about “Sustainable
Fashion” to our
readers?
e don’t think sustainable fashion has only one
correct. The most fundamental way to make
fashion and even life sustainable is to
consume less. Besides or nonetheless;
preferring products produced with ecofriendly
materials, any action extends the life of bought
products, repairing products which lost their
function, giving new functions if they cannot be
repaired by upcycling, buying secondhand
products, etc.- if we can do even one of these,
we will have reduced the harm we’ve done to
nature and animals. Zero-waste expert chef
Anne-Marie Bonneau has a very meaningful
saying about zero waste that can now be
considered a cliché: “We don't need a handful
of people doing zero waste perfectly. We
need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
The same notion goes for sustainable fashion.
We can buy only products that have ecofriendly
fabric, we can buy secondhand
clothes, or we might be just making
upcycling. Each of these is a contribution to
sustainable fashion. In the horrible capitalist
order we’re in, we must know every action
done without falling into the trap of
greenwashing harms nature and the living
less. When the term “sustainable fashion”
goes out from being a marketing tool and
becomes the default value of the sector, we
will have had an achievement.
