CONCERNING THE REPORT
ON THE ACTIVITIES OF
THE PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL
AND THE STATE
OF PEACE AND SECURITY IN AFRICA IN 2021
Your Excellency President Macky Sall, President of the sisterly
Republic of Senegal, Chairperson of the African Union,
Honorable African Union Heads of State and Government,
Mr. Moussa Faki, Chairperson of the African Union Commission,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the outset, I would like to convey the greetings of His Excellency
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his congratulations to
His Excellency President Macky Sall on the assumption of the
African Union Chairmanship by the sisterly Republic of Senegal.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to refer to various peace and security issues, as
follows:
First: It gives Egypt a great pleasure to launch the African Union
Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (AUC-
PCRD) in Cairo in December 2021, to be the operational arm for
reconstruction and development, and to carry out its tasks in
assessing the needs of countries emerging from conflict, as well
as developing and implementing comprehensive peace-building
programs in these regions that ensures that the roots of conflicts
are addressed in the framework of national ownership.
Second: Although the context of each conflict or hotbed in the
continent varies, there are many commonalities in the ways and
mechanisms of dealing with these challenges, with the aim of
immunizing the continent against tensions in the framework of a
clear vision, mainly, consolidating the institutional structures of
national governments, thus empowering them of extending their
sovereignty over their territories and protecting their citizens,
and developing a clear African strategy to eradicate the threat
of extremism and terrorism and dry up its sources of financing,
in addition to formulating a unified African position against
foreign interventions, under attempts by certain external forces
to destabilize their security and stability. In this context, Egypt
expresses its deep concern regarding the increase in the pace of
domestic turmoil in the countries of the continent, and stresses
the importance of investigating its real causes, not only adopting
a policy of reaction, but rather taking the initiative and working
hand in hand with countries facing political, economic and security
problems.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In conclusion, I would like to affirm that Egypt, as always, will
spare no effort to work with its African brethren, thus to contribute
to overcoming the challenges facing our African continent,
and returning steadily towards achieving the aims and aspirations
of our peoples for a better future.
