RELIGIOUS STUDIES<br />
A LEVEL<br />
A level Religious Studies provides a coherent and thought-provoking programme of study. Students develop their understanding<br />
and appreci<strong>at</strong>ion of religious beliefs and teachings, as well as the disciplines of ethics and the philosophy of religion.<br />
<strong>The</strong> course is made up of three components which you will be examined on.<br />
Component 01: Philosophy of religion.<br />
Students study philosophical language and thought, and issues and questions raised by belief.<br />
Component 02: Religion and ethics.<br />
Students explore key concepts and the works of influential thinkers, ethical theories and their applic<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
Component 03: Developments in religious thought.<br />
You will study one religion system<strong>at</strong>ically. This year student’s will study Christianity.<br />

Equipment:<br />
Textbooks, iPad, A4 notebook and folders to store your<br />
classwork.<br />
Skills:<br />
You will have a good level of written English, good<br />
communic<strong>at</strong>ion skills, and be analytical, disciplined and<br />
p<strong>at</strong>ient.<br />
Assessment:<br />
This is a linear course with all exams <strong>at</strong> the end of the course.<br />
This will be in the form of 3 written papers, each lasting 2hrs.<br />
Each paper covers one of the three components mentioned<br />
above.<br />
Future Prospects:<br />
A level Religious Studies is a facilit<strong>at</strong>ing subject which<br />
provides a sound basis for entry into higher educ<strong>at</strong>ion, it will<br />
give a good grounding for careers working with people, such<br />
as teacher, police officer, nursery nurse, community worker,<br />
doctor and other careers in the health service.<br />
Why Study Religious Studies?<br />
Religious studies addresses fundamental questions through<br />
a range of religious traditions and philosophical standpoints.<br />
Encompassing the history, practice and thought of the major<br />
world religions, this course develops your understanding<br />
of the significance of religion and its cultural contexts.<br />
Worldwide, six out of seven people describe themselves as<br />
religious, with religious beliefs driving social and political<br />
change globally. As a gradu<strong>at</strong>e of religious studies, you will<br />
be well equipped to play an important part in this world,<br />
valued for your intercultural literacy, critical thinking, research<br />
skills and understanding of the depth and nuance of human<br />
