(Angelica, Orlando, Medoro, Zoroastro & Dorinda)
Ah, deign to live!
What do my eyes behold?
Ye gods! Angelica, dost thou yet live?
I do indeed, and he is also living
whose love so much offends you; but my fate –
Give me my death, my Lord
I ask not life
if I must lose her, who alone can charm me.
Orlando, jealous for thy future glory
I, from thy fury and impending death
have saved Angelica and her Medoro,
and for them both
thy favour I implore.
My humble prayer I add,
and though I lose my dear Medoro,
yet my heart is noble.
No more, no more, be now attentive all
to what shall prove Orlando’s brightest glory.
(At this instant the statue of Mars rises in the
middle of the temple, with a fire kindled on the
altar)
He quelled enchantments and in combat
conquered, and often laid the fiercest monsters
low; now he’s victorious over himself, and Love –
Angelica, be joined to thy Medoro
Who can ever celebrate thy matchless praise?
(To Angelica and Medoro)
My heart now triumphs over each care,
and this soft dawn that shines so fair,
will now a beamy prelude prove
to your brighter day of love.
My heart now triumphs over each care,
and constancy and peace shall share
a fairer series than before
of sweet succeeding joys in store.
I remember now no more
the former woes I did deplore,
but to my home invite you now to prove
the joys of such a festival of love.
Since every breast has gained repose,
and now with varied transports glows,
let each the praise alone impart
of love and glory, from the heart.
