Mapperley & District u3a is one of a UK-wide<br />
collection of locally-run interest groups that<br />
provide opportunities for those no longer in fulltime<br />
work to come together to learn, live and laugh<br />
whilst exploring new ideas, skills and interests.<br />
Keeping active and social is absolutely critical to a<br />
happy and healthy life.<br />
Every u3a has a variety of interest groups. Some of<br />
these are study groups such as learning a language.<br />
Other popular topics include family history, local<br />
history, various aspects of literature, music, film and<br />
theatre to name but a few. Popular creative groups<br />
include writing, photography and crafts. Gardening<br />
and walking are firm favourites. You can even start<br />
your own group.<br />
In addition to monthly gatherings with a speaker,<br />
organised trips, visits and meals out are much more<br />
fun with a group of u3a friends and are arranged at<br />
affordable rates.<br />
Make the most of life and join one of the 34 u3as in<br />
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, including five in<br />

Achieving your exercise goals in Ashfield has<br />
never been a more attractive prospect, thanks to<br />
the transformation of leisure centres across the<br />
district.<br />
£22.5million has been invested in Lammas Leisure<br />
Centre, Hucknall Leisure Centre and the new, state-ofthe-art<br />
centre due to open later this year in Kirkby-in-<br />
Ashfield – all run by Everyone Active in partnership<br />
with Ashfield District Council.<br />
Lammas has just launched an innovative TAGactive<br />
Arena, which sits alongside a new soft play area,<br />
bringing together the worlds of activity, gaming and<br />
technology.<br />
The ice rink has been refurbished and a spectacular<br />
new 150-station fitness suite and new group cycling<br />
studio are impressive upgrades.<br />
Hucknall’s new 120-station gym, earth studio, indoor<br />
cycling studio and main studio have proved hugely<br />
popular with the community.<br />
Kirkby will also feature outstanding facilities for all<br />
ages and interests, including a swimming pool, splash<br />
pad, sauna and steam rooms, a sports hall and a Clip<br />
‘n Climb.<br />
