Make a splashback<br />

statement<br />

The kitchen is often the heart of the home, so while you<br />

want it to be functional, it can also reflect your taste and style.<br />

Splashbacks are intended to protect a wall or surface behind<br />

the cooking area from those accidental cooking splashes and<br />

splatters, but they don’t have to be boring and plain. Instead,<br />

splashbacks allow you to make a statement by choosing bold<br />

colours, patterns or textures.<br />

Add flair to your kitchen<br />

Madison, from Kitchen Studio Christchurch South, suggests,<br />

“Splashbacks are a fun area to add a bit of flair to your kitchen<br />

without having to do too much. For example, you might have a<br />

simple look in the kitchen that doesn’t quickly go out of style, and<br />

you can transform the area by having a statement splashback.”<br />

A splashback can lighten and brighten your kitchen space with<br />

colour and creativity. You can achieve this statement by choosing<br />

a funky colour or patterned tile. However, trends and tastes<br />

change over time. So replacing a splashback that you no longer<br />

like is a quick fix. Apart from being more sustainable, it is easier<br />

to change a splashback than the whole kitchen.<br />

Kit kat-shaped tiles on trend<br />

One common approach is to use ceramic<br />

or porcelain tile splashbacks as the tiles<br />

provide texture and depth while being<br />

affordable, low maintenance and durable.<br />

A fashionable choice this year has been the<br />

small and slim rectangular, aptly named<br />

Kit kat-shaped tiles. While the popular<br />

herringbone tile pattern and the subway<br />

tiles are still in demand, there is a trend<br />

toward earthy and organic tones. Madison<br />

advises that antique patterns or colours are<br />

current trends, while encaustic (Moroccan<br />

or Spanish inspired) tiles reflect a traditional<br />

style and statement.<br />

Glass makes a statement<br />

Meanwhile, seamless glass splashbacks<br />

continue to be an easy-to-clean, low maintenance option with a<br />

fantastic selection of colours available to suit everyone. However,<br />

custom-made glass splashbacks are on-trend, with graphics<br />

adding a modern and elegant look to any kitchen. Madison says<br />

some clients are using photographs or artwork behind glass for<br />

that unique look, while some opt for using wallpaper as a more<br />

affordable alternative.<br />

Splashbacks can make a statement and easily add style and<br />

flair to your new or existing kitchen, with numerous options and<br />

colours available.<br />
