Style Magazine - October - El Dorado County Foothills - 2021

No matter what type of good or service you're seeking (preschool, plumber, personal trainer, or a solid slice of pizza…), you’ve opened the right reading material. This issue, our biggest of the year, features the 2021 Readers’ Choice Award winners—the best our region has to offer in health, wellness, food, drink, home goods, arts, culture, shopping, and more. Turn to page 35 to find out if your favorite people and places made the list and use it as a pre-screened, reliable resource the next time you’re seeking a top doctor or memorable meal out. Besides the “Best of 2021,” we also delve deep into the spooky but oh-so scrumptious season of ghosts, goblins, and gourds in The 10 Spot (“Celebrate Halloween”; page 16), Editor’s Picks (“12 Autumn Essentials”; page 42), and Taste (“Must-Try Fall Foods”; page 62); introduce you to 5 local breast cancer organizations in “Fight Like a Girl” (page 20); and talk about the importance of home staging when it comes to selling your home in “Seal the Deal” (page 48).

Earlier this week, one month past the
projected completion date (is the
road to remodeling ever entirely
smooth?), my family moved back to
our humble abode. When we left in
late April, our house—built in 1951
and standing at 950 square feet—
was a lot like me in junior high school: small and
slightly awkward but, according to my parents, full
of potential. Luckily, the bones were there, and a large
lot allowed for an addition off the back.
Though still holding tight to its original charm,
we now have a main bedroom and bathroom; and
a more open, updated kitchen; with fresh lighting,
landscaping, and professional design touches
throughout. Was bunking up in my childhood bedroom for four months worth it? Heck
yes. My bank account might be bleak, but we have a larger, more inviting house that’ll be
livable for the long term.
Though it’s tempting to want to do things on your own, both big and small—be it
highlighting hair, losing weight, or baking a birthday cake—our renovation was a prime
example why paying professionals often pays off. You might think you're not saving
money, but you’ll save yourself a lot of stress and end up with quality you can see and, in
some cases, taste.
No matter what type of good or service you're seeking (preschool, plumber, personal
trainer, or a solid slice of pizza…), you’ve opened the right reading material. This issue, our
biggest of the year, features the 2021 Readers’ Choice Award winners—the best our region
made the list and use it as a pre-screened, reliable resource
the next time you’re seeking a top doctor or memorable
through meal out.
Besides the “Best of 2021,” we also delve deep into the
spooky but oh-so scrumptious season of ghosts, goblins,
Editor’s Picks (“12 Autumn Essentials”; page 42), and Taste
(“Must-Try Fall Foods”; page 62); introduce you to 5 local
in the wild… breast cancer organizations in “Fight Like a Girl” (page 20);
You do
and talk about the importance of home staging when it
comes to selling your home in “Seal the Deal” (page 48).
whatever
Speaking of staging secrets, if you’re interested in seeing
it takes to
how local design duo Kele and Christina of Colossus Mfg.
made my family’s house reveal-ready, tune into “Renovation
survive.” Remix” on HGTV, which is scheduled to air early next year.
Cheers!
