INDEPENDENT PRIMARY SCHOOLS SWIMMING CARNIVAL Wednesday 7th September 2011 Immanuel College 246 Trinity College 225 Saint Ignatius’ College 199 PAC/Seymour 183 St Peter’s Woodlands 126 Saint John’s Grammar 122 Westminster 115 Pulteney Grammar 62 Westminster School were very generous to organise and host this new carnival for our Primary swimmers this year. A combination of 17 Junior School students and 8 Year 7 students were selected to represent Saint Ignatius’ College. The carnival structure allowed for students to have a number of swims and all of the Saint Ignatius’ College swimmers took to the water with confidence and the desire to compete to the best of their ability. There were some fine individual performances as well as some promising results from our youngest swimmers. Maddison Kane, Tom Roberts and Lachlan Boots (Year 3) represented the College superbly, even winning some of their age group events. The Year 4 swimmers (Sophie Beard, Alison Munday and Grace Roberts) worked hard in the 10 Years and Under category recording some personal best times. For some these swimmers it was also their first interschool competition, so they should be extremely proud of their achievements. Will Ferrari, Sophie Boots, Matthew Foster-Smith, Jonas Suen and Georgina Bailey were strong Year 5 representatives. Year 6 swimmers (Alex Turner, Emmanuel Valente, Jessica Gallasch, Lilli Bowen, Sam Davies and Tom van der Jeugd) performed well in the 12 year old heats. The Years 7s, Abby Duncan, Tony Barker, Sam Boots, Melanie Tudini, Maddie Seymour, James Kennedy, Issy Schwab and Austin Young found their form again after a winter away from school swimming and filled all the heats in the 13 years age group. Thank you to all parents who assisted with the event, especially Mrs Claire Duncan who selected the team and ensured that all swimmers were ready to compete. Summary of Minkey Hockey 2011 – Coached by Lucy Roberts and Michael Robinson This report is provided as a summary of the hockey season Minkey Gold Hockey Team. We really enjoyed attending practices each Friday morning at 7.30 am and were very proud of the team during the season. They won every game except the last which was their best game. The season started off with a bang. The team won the first match 8-1. Everyone contributed and the team passed the ball well to the wings. Then in the second match we welcomed a new member of the team, Tom. We won the second match 2-1. It was a very close game and everyone contributed. The ball was passed down the wings extremely well and the centre was used well. Everyone’s tackling was superb. In the third match we played really well as a team. Cassie and Olivia L played to their positions really well and were involved in every goal. Olivia L scored a freak goal from the boundary line. The score was 5-1. In the fourth match we out played the opposition winning 8-1. Everyone contributed and the ball was passed around evenly. Everyone ran the ball down the wings well. In the last match we played our rivals St Ignatius Red. It was a very intense game of hockey with the score being 5-2 at half time. The team played extremely well and then came out in the second half with all guns blazing with 2 goals in quick succession. Ignatius Red came and scored 2 quickly. Ignatius got 1 back but the score ended up at 9-5 Ignatius Reds way. It was a great game to watch. COLLEGE SPORT & CO-CURRICULAR For enquiries regarding College sports teams: Goal Scorers:- Joel 15, Sam 4, Grace 3, Olivia L 2, Tom 2, Olivia R 2 It was a pleasure to watch them grow as a team and as individual players. We believe all team members have great potential going into the future. We hope that they all continue playing hockey next year. Thank you to Mrs Roberts for being present at every game. Thank you to all the teachers that supported our involvement as coaches especially Mr Brady, Mr Schliebs and Mr Stenta. All girls played extremely well to take them into the Grand Final on 24/9. Alice Winter was magnificent in defence, giving them very little chance to get the ball. Isabel was also very strong in defence and our goal shooters didn’t let us down. Well done again. Good luck for the Grand Final.
