The Weekly Times | TWT | 30 March 2022
The Weekly Times - TWT - cheekily describes itself as a campaigning, crusading, truth-seeking, death defying, Aussie battler-aligned, one-eyed-Tiger-led news organisation dedicated to Sydney's north west. It's one of the few remaining independently run community newspapers and turned 100 years old on September 1, 2021 - so if you want to show your support for independent media, have a quick look at the paper, submit a letter to the editor via its website or like or share one of its posts on social media. The flip book - or digital edition/replica - of the 30th March 2022 edition of TWT can be reached here: https://weeklytimes.com.au/the-weekly-times-twt-30th-march-2022/ And the most current edition of TWT is always reachable using this short address: bit.ly/OurTWT

JB asks: Remember Jack Lang?
Who remembers the Premier of NSW John Thomas Lang, known in his day as “The Big
Fella” who officially opened the Sydney Harbour Bridge March 19, 1932?
Jack Lang was a political giant in his time and
served as Colonial treasurer 1920 -1922 and Premier
and Colonial Treasurer 1925-1927 and 1930-1932.
He served during the turbulent times of the Great
Depression and was dramatically dismissed by the
Governor Philip Game for refusing to pay English
bondholders and raiding the banks to support workers..
He introduced the world’s first workers compensation
laws and founded the Government Insurance
Office GIO to finance it.. More next week with JB’s
personal relationship with Jack Lang.

PUBLIC WARN-
ING readers for Friday
is April Fool’s Day, so
be careful what you
hear or do before noon!
Hunters Hill Council is
joining in the fun of the
occasion this year with
a “Covid safe Festival
of Fools”. See details
elsewhere.
One thing we can be
sure about is that this
weekend is the end of in
my opinion, the dreaded
Daylight Saving nonsense.
How many of our
readers agree with me
or do you believe that
it’s great to have longer
afternoons to spend
time in the pub or outdoors.
Have you ever imagined
the cost to industry
and everything for
changing all the public
clocks, bus, rail, air
timetables and then
have to change them
all back again in six
months time?

GOOD NEWS is to

later this year with
Maundy Thursday
April 14, Good Friday
April and Easter Day
Sunday April 17.
We will be hosting a
detailed program of local
church Easter services
over the next two
weeks.
We can announce this
week that the popular
annual Hunters Hill
churches Easter Good
Friday Way of the Cross
Walk will be replaced
by a “creative self guided
walk” that allows
people to avoid a large
crowd and visit each
station in a Covid safe
way in their own time!

THIS WEEK we remember
Arthur Ashford

would be 109 this Sunday
but passed away
late 2018 aged 106.
He always attributed
his longevity and good
health to delivering
The Weekly Times in
his youth and continued
reading TWT every
week of his life.
