“I want to encourage people to be more creative and share the joy that 

can be found in the process through my paintings,” says Evgeny Potapkin 

- Exclusive to Magzoid 

Evgeny (JackPot) Potapkin 

is an artist who mainly 

focuses on portraits. 

His primary and favorite 

medium is oil paints and 

most of his artworks are created 

without drawing. Working in a 

variety of styles, from basic stains 

(spots) to detailed portraits, he 

documents the entire process with 

video and audio commentary. 

The main motive behind his 

paintings is to encourage people 

to be more creative and share the 

joy that can be found in the 

process. He believes people 

choose professions based 

on the reputation and the 

ability to earn a lot of money 

rather than focus on their 

interests and passion. Evgeny 

earned his bachelor's 

degree in automotive 

engineering 

and went on to 

work as a road 

infrastructure 

designer before 

His ambition is to improve 

his memory to the point 

where he can paint people's 

strongest, often fleeting 

emotions from memory, 

combine abstraction and 

portraiture so that when a 

person looks at his work, 

he feels everything he 

wants to say 

realizing he was in 

the wrong place. He 

was strolling down the 

street one lovely spring 

morning when all of 

a sudden, out 

of nowhere, 

a powerful 

flood of 

pictures of 

gorgeous 

faces painted in oil came to him. 

This filled him with such joy that 

tears welled up in his eyes; he was 

overjoyed by what he saw, and he 

no longer had any doubts about 

what he desired. 

Eventually he got back to drawing 

again, initially with a simple pencil 

and then with colored pencils, 

gradually progressing to what he 

currently possesses. Following that 

encounter, he began experiencing 

more and more miracles, which 

increasingly directed and 

convinced him, both then and now, 

that he was on the right track. 

His ambition is to improve his 

memory to the point where he can 

paint people's strongest, often 

fleeting emotions from memory, 

combine abstraction and portraiture 

so that when a person looks at his 

work, he feels everything he wants 

to say, and, of course, share his 

knowledge and skills with anyone 

who is interested.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak Kharbash Al-Marri, being 

one of the leaders helped Sikka Art flourish, as 

it offers the public a unique path to showcase 

a series of events related to exhibitions, workshops, 

films, and music. He aims to instill local art in the 

present and the coming generation. Sikka is a great 

platform as it encourages art in many ways. In Dubai 

Culture, the one aspect they notice and did include 

is talent growth. According to him, talent growth is a 

very essential element, as it includes encouraging 

and nourishing talent in the UAE. This was just a 

sneak peek, but the initial plan was to make Sikka 

the biggest platform for talent growth. They also 

aim to push the festival to a longer period, maybe 

across the whole year, and not just to end during 

March. Consequently, with diversity comes integrity. 

Therefore they encourage all the students in UAE to 

come forward and be a part of the art and design 

sector. Everyone will be given equal rewards and 

respect. 

Kamla AlOlama

This tenth edition is vital for them to come 

up with a new strategy for Sikka to make 

sure it is a sustainable platform. Every 

year it is operated for ten days, but now the 

new direction is to run the event whole yearround. 

The main purpose of the platform is 

to have a sustainable ecosystem that fosters 

young and emerging talents. Focusing on 

talent development, they also try to highlight 

the different aspects of an artist's journey. 

Part of the ecosystem is to have mentors 

from established organizations. It is more 

sustainable to have an event that makes you 

learn rather than leave you hanging after 

some time. They are trying to diversify the 

offerings. Sikka is an important platform for 

opportunities. It will offer them to find their 

paths and connect with the community locally, 

leading to international recognition as well. It 

is a gateway to new opportunities.

The 10th edition of Sikka is quite exciting. They have 

many other editions in the 10th edition alone; its a 

9th-year transformational path, and it will be a platform 

moving forward. After nine editions, the goal is to establish 

an environment that supports developing artists, art, and 

design. Sikka Art and Design Festival 2022 was graced with 

1,269 artworks, 250+ artists, and 70+ live performances. 

They will be adopting strategies and goals next year, and 

the fare will remain the same. The tenth edition, according to 

Noor, will focus on new media companies that focus on new 

art and realty firms. There are a variety of houses, including 

an Emirati mansion that endorses jewels and the well-known 

Khaleeji house. This event will provide attendees with a sneak 

peek at some of the platform's upcoming services. Their main 

focus is on open calls for new and rising artists.

Sara Ahli 

Artist 

Sara Ahli is a 

visual artist 

based in 

Dubai. Sara is 

a newcomer 

to the world 

of art, with a 

background 

in fashion 

design. She 

was chosen as 

an upcoming talent. 

The first public sculpture she made 

for Sikka Art is a continuing development in 

which she used a balloon to represent an 

abstract figure. The concept is to examine 

the body and space, as balloons are light 

and enjoyable, as well as our psychological 

bodies. Sara says that we utilize the body 

as a canvas in fashion, but in art, it feels 

like we're delving into the body, rather than 

just making sculptures on the body. It is 

beneficial to artists who are eager to create 

and grow. “I'm quite interested in learning 

more about contemporary art. I'm willing to 

expand and explore, and I'm humbled by the 

UAE's continuous support and upliftment.” 

Abdulla bin Suqat 

Artist / Designer 

Abdulla bin Suqat is an 

artist and designer 

based in Dubai. An 

installation work, ‘The 

People of My Mother’s 

Garden’, by Abdulla, is less 

about tradition and more 

about the fantasy world 

of Plump’s Topia. Towering 

white flowers, handmade from 

tracing paper, fill a room where 

ethereal music composed by bin 

Suqat plays. Projected onto the scene are clips of leafy 

pathways and forests, filmed by the artist in areas such as 

Khawaneej, plus animated bougainvillea, pressed and handpainted 

to resemble butterflies. Over the years, Abdulla 

has built up these fictional narratives that center on the 

relationship between a mother named Queen Alara and her 

child. He conceived the idea for the work following a 2013 

series of portraits of female figures. “I was obsessed with 

princesses and queens, specifically,” he says. “I wanted these 

women to exist in a different world so no one could question 

the concept. Then I started realizing that each character 

reflected something that I was going through in my own life 

and they helped me through it,” he explains. The artist, who 

participated in Sikka in 2018, says this year’s event includes a 

stronger line-up of artists and programming.

Sacha Jafri and Marcus Schaefer 

launch ‘The Art Maze’, on Burj Al Arab, 

Jumeirah helipad. 

In celebration of UNESCO’s World 

Heritage Sites’ 50th anniversary, 

artist and philanthropist Sacha 

Jafri partnered with the art 

visionary, Marcus Schaefer, to 

launch a first-of-its-kind exhibition 

on top of the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah 

Helipad. 

‘The Art Maze’ showcased 30 

original oil and acrylic masterpieces 

by Sacha Jafri and gave visitors the 

opportunity to choose which path 

to take and create an experience 

where the journey is the destination. 

Marcus Schaefer, whose mission 

is to create unique platforms for 

artists to display their work beyond 

traditional boundaries, is the 

mastermind behind the one-of-akind 

gallery structure, which is a 

12-meter-by-12-meter steel labyrinth. 

Sacha Jafri, commented, “In 

a world where the metaverse is 

becoming more of a reality, and 

‘The Art Maze’ showcased 30 original oil and 

acrylic masterpieces by Sacha Jafri and gave 

visitors the opportunity to choose which path 

to take and create an experience where the 

journey is the destination. 

where online and physical living is 

fully integrated, this project is about 

reconnecting Humanity to the beauty 

that surrounds us, within our natural 

world, by re-establishing links with 

our heritage and cultural history. The 

launch of the ‘The Art Maze’ on the 

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Helipad will 

truly be a first-of-its-kind concept 

where art meets architecture and 

technology, and we can’t wait to 

share it with the rest of the world.” 

Sacha has been recognized by the 

United Nations for his humanitarian 

work as he has raised over $140 

million for charitable causes. His 

work with ‘The Art Maze’ will not 

only celebrate the UNESCO World 

Heritage Sites’ 50th anniversary and 

its outstanding universal values, but 

it also aims to reconnect society with 

the cultural history and beauty of our 

planet’s most protected sites through 

Education, Science, and Culture.

Artist Takashi Murakami puts a 

colorful spin on Hublot Classic Fusion 

The Japanese artist 

Takashi Murakami and 

Swiss watchmaker Hublot 

return with a head-turning 

timepiece. The Classic 

Fusion Sapphire Rainbow piece is 

centered around the iconic smiling 

flower; a monochromatic look for a 

rainbow theme that perfectly reflects 

Murakami’s signature style. 

According to Hublot, the watch 

has a 45mm-diameter case 

cut from sapphire crystal, and 

features nearly 500 gemstones on 

the flower’s petals. There are rubies, 

pink sapphires, amethysts, blue 

sapphires, tsavorites, yellow, and 

orange sapphires, which collectively 

represent the colors of the rainbow.

is targeting 

contemporary art 

insiders, as the 

company stated that 

the watch is to be 

available as a limited 

edition piece of 100 

numbered pieces. 

Underneath the flower is the Hublot 

HUB1214, a self-winding calibre

Abstract Expressionism

“I’m interested in bringing the grandeur 

and gravitas of Renaissance and Baroque 

compositions to the mundane, suburban scenes 

of domestic life,” says Zoey Frank 


Zoey Frank is an artist 

based in Boulder, 

Colorado who received 

her MFA in painting 

from Laguna College of 

Art and Design in Laguna Beach, 

California after studying for four 

years with Juliette Aristides in the 

Classical Atelier at Gage Academy 

of Art in Seattle, Washington. 

From early frescos and basrelief 

sculptures to abstract 

expressionism, she has been 

increasingly interested in paints 

that reinforce the rigidity of the 

surface. She has started breaking 

up her images using abstract color 

patterns and planes to alternately 

expand and compress the illusion 

of depth in the images, drawing the 

spectator back to the surface level. 

Her fascination lies in how diverse 

techniques, ranging from realism 

to abstraction to sculpture, may 

Zoey has been working 

on a series of summer 

paintings, which she has 

arranged in the backyard, 

inside her house, and at the 

pool. Families and friends 

are crammed together in 

the paintings interspersed 

with the vivid colors. 

coexist and enrich one another as 

our gaze wanders from one to the 

next. 

She's particularly interested 

in bringing the grandeur and 

seriousness of Renaissance and 

Baroque compositions to the 

everyday suburban scenes; a 

seventy-year-old woman's birthday 

party, a family picnic on the grass. 

Focusing on the commonplace 

allows her to experiment with the 

painting's more formal elements, 

such as the angles of repetitive 

gestures, the arrangement of light 

and dark shapes, and the color 

pathways. The bright plastics offer 

another compositional tool to move 

our gaze across the canvas. 

For several years now, Zoey 

has been working on a series of 

summer paintings, which she has 

arranged in the backyard, inside 

her house, and at the pool. Families 

and friends are crammed together 

in the paintings interspersed with 

the vivid colors of plastic inflated 

toys and sun hats. Three Elizabeth 

Greenshields fellowships and 

the Avigdor Arikha Memorial 

International Residency Scholarship 

are among the distinctions and 

awards she has earned. Her work 

has been shown in galleries across 

the US and Europe.

Ralf Glabischnig is an entrepreneur and founder of Crypto Oasis who is committed to developing 

the blockchain ecosystem both in Switzerland and worldwide. He is one of the Initiators of 

the Swiss Crypto Valley, one of the world-leading Blockchain ecosystems in Switzerland. 

Based on the experience and success of Crypto Valley, he and his team have set up Crypto 

Oasis as the ecosystem in the Middle East. Through a strategic partnership with the DMCC, 

the DMCC Crypto Centre was launched in Dubai. With half of the Blockchain-based businesses 

registered within the Freezone, it is the core of the community in the region. Here is what he has 

to say about his journey, the blockchain ecosystem, and its stakeholders.

You have prominently 

established yourself 

as a seasoned 

entrepreneur and 

businessman. We 

would like to know about your 

very first step in the world of 

cryptocurrency. 

It all happened coincidentally. I 

moved to Zug, Switzerland in 2005 

and opened my first company 

in 2009. Back then we had no 

idea about bitcoin. In 2013, we 

opened a business center in Zug, 

a co-working space for all kinds 

of companies. Many firms were 

knocking on our doors looking for 

blockchain companies and it was 

then that we started digging deep 

into the industry of blockchain. 

I come from a software 

development and strategy 

consultancy background, and we 

saw various people coming to Zug. 

So, to support this we began inviting 

startups to join us in the Crypto labs 

that we started. 

In the year 2015-2016, we started 

a blockchain competition where 

instead of investing in startups 

we gave out our prize money 

of $100,000 for the best idea in 

blockchain insurance, finance, 

and real estate. It was then that 

Crypto Valley, a leading blockchain 

and cryptographic technology 

ecosystem happened to us. 

How does Blockchain influence 

the ecosystem of the creatives 

and vice versa? 

Blockchain is cutting out the 

middleman. In the traditional 

process different people are 

involved in between the creatives 

and the customers. With blockchain 

technology combined with social 

media, we were able to cut out a 

lot of these middlemen. If a young 

artist creates a painting and wants 

to sell it, he probably gets $500 for 

the first painting he sells through 

a traditional channel out of which 

$150-200 would stay with him. But 

with social media on one hand and 

blockchain on the other, he would

about it? 

There are successful digital art 

projects in the NFT space like 

“Crypto punks” and ‘Bored Apes’. 

They have not tried to bring the 

physical world into the NFT world, 

like a tokenized Picasso, they have 

been created in the digital world 

and are now expanding into the 

physical world. I believe, what we 

see right now is the creation of the 

fundament for the metaverse. And 

it is important how we define and 

position ourselves as individuals 

and organisation in this new world. 

We can own and create NFTs 

which are existing in both worlds, 

like Nike does with the partnership 

and takeover of RTFKT as an 

early mover, or just consuming 

and following the new trends. It 

needs creativity to get into this 

new Metaverse space, not just a

brand to say, “I got a successful 

product range in the real world, 

now let’s put the same product as 

NFT in the digital world and expect 

this strategy being successful.” It 

is like the end of the 90’s typical 

corporates trying to enter the digital 

world… and fail! 

What differentiates an investable 

NFT from a Ponzi scheme NFT? 

This is a tough question. The 

intention of the creators of the NFTs 

is what matters at the end of the 

day. When we evaluate startups, we 

investigate the founders running the 

startup; whether they “only” want 

to make money, or are planning 

to create a sustainable business. 

The same goes with NFTs. It is the 

intention that matters, and the utility 

they want to deliver. We always try to 

understand their approach and take 

a look behind the scenes. NFT are 

much more than only art, they have 

so much potential utility to redefine 

ownership. 

Is it the right time for 

contemporary artists to take a 

digital turn or is it otherwise? 

I believe that to take a turn into 

digital depends upon your ideology, 

vision, and thought process. The 

digital art world has big differences 

from the contemporary art world. 

Just putting your artwork one to one 

in the digital world will most likely 

not work out. You have to build a 

community in the digital world and 

create some benefits (utility) for 

them, if they buy (and use) your 

NFTs. In a digital world there are 

also totally new laws and rules: Take 

for example land in the digital world. 

If a celebrity (like Snoop Dogg) 

owns a piece of land, the value of 

the land around him raises. But in 

real life, he could only have a limited 

number of neighbours. In a digital 

land it could be 100s or 1000s. 

So“location, location, location“ gets 

a new definition. Similar rules are 

affecting galleries. In the digital

What should be the first step for a 

creative to enter the world of NFTs 

and Metaverse? 

The first step should be to go to 

discord communities, traders’ 

communities, and follow digital 

artists. You need to understand the 

artist. It is unique to build a fanbase 

depending on what kind of artist 

you are. Artists need to learn and 

rethink. Just not copy one idea since 

it will not add value to the art. 

Is it important to have technical 

know-how before starting an NFT 

project? 

Artists should have a good 

technological partner. Also the 

right research and support is 

needed regarding the legal and 

business environment. You need to 

understand how to make money, 

how to do taxes. If you need to pay 

income tax, you need to know and 

learn about it. In the same way, 

when you sell something digitally, 

to make sure it is secure, you need 

someone who understands the 

different frameworks. 

How do you see the NFT space 

developing in the future? 

People always ask me where 

we see this going. I believe that 

NFTs will be the ultimate ownership 

of your art and on the other side, 

the transactions will be on the 

blockchain. We will see this in 

the coming 10 years. And a very 

important part will be the secure 

“custody” of your digital assets. 

The industry still needs to improve 

the user experience to reach mass 

adoption. 

How do you plan on incorporating 

the local artist community within 

the Blockchain ecosystem of 

Crypto Oasis? 

We are creating societies which 

are similar to members clubs and 

everyone is able to join. There will 

be a creator society and a collector 

society to share knowledge and 

experience and give access to 

the industry. On the other side 

we created our own Crypto Oasis 

Metaverse Collection, it is a fund like 

investment structure to buy digital 

art and other metaverse objects. So 

people can join us to invest in this 

new world. And we are exhibiting 

our collection in the metaverse and 

in the real world, like we did on Art 

Dubai. 

What message do you have for 

our readers? 

NFTs are much more than just 

pieces of art, NFTs are non-fungible 

tokens with various added values, 

use cases and utilities. It enables 

a new way of ownership and has 

a huge potential for growth in the 

future! The actual version of the 

Internet is the Internet of Information, 

the next version will be the Internet 

of Value, and NFTs will enable this 

WEB3 and the Metaverse.

Lauren is a self-taught resin artist from London 

who has moved to Dubai to expand her work and 

extend her wings. She is fortunate to have studios 

in both London and Dubai where she works on her 

paintings. Crushed glass, jewels, crystals, resin, and 

other substances are used in her resin art, which is 

inspired by Geode Crystals. Her resin geodes add an 

impact to any room they are placed in. This modern art 

is very unique and beautiful because of the high shine 

of the resin and the sparkles of the crystals and glass. 

She always employs the highest quality materials, 

including special requests for real gold leaf, natural 

diamonds, and a collection of color stones-Bernese 

rubies, finest Colombian emeralds, and so on. The 

possibilities are endless when it comes to creating a 

piece of jewelry. She feels that her work, which she 

crafts with gemstones and crystals in the style of real 

Geodes, would bring happiness and great energy

Marina Fedorova is an artist who 

grew up in Russia reading 

science fiction. She went to 

art school and an academy before 

launching her own exhibition. Her 

paintings are influenced by Hollywood 

and include stars. Growing up in 

the Soviet Union, she was fascinated by space and 

her interest in space grew as she watched movies 

and read literature. Marina didn't have to brainstorm 

on the name because it came to her naturally. “My 

desire to build anything out of space, which eventually 

transformed into a COSMODREAMS, was sparked by 

my dream for space”. It is a large-scale project that 

will be displayed in a traveling exhibition. The project 

includes over 120 paintings and dozens of sculptures

Pınar Nur Güven is a 

23-year-old French teacher 

who was born and raised 

in Turkey. She is a selftaught 

artist who enjoys 

transferring the facial expressions of 

the people she sketches in her own 

manner and connects with them as 

an artist. 

Art is a branch of her life that she 

incorporates into every element of 

her existence. Even though she 

did not attend a fine arts program, 

she developed her own style via 

extensive drawing and practice. 

She hopes to work in the future in a 

career that allows her to combine 

her artistic abilities with her linguistic 

skills. "Even if people don't believe 

in you, practice a lot, trust yourself, 

and please don't give up because it 

won't let you down," she always tells 

herself. 

Pinar enjoys making portraits out 

of simple geometric patterns and 

teaching others how to do so. She 

genuinely enjoys assisting others. 

Today, K-pop, like other music 

genres, is a very valued music genre. 

People are constantly impressed by 

someone they admire, whether it be 

in the past, present, or future. 

Art is a branch

shaped and refined by her portraits 

of BTS members. She has been

Art Dubai 2022 closes with a 

record attendance of 30,000+ visitors

Art Dubai 2022, held from 

11-13 March 2022 at the 

Madinat Jumeirah was the 

fair’s largest to date with 

a record attendance of more than 

30,000 visitors across five days. It 

featured more than 120 presentations 

by 104 galleries and platforms 

from 44 countries across four main 

sections: Contemporary, Bawwaba, 

Modern, and Art Dubai Digital. 

The gallery program was 

complemented by newly 

commissioned works by 

internationally recognized artists 

and an innovative, world-class 

talks program that brought together 

the brightest minds in the global 

art world, and the new Bybit Talks 

Series. The debut edition of Art 

Dubai Digital featured a new 

physical gallery section presenting a 

curated selection of the most cuttingedge 

digital platforms internationally. 

Dubai's Lawrie Shabibi sold 

$180,000 worth of works including a 

wall sculpture by Mehdi Moutashar, 

a painting by Mohamed Ahmed 

Ibrahim — who is representing the 

UAE at the Venice Biennale — and a 

marble inlay work by Hamra Abbas, 

which they placed in a regional 

institution. 

Capitalizing on the trend for NFTs 

in the art world, the Art Dubai Digital 

section examined the context out of 

which NFTs, cryptocurrency, video 

art, and virtual reality (VR) have 

grown since the rise of digital art 

in the 1980s, including those who 

are leading the way in the rapidly 

expanding digital art space. 

The NFT and digital offerings at 

Art Dubai Digital reported sales, in 

both dollars and Ethereum. Institut. 

co sold an NFT by Tyler Hobbs for 

88 Ethereum ($220,000), as well 

as a strong number of editions 

and NFTs by Lawrence Lek (each 

priced at $1,111) in the first time the 

digital artist has done a drop. Joe

was released in China in 2018. 

His recent achievements include 

winning the Creative Quarterly fine 

art competition in 2017, being the 

finalist in the Clyde & Co Oil Painting 

Competition in 2016, being named 

Outstanding Artwork in the Academy 

of Art University in 2014 among many

World Art Dubai 2022 embraced 

a unique blend of art, education, and 

entertainment 

The region’s largest 

affordable art fair, World 

Art Dubai 2022, took 

place from March 16 -19 

at Dubai World Trade 

Centre with an array of features 

that saw more than 300 artists 

from over 50 countries, making the 

current edition the biggest version 

of the event yet. From interactive 

workshops to artistic displays, the 

fair gave special focus to urban 

fashion, design, and art as well as a 

dedicated section for NFTs. 

Trixie LohMirmand, Executive 

Vice President of Dubai World Trade 

Centre said, “Underpinning our 

position as a highlight of Dubai’s 

annual art event scene, our theme 

this year is ‘Unplug Yourself’ which 

aims to provoke inspired thinking 

and the exploration of feelings which 

in turn enables visitors to engage in 

mind-opening experiences that only 

art can catalyze.” 

The fair also featured a revamped 

Urban Art DXB. While the graffiti 

corner had always been a central 

element of the fair, Urban Art DXB 

expanded with performances 

and competitions including 

breakdancing and freestyle, 

a voguing dance floor where 

performers entered in groups 

or solos, as well as a make-up 

extravaganza contest. 

NFTs also made their World Art 

Dubai debut this year, with an 

entire section dedicated to digital 

art. The zone, named WAD Next, 

exhibited NFT artworks by artists 

and galleries from the UAE, the US, 

Lebanon, and Iran. The artworks 

were each accompanied by a QR 

code, directing visitors to an online 

marketplace. 

This year, the fair also featured 

a Japanese pavilion, a dedicated 

space that honored the country's 

long-running participation in the fair. 

The pavilion featured 68 artists and 

held live performances, workshops 

on calligraphy and cherry blossom 

stamping, as well as a kimono 

fashion show. 

An exciting schedule of 

workshops also entertained the 

visitors with classes aimed at all 

ages, including a live sketching 

workshop, garment stitching, and a 

photography workshop by Nikon.

Lee K is a South Korean 

artist who majorly focuses 

on painting portraits. He 

often takes over models 

who are familiar to the 

public to mold them as he pleases. 

The artist makes his compositions 

appear through a series of strokes 

and wavy lines that finally compose 

curves of the face. 

His gesture is frenetic, both rapid 

and precise, and evokes engraving

understanding steers Lee to favor

depriving his models of their mouth.

Louvre Abu Dhabi to focus on 

the best works of art created on paper from 

around the world 

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has 

unveiled the specifics 

of its upcoming show, 

which will honor some of 

the world’s best works 

on paper. Stories of Paper, a 

collaboration between the Louvre 

Museum and France Museums, will 

feature works from 16 French and 

international art institutions and 

libraries, as well as a few pieces 

from private collections. 

The exhibition, which will feature 

over 100 works of art and objects, 

including books, manuscripts, 

sketches, a house replica, and 13 

modern artworks and installations, 

attempts to demonstrate the 

breadth of artistic expression that 

paper has enabled. 

Carmontelle’s Figures Walking 

in a Parkland (1795) from the 

Louvre collection in Paris, a 

Munajat Ali, a Quran has written 

in fingernail calligraphy from the 

National Library of France, and 

a number of works by prominent 

contemporary Emirati and Middle 

Eastern artists, including Dana 

Awartani’s He is Who created the 

Stories of Paper, a 

collaboration between 

the Louvre Museum and 

France Museums, will 

feature works from 16 

French and international

Heavens and Earth in Six Days,

Mahnaz Karimi 

Art is her

Mahnaz Karimi is a multiaward-winning 

artist who 

works in the realms of 

contemporary art, fine art, and 

installation art. She was born in 

the Iranian capital of Tehran in 

1984. Her passion for drawing 

began in her adolescent years 

and blossomed when she decided 

to pursue a Bachelor's degree in 

Graphics at Alzahra University in 

Tehran, Iran. 

She has mastered the techniques 

and chemistry of her medium, 

allowing her to further enhance 

and expand the process. She has 

managed to incorporate a variety 

of artistic techniques while also 

expressing her issues in a variety 

of forms and materials. Nature, 

peace, passion, and connecting 

the past and present are all notions 

and storylines that run through all of 

her works of art. 

Her paintings are mostly based 

on pouring, which entails applying 

paint with a pouring technique 

rather than a brush. This fluidity, 

combined with the unexpected 

nature of resin, allows her to 

more accurately explore many 

textures seen in nature than any 

other media. Art is her first means 

of expressing sentiments, of 

showing different sides of nature 

and realities of life to viewers, 

of emphasizing the positive and 

easing the negative. Her take on 

unique issues and products is 

called design. 

Her sculptures were on display at 

DIFC Arts Nights in November 2021 

and at the Al Murabba Arts Festival 

in October 2021. Her limited-edition 

artworks were also on display at 

World Art Dubai 2021. Her wall art 

design 'Dandelion and Wishes' was 

selected to be presented at Hebei 

International Industrial Design 

Week in China, and she got the 

Bronze A' design Award 2020 in 

the Arts, Crafts, and Ready-Made 

Design Category for the 2019-2020 

term. She came in at #131 out of 

all the designers who entered the 

Arts, Crafts Design Award in the 

previous thirteen years.

Fathima Mohiuddin 


Fathima is a Canadian 

immigrant artist from India who 

was born and raised in the 

UAE. Her work embodies her third 

culture identity in the sense that it is 

a hybrid medley of many influences 

and in the end, a voice of her 

own. Fathima uses symbolism and 

narrative to convey her memories 

and learning and identify universal 

sentiments while addressing her 

curiosity about the universe, our 

place in it, and other existential 

conundrums. 

Her art and style, which 

frequently references symbols of 

freedom, triumph, and resilience, 

reflects her liberation from cultural 

limitations, imposed identities and 

boundaries, and a voyage into the 

subconscious. Fatima's work has 

appeared on public walls in ten 

countries in recent years and has 

a studio practice in drawing and 

painting, as well as several brandrelated 

commercial projects. 

She holds a BA in Art and Culture 

from the University of Toronto, as 

well as an MA in Sociology from 

Goldsmiths, University of London. 

She received the Sheikha Manal 

Young Artist Award in 2010 and 

went on to develop The Domino, 

a Dubai-based artist-run platform. 

Fathima was nominated for the 

Emirates Woman of the Year award 

in 2011 for her contribution to the 

developing art scene in the UAE.

retail art expo, which wrapped 

up at Dubai World Trade Centre, 

provided an important platform 

for new as well as established 

international and local artists

Snehal Pendurkar is a 

Mumbai-based artist 

and filmmaker. Having 

always enjoyed painting, 

she aspired to be a 

professional artist since she 

was young. 

Snehal has always felt a strong 

connection to the natural world. 

Spending her childhood roaming 

around the lovely Coastal Rainforest, 

the nature's beauty and enchantment 

she witnessed every minute of her 

existence captured her imagination 

and made her thankful to be able to 

see such magnificent creations. She 

has always been drawn to the rays of 

light that shine through the fog and 

haze, forming a beam of light and the 

particles that shine within it, which 

she considers divine and comforting 

to her spirit. She tries to relive these 

moments by painting the feelings in 

her works. 

She hopes to travel the 

world, visit beautiful 

places and leave a legacy 

of artworks behind that 

brings smiles to people for 

years to come. 

Being a 90’s kid, she was 

enthralled by postcards as a child. 

Her paintings, she believes, are 

attempting to achieve a retro and 

vintage style. She feels that her 

fascination with postcards influenced 

her to establish her own style. 

Snehal has always believed that 

art is a blessing and that it has the 

ability to heal. She considers herself 

fortunate to have been born with 

the capacity to paint and connect

Bassam Nader is an ICF-certified coach in positive 

transformation and one of Dubai’s top show hosts. 

At an early age, he started exploring his passion 

and living it. Being one of the best MCs/DJs in the UAE,

Having worked with Celeste's events company in 2017,

Shibin Sahadevan 


Shibin Sahadevan is a mind play 

artist who concentrates on magic 

related to the mind, which is 

commonly known as mentalism. It is a 

combination of the mystery of magic, 

psychology, and showmanship. 

Magic fascinated him from a young 

age while watching a series of shows 

by the renowned magician David 

Copperfield. The constant support of 

his parents encouraged him to pursue 

it further to perform for his family and 

friends. 

As years passed, he got busy, and for 

almost 8 years magic took a back seat. 

After graduating from school, he enrolled 

to study engineering. It was at the same 

time the master street magician David 

Blaine hit the street and there was a 

boom in the field. It rekindled the fire in 

him, and he went on to learn new tricks 

and perfected his performances. Shibin 

began performing again at college 

and started gaining the name of a 

professional magician at the age of 20. 

Shibin currently focuses on mentalism. 

The shows are audience interactive 

where people are utilized in every 

experiment on the stage. The spectator

IMPRESSIONISM AND

POINTILLISM 

Pointillism is a painting technique 

pioneered by French artists 

Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.

Taus Makhacheva: A Space of 

Celebration 

Narrating social and cultural life in post-Soviet Dagestan, Russian 

artist Taus Makhacheva's complex stagings will be shown in Dubai 

for the first time as part of the artist's retrospective at Jameel Arts 

Centre. Cultural authenticity and historical fluctuations are explored 

across humorous but observant video works and installations 

depicting faulty gymnast training grounds, Soviet-era circuses, 

wedding halls, and suspended mountain ranges. Makhacheva's 

Superhero Sighting Society (2019) project, for instance, gathers 

voices from around the world attesting to superhero sightings, 

evoking the figures of power that emerge in response to specific 

landscapes and environments.

Emirati painter Hashel Al Lamki's vivid mountainscapes

to fluid acrylic pouring but with a

in alcohol ink on yupo paper with 

other media added for a distinct 

style. 

Ange’s art speaks energy that is 

soothing and uplifting all at once. 

She aims to set up a collaboration 

with what’s already there; giving 

media interactions and incidental 

aesthetics a forum to play and 

heighten the beauty according to her 

unique desires. 

Water, wind, vapor, waves, 

and smoke are encapsulated in 

her art, which celebrates energy 

and movement. She appreciates 

collaborating with interior designers 

and taking on the challenge of 

producing custom pieces to 

complement a room. 

She is a strong believer that we rise

Also known as Tao Zhu Yin Yuan, 

the eco-friendly residential tower 

was developed by BES Engineering

The Mastercard Foundation 

brand mark is used on internal 

and external communications. The 

brand mark is comprised of two 

elements; a logo and a word mark. 

The logo is modeled after 

Mastercard International’s 

corporate symbol and is composed 

of two intersecting circles. It is 

important to note that in written 

text, we are referred to as the 

“Mastercard Foundation” with 

capital letters. Authorized master 

artwork must be used to reproduce 

the signature. 

The Brand Guidelines provide 

the Foundation employees 

and partners with a system for 

representing the Foundation and 

contain guidance on the use of 

official brand marks, language, 

photography, colors, typography, 

and obtaining permissions. 

Mastercard had its origins in the 

late 1940s when several U.S. banks 

gave their customers speciallyissued 

paper that could be used 

like cash in local stores. Over the 

next decade, several franchises 

evolved in which a single bank in 

a major city would accept cards 

as payment with certain merchants 

they had chosen to work with. In 

1966, one of these groups formed 

the Interbank Card Association 

(ICA), which later became 

MasterCard International. 

To reflect its commitment 

to international growth, ICA 

changed its name to MasterCard 

International. In 1987, MasterCard 

became the first payment card to 

be issued in the People’s Republic 

of China. In 1985, we acquired 

the Cirrus ATM network and we

Michael Beirut, a partner at the 

design firm which designed the 

new logo, explained that the new 

Mastercard logo is easier to read 

on phones or digital watches. 

In January 2019, we dropped 

the "Mastercard" name from our 

iconic Brand Mark for many uses. 

The interlocking red and yellow 

circles, known as the Mastercard 

Symbol, can now stand on their 

own. As the consumer and 

commerce landscape continues to 

evolve, the Mastercard Symbol is a 

modern and flexible brand design 

optimized to work seamlessly 

across the digital landscape.
