Colombia MICE Update:<br />
Between 2009 and 2011, the country opened more than 1,600 new hotel rooms with<br />
high-end brands, including Intercontinental. Hilton, Sofitel, Sonesta. Ibis and<br />
Wyndham. From luxury hotels that operate in exquisitely restored historic convents, to<br />
cozy, versatile boutique hotels, and state-of-the-art hotels in modern neighborhoods,<br />
Colombia is a mecca for Latin American hotel development - achieving both international<br />
recognition as a tourism destination and place for investment.<br />
Continuing to move ahead in its consolidation process as an international conventions<br />
destination, Colombia ranked 34 th worldwide as a MICE destination by the<br />
International Congress and Convention in 2010. Ranked as 60th among 263 cities in<br />
the MICE industry worldwide, Cartagena de Indias is attracting numerous businesses to host<br />
seminars, congresses, and corporate events. In addition, according to the Standard & Poor's<br />
rating agency, Colombia's debt rating improvement is expected to attract a new class of<br />
investors, including large financial institutions.<br />
Colombia's main cities, Bogota, Call, Cartagena and Medellin, as well as the entire Coffee<br />
Triangle region (Armenia, Manizales y Pereira), are seats of large events and fairs. Thanks<br />
to their modern and entrepreneurial spirit, Colombian cities have become the permanent<br />
seat of countless national and international events, such as the WEF Latin America in 2010,<br />
the Inter-American Development Bank Assembly in 2009, and the International Tourism<br />
Organization Assembly in 2007, among others. In more, recent news, Colombia was<br />
