireless efforts” in organizing a fair in
the middle of a pandemic last year and for
his long-standing commitment to preserving
the mission of the fair and making it
“accessible for generations to come.”
She announced that not only was he
being recognized by the senior fair board,
but he was also being recognized by the
state for having been selected as a 2021
Friend of the Fair by the Ohio Fair Managers
Association.
Champer, who later said he was too surprised
to smile at the time, said that he was
appreciative of the recognition but questioned
whether he was the right person to
be honored.
“I’m not one who likes recognition or
awards,” he said. “I don’t receive those well.
“It’s definitely appreciated but there are
a lot of people who put in a lot of hard work
who could have been selected instead.”
Gallimore begged to differ.
Gallimore said ever since she met Champer
in the fourth grade, she has always
known him as someone who spoke of the importance
of the fair.
“It just meant so much to him,” she said.
Not only did he spend much of his childhood
participating in 4-H clubs and showing
swine, but he also instilled those values in
his family and continued with its promotion
when he put his hat in the ring to become a
member of the Ag Society’s board of directors
in 2014.
She said he has always been an inspirational
figure, but his efforts last year to
bring forth a partial junior fair during the
pandemic inspired her to nominate him for
state recognition.
“He was always on the phone talking to
health advisors and drafting protocols for
how our fair could be safely run,” Gallimore
said. “He was doing this for weeks and
months on end, and the rules were always
changing so he could always be re-writing
those drafts.”
Eventually, those safety plans were accepted
and the 2020 fair was able to operate.
“We probably wouldn’t have been able to
have a fair at all last year if it wasn’t for
Darrell,” said Gallimore.
She said that was why it was so important
for the senior fair board to recognize
him this year.
“He’s always been instrumental to the
fair,” she said, adding that his presence on
the sale committee helped bring a new
arena and community center to the fairgrounds,
“and that is why he is so deserving
of this award.”
While Champer may have disagreed
with his selection, he did agree with senior
fair board’s selection of Arlene Duffey as the
second honoree.
Unlike Champer, Duffey had little to no
experience in a 4-H club while growing up
in London, but nevertheless became its face
for those who were involved — or at least had
an interest in it.
In 1984, Duffey applied for an open position
as an office associate at the Madison
County OSU Extension despite knowing little
about extension programming and services.
After being selected for the position,
she quickly became acquainted with the
process and helped thousands of 4-H participants,
parents, advisors and volunteers
throughout her career.
Gallimore called Duffey “the office rock”
and praised her for her willingness to come
to the aid of others.
“She is always willing to help,” she said.
“If you had an issue, a question, or needed
to know something about 4-H, she was the
one you went to.”
Duffey, who retired on March 31, said
she was humbled by the recognition.
“I was not expecting this at all,” she said.
“I thought maybe my invitation (to attend
the opening ceremonies) was going to turn
into a retirement celebration so this was a
complete surprise — a really pleasant surprise.”
awards of recognition to Darrell Champer (middle) and Arlene Duffey (right) for their
long-standing commitment to the Madison County Fair during the fair’s opening ceremonies
on July 10. In addition to receiving recognition from the senior fair board, Duffey
received a day (July 10) named in her honor while Champer was celebrated for his selection
as the 2021 Friend of the Fair by the Ohio Fair Managers Association.
Olivia Rinesmith, the 2019 Madison County Junior Fair queen (left) and Frances Foos,
a 4-H educator with the Madison County OSU Extension Office, presented Duffey with a
quilt made by members of the county’s 4-H clubs.
Though Champer and Duffey may believe
they are undeserving of the recognition,
Gallimore said they represent
everything the board looks for in choosing a
recipient who embodies a dedication and
commitment to the fair.
“I think it is very important we continue
to honor these behind-the-scenes people,
these unsung heroes,” said Gallimore.
“There is a lot of work that goes into putting
on this fair each year and we have to recognize
those people like Darrell and Arlene
who are always there, doing the work in the
background.”

Enjoy live theatre at Plays in the Park
By Kristy Zurbrick
Madison Editor
Now in its third year, the PC Trinity
Theatre Co. has officially joined hands with
the village of Plain City to present Plays in
the Park. “My Legacy Robe,” the first of two
productions planned for this summer, is set
for July 23-24. Shows are at 7 p.m. at Pastime
Park. Admission is free.
Led by three 2018 Jonathan Alder High
School graduates, the PC Trinity Theatre
Co. strives to provide opportunities for
young actors and entertainment for the
community.
Danny Rodriguez Hijo is the project
leader, providing acting direction and handling
advertising and communication.
Grayson Abend, the music director, writes
music and conducts the orchestra when live
music is incorporated into a show. He also
helps with acting direction. Ryan Gutierrez
heads up set conception and construction
and all things technical.
“We’ve been friends since junior high and
high school and were in productions together,”
Rodriguez Hijo said. “After high
school, we wanted a way to work together
and provide the arts and experiences we
have fond remembrances of to the community.”
From their first play in 2019 to an original
parody musical last year to this year’s
play and variety show offerings, the trio has
put middle school, high school, and young
adult actors in the spotlight. The majority
of the participants come from Plain City.
Some have been members of the Jonathan
Alder Junior High drama club, a program
Rodriguez Hijo has headed up since 2014.
Some have performed in high school productions.
A handful are trying theater for the
first time.
The all-female cast of “My Legacy Robe”
features seven students in grades 5-8: Dani
Berger, Ella Harrell, Ally Oross, Avery
Oross, Leah Polsinelli, and Ella Polston.
Written by Tim Kelly and performed
since the 1950s, the play—a short one at 30
minutes long—is set backstage at a show
that’s about to premier on Broadway. Each
of the actresses is coping with the premier
in her own way. Some are successful veterans,
some aren’t, and some are brand new
to the experience.
“It’s about how they are co-existing and
how they are bringing each other up to take
on Broadway,” Rodriguez Hijo said.
Since auditions in mid-May, the cast has
been rehearsing twice a week at the park.
Rodriguez Hijo is happy with the progress.
“The material came more naturally to
them than I first expected. It’s been very
good to see how they have developed with
it,” he said.
Danny Rodriguez Hijo (center), project leader for the PC Trinity Theatre Co., works
with Leah Polsinelli and Dani Berger on a scene from “My Legacy Robe.” The show
is set for 7 p.m. July 23-24 at Pastime Park in Plain City.
Next up is the “COVID Cabaret,” a variety
show of sorts scheduled for 7 p.m. July
30-31, featuring middle school- and high
school-aged actors. Short plays and vocal
music performances are planned.
Rodriguez Hijo has written three original
plays for the show—“Frame of Mind” about
a man learning to cope with losing loved
ones; “Dysphoria” about a soul trying to
take care of themselves; and “Sweet Paralysis”
about two demons failing at making a
nightmare for a child.
Abend wrote and composed a vocal duet,
“Roads,” which Ellyse Tillyer and Millia
Runkle will perform. Abend will provide accompaniment.
Additionally, Brea West will
play guitar and sing “Fever” by Elvis Presley.
Others performing in “COVID Caberet”
are Jacob Cameron, Annalise Caouette, Ava
Riddlebaugh, Olivia Riddlebaugh, and
Vanora Vowell.
xLegal Notices
NOTICE ONLINE SHERIFF SALES
Beginning with our August 2021 sales, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office
will conduct the sales of all real estate subject to foreclosure on the “Official
Public Sheriff’s Sale Website” which is operated by Realauction based on a
contract with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services. The process
and procedures under which these sales will be completed are detailed at
the Realauction website https://madison.sheriffsaleauction.ohio.gov All
prospective bidders should familiarize themselves with this new process.
In general, the following key points are noted:
1) All person(s) who want to bid on a property offered by the Madison
County Sheriff’s Office must register with Realauction. Registration will
include completion of the Purchaser Information Form.
2) Properties will be open for bid, at least seven days immediately prior to
the date of sale. This is generally known as a proxy bid.
3) Each Friday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, the online auction will begin.
Auction will be conducted for each individual property; however only
one property will be sold at a time. After a property is sold the next
scheduled property sale will begin.
4) To be a qualified participant, bidders must submit a deposit based on
the total deposit requirement ($2,000 / $5000 / $10,000 set by law) for
all properties on which the bidder wishes to bid by the predefined dead
lines. The only acceptable deposit types are bank wire transfer or ACH,
no cash deposits will be accepted. All Wire Deposits must be received
by 5 p.m. EST two (2) business days before the auction sale date. All
ACH Deposits must be initiated by 4 p.m. EST five (5) business days
before the auction sale date. It is the responsibility of the bidder to plan
ahead and allow enough time for their bidding deposits to be received
and processed within the timeframes described above.
5) Tax Lien Sales will be included in the online sales through Realauction.
Important Information
Realauction will conduct webinar training. Classes will be held via the
Internet on a regular schedule. These webinar classes generally last 90
