Pam’s a jolly good FE11 OW...
Making the 300-mile round trip and taking the time from her
hectic schedule to actually come and lock horns with other
bidders in our Stratford Manor Hotel auction room proved to be
the winning formula for IT consultant Pam Fellows in her quest
to buy what she believes to be a family legacy.
The businesswoman from Kent successfully bought FE11 OWS
for the princely sum of £18,400. Yes, she is the first to agree, she
paid a hefty amount, but Pam firmly states it was money well
spent as it’ll be kept in the family for generations to come.
Profound thoughts, especially as the only previous personalised
registration her family owned was made up of her husband,
Tony’s, initials bought for just £250 from the DVLA
Personalised Registrations’ website which, incidentally, is long
gone as it was sold with a previously-owned family car.
“Making the extra effort to bid in person was the deciding
factor behind my success in buying FE11 OWS, there’s no
doubting that,” said Pam.
“My husband and I had our limit, but in truth had I not been in
the auction room myself and actually gauged the level of interest
for myself, I possibly would have pulled out during the early
bidding.”
“Being there in person enabled me to see off the other
contenders vying for it in the room, and in the end it came
down to myself and a telephone bidder.
“After the initial flurry of bids, the tempo slowed
considerably at around £12,000, after that the responding
bids were clearly being made with extreme caution. Had I not
been there, I almost certainly would have pulled out at
£8,000 or even £10,000 even though our upper limit was
£15,000 on the hammer.”
Now FE11 OWS is in the family, it has created a dilemma for
the Fellows. First is actually what vehicle it will sit proudly
on. As it is from the 11-series and is suitable for vehicles
registered after March 1st 2011, Pam or her husband will
have to buy newer vehicles for it, so the debate, or race, is on
between them.
As they celebrated their “win”, another claimant came into
the frame in the form of their 17-year-old son, James, who
instantly declared his interest in having the registration -
though he has the task of passing his driving exams and
buying a suitable car first…
Tug of war… Pam and Tony Fellows went to great lengths to buy FE11 OWS, now they’re fighting it out as to who’s car it’ll sit on.
