North Parramatta: Lucky escape
after car crashes into bus stop
Passengers waiting for a bus in North
Parramatta had a lucky escape last week
after a red Mustang lost control, crashing
into the bus stop.
On Wednesday, July 21 the Mustang
was turning a corner at the Parramatta
Correctional Centre when the driver lost
control and clipped a telegraph pole,
jumped the embankment and crashed
into the bus stop.
Fire and Rescue NSW Stations 057
Wentworthville and 027 Parramatta
attended the scene to assist with the
rescue and road clearing.
NSW Ambulance also attended and
all persons in the car and bus stop were
assessed and released.
Police are investigating the incident.
Drivers are reminded to pay full attention
at all times; a distracted driver is a
dangerous driver, not just to yourself but
to others around you.

Police are seeking public assistance
to help locate a Wentworth Point man
wanted on an outstanding warrant.
30-year-old Stephen Stanley is wanted
by virtue of an outstanding arrest
warrant in relation to firearm, assault
and stolen motor vehicle offences.
He is described as being of Caucasian
appearance, about 175 centimetres tall,
of medium build, with brown hair and
blue eyes. He is known to frequent the
Burwood area.

Parramatta: Woman scammed
after fake visa call
Police are warning residents to stay
vigilant of scammers pretending to work
for the Australian High Commission in
India.
About 10.14pm on Tuesday, July 13, a
Parramatta resident received several
phone calls to her mobile phone which
displayed Australian High Commission
India. After ignoring the calls several
times, she searched the number for the
Australian High Commission in India,
which was the same number that had
been calling her phone.
The next time the number rang she
answered, where she was advised by
a male that she had been identified as
supplying incorrect information on her
visa renewal and that she could face up
to seven years imprisonment if she did
not transfer the large amount of money
required to have it corrected.
Fearful, the resident decided to transfer
the money which was completed the
same day.
The following day the resident realised
she had been scammed but was unable
to cancel the transfer as the money
had already been received from what
appears to be overseas.
Police would like to remind the public
that scammers can ‘spoof’ numbers to

Parramatta: Man with garden hose
helps save property
The courageous efforts of a citizen
with a garden hose saved the majority
of a suburban home from a blaze in
Parramatta last week.
On Wednesday, July 21 Fire and Rescue
NSW Station 027 Parramatta attended an
address at Brickfield Street, Parramatta
after reports of a house fire.
A valiant effort by a passerby with a
garden hose kept the fire contained to
the kitchen area of the house.
The smoke was significant throughout
the entire house but the damage from
the fire itself was contained to just the
one room.
It is believed some unattended or
unsupervised cooking had gotten away
and flames impacted on the range hood,
getting into the wall and destroying the
room.
An attempt to smother the flames with
regular blankets was unsuccessful and
the community is reminded that only
fire blankets should be used for this
purpose.
It is recommended all kitchens are
equipped with a fire blanket for this
purpose. A working smoke alarm alerted
neighbours.

Dharug Strategic Management Group
Director Richard Howitt said the project
was a sustainable way to support Aboriginal
cultural practices into the future.

acknowledge and respect Dharug
people and to work with them to produce
a sustainable future which is connected
to that amazing deep past,” Mr
Howitt said.
