The Weekly Times | TWT | 30 March 2022

The Weekly Times - TWT - cheekily describes itself as a campaigning, crusading, truth-seeking, death defying, Aussie battler-aligned, one-eyed-Tiger-led news organisation dedicated to Sydney's north west. It's one of the few remaining independently run community newspapers and turned 100 years old on September 1, 2021 - so if you want to show your support for independent media, have a quick look at the paper, submit a letter to the editor via its website or like or share one of its posts on social media. Devastation as Sydney FC

dominate but lose Grand Final

Sydney FC have been defeated 2-1 by Melbourne Victory in a heartbreaking

Grand Final which they dominated with 20 shots to seven but just couldn’t

find the back of the net.

State Memorial Service for Shane Warne

A State Memorial Service to honour

former Australian test cricketer

Mr Shane Warne will be held at 7pm

on Wednesday 30 March at the Melbourne

Cricket Ground.

Mr Warne didn’t just inspire

a cricketing generation – he

defined it. Born for the big occasion,

he gave us irreplaceable MCG

memories: the Ashes hat trick, his 700th wicket

and calming Bay 13 in his trackies.

In recognition of Mr Warne’s achievements

and legacy, his family have requested that

public attendees come to the MCG dressed in

their cricket gear.

There will also be plenty of options to view

the service for fans outside Victoria.

ABC TV, Nine, Seven and Ten networks will all

telecast the service live and the event will also

be live streamed at:

The Sky Blues ran rampant

and had balls cleared

off the line, hit the post, a

goal disallowed plus numerous

chances saved by Dumont

in the Melbourne goal.

It proved costly early in the

second half when a speculative

cross from Cooney-

Cross found the head of

Jackson.

Melbourne went further

ahead just after the hour

when a ricochet fell to Zimmerman

who smashed the

ball home.

A fiery encounter continued

when Vine equalised

two minutes later from

Rule’s downward header.

Vine and Lowe had chances

to pull the Sky Blues level

late on but it wasn’t to be

and Sydney FC fall at the

final hurdle.

“It’s heart-breaking, the

girls are devastated,” said

Sydney FC coach Ante Juric.

“They always pick themselves

up.

“If you put everything into

something and you lose,

that’s still winning, and I

truly believe that because

sometimes the scoreline

doesn’t reflect what actually

happened.

“But that’s just life. They

know they put everything

into it and deserved to win

but we didn’t.”
