This DVLA Auction of
Personalised Registrations is
being held at City Hall in
London.
City Hall has very strong links
with the Olympics as during the
closing ceremony of the 2008
Olympics, the Olympic Flag was
formally handed over from the
Mayor of Beijing to the Mayor of
London. One month later, the
Olympic and Paralympic flags
were raised outside London City
Hall. The original flags are still
on display today in City Hall,
along with other interesting Olympic memorabilia.
The auction itself is being held in The Chamber.
This is a 10 storey high public meeting room with
panoramic views across the river Thames from the
9th floor balcony. With its sweeping staircases,
apparently floating in mid-air, this is a marvel of
modern engineering.
City Hall is home to the Greater London Authority
(GLA) and as such is the office of the Mayor of
London and the London Assembly. It is located
between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, on the
south bank of the river Thames.
This striking rounded glass building was designed
by Foster + Partners, one of Britain's leading
architects, whose design brief was to create a
building for the GLA that would become a new
landmark for the capital.
