MY PRIDE AND JOY
Bitten by the bike bug
Jimmy’s eyes light up and his voice
becomes animated as he talks about his
motorcycle collection. From a young age,
he dreamed of owning a Harley-Davidson.
However, it took until his thirties before he
bought that first bike. It was a new 1200cc
Harley-Davidson Sportster. From that day
forward, Jimmy’s had the bike bug, and
his collection of motorcycles has grown.
He now has an assortment of six Victory
motorcycles and one Indian motorcycle.
All are immaculately groomed, stored with
care beneath protective wraps under the
ever-watchful eye of their proud owner.
Loving the brand and story, Jimmy
started collecting Victorys for their
appearances and easy maintenance.
Victorys are well built and provide a
smooth ride with Jimmy enthusing,
“Everything about Victory rates ‘10 out
of 10’, and I would pick a Victory over a
Harley anytime. So you can say I am a
victory convert.”
Polaris produced Victorys from 1998
until 2017, intending to compete against
Harley-Davidson. However, as they are
no longer in production, Jimmy’s hoping
his investment may be worth something
but states, “I’m quite happy just looking
at them. It’s a private collection for my
enjoyment, and I don’t show them.”
Choosing a favourite bike isn’t easy
for Jimmy, but he usually rides his 2007
Hammer S Sport due to the comfort and
how it handles around town and on longer
rides. He also has a Victory Magnum for
longer journeys for the ultimate comfort
with lots of power and “all the bells and
whistles”, including heated handgrips,
Bluetooth and a high-performance sound
system. With a grin, Jimmy declares, “It’s a
car on two wheels with freedom.”
Jimmy’s collection isn’t complete
without one particular motorcycle. His
most collectible bike is a 2008 Victory
Jackpot Limited Edition designed by Cory
Ness with the edition number and his
signature imprinted. Cory is the son of the
legendary Arlen Ness, known in the bike
world as the “king of customised bikes”.
Jimmy only knows of two 2008 Cory Ness
Jackpots in New Zealand. With a unique
paint job and specialised components, it is
a real eye-catcher in iridescent purple and
orange.
After seeing the joy this collection of
motorcycles brings to Jimmy, you can
only imagine this won’t be the end of this
Rolleston resident’s acquisitions.
