SPORT<br />
BTEC EXTENDED CERTIFICATE<br />
<strong>The</strong> content of this qualific<strong>at</strong>ion has been developed in consult<strong>at</strong>ion with academics to ensure th<strong>at</strong> it supports progression<br />
to higher educ<strong>at</strong>ion. Employers and professional bodies have also been involved and consulted to confirm th<strong>at</strong> the content is<br />
appropri<strong>at</strong>e and consistent with current practice for students who may choose to enter employment directly in the sport sector.<br />
You will study three mand<strong>at</strong>ory units:<br />
• Unit 1: An<strong>at</strong>omy and Physiology<br />
• Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being<br />
• Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry<br />
You will also study one Optional Unit<br />
• Practical Sports Performance<br />
Course Requirements: N/A<br />
Equipment:<br />
You will require practical kit to undertake the practical sports<br />
performance unit. You will also be required to record your<br />
performance which will be done mostly in school; however<br />
you may be required sometimes to record footage outside<br />
of school.<br />
Future Prospects:<br />
BTEC Sport is a subject th<strong>at</strong> will provide fantastic opportunities<br />
for entry into higher educ<strong>at</strong>ion. It develops a p<strong>at</strong>hway into<br />
‘traditional’ careers which involve sport including Teaching,<br />
Physiotherapy, Coaching & Fitness Training, Psychology,<br />
Sports Science, Police, Armed Forces, Sports Instructors.<br />
Skills:<br />
To be a successful student in BTEC Sport you will be<br />
continually developing your practical performance in your<br />
chosen sport outside of school through specific training<br />
sessions and practical performance. You will also work on<br />
the second sport required for the practical performance<br />
unit which requires hard work, resilience, and motiv<strong>at</strong>ion to<br />
improve. In the classroom, you will be able to link theoretical<br />
content to practical examples and elite sport and apply your<br />
knowledge within a sporting context.<br />
Assessment:<br />
You will complete 4 units as outlined above.<br />
2 units are externally assessed and will be undertaken in<br />
exam conditions.<br />
2 units are coursework-based units and will be internally<br />
assessed by your teachers.<br />
66.6% of your overall grade will come from the externally<br />
assessed units.<br />
33.3% of the overall grade will come from Internally assessed<br />
Units.<br />
