For 30 years the <strong>Caladium</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> has<br />
been as dependable as a summer afternoon<br />
shower in Florida. It all started<br />
when local caladium growers Carolyn<br />
Phypers and Dot<br />
Bates decided to<br />
raise awareness<br />
of their colorful<br />
plants and bulbs<br />
and celebrated a<br />
mini-festival in<br />
the parking lot of<br />
Happiness Farms<br />
on County Road 621.<br />

Lake Placid the “<strong>Caladium</strong> Capital of the<br />
World” and it takes a lot of volunteers<br />
to put on the annual <strong>Caladium</strong> <strong>Festival</strong>.<br />
For 29 years, people from all over the<br />
state have embarked on Lake Placid to<br />
attend the festival and had it not been<br />
for the pandemic’s lingering effect, last<br />
year would have been no different. Here<br />
are a few photos from our archives,<br />
dedicated to the hardworking caladium<br />
farmers and the dedicated volunteers<br />
who bring this grand event to downtown<br />
Lake Placid each year. Enjoy as<br />

a pontoon from Woohoo. Jim showed<br />
up on time, put the pontoon on the water<br />
and we had a blast. When it was time to<br />
