Parc-y-Pentre
Several new bins have been
installed in Parc-y-Pentre.
Rhiwbina's long-awaited pantomime
season is officially back after a
popular community play was
performed to audiences after an
absence of two years.
Murder In The Wenallt was
originally planned for early 2020 but
preparations were cut short due to
the national lockdown. Two years
later, and with restrictions easing, the
cast were finally able to put on the
charity-supporting performance.
The show saw the return of many
recognisable local faces to the
stage, including West End star Peter
Karrie, who played the role of the
Phantom of the Opera in London. The
panto was set in Rhiwbina, providing
ongoing references and jokes about
the local area and its people.
The show's director, Anthea Parker,
told Rhiwbina Living:
"We all needed a laugh and this
panto was packed with awful jokes
and fairy tale characters, sent to cheer
up the people of Rhiwbina!"
Proceeds of the show will once again
go to Tenovus Cancer Care.
Land plans could see Greenhill
School relocated
Greenhill Special School could be
relocated under possible plans put
forward to Cardiff Council as part of
their Local Development Plan.
The 3.8 hectares of land around
the school that currently caters for
students with special educational
needs, could be converted into
residential properties.
Further proposals for a 164-hectare
plot of land in the green belt
north of Rhiwbina has also been
submitted for consideration. Plans
to build on the land, north of the
M4, has come under fire from
residents who insist that the Green
Belt area should not be built on.
Cardiff Council estimates that
the city will need between 19,000
and 30,500 new homes in the
next 15 years to house its growing
population.
In 2017, Greenhill School was
awarded a prestigious National
Association of Advisors for
Computers in Education’s ICT mark
for its innovative use of technology.
The Council considered the
proposals for Greenhill School late
last year. Various options for how
Cardiff will manage housing over
the next 15 years have been put
forward for consideration, including
one plan that will see over 2,000
homes built in a year.
The results and the assessment
of which candidate sites could
form part of the replacement Local
Development Plan will be published
in the autumn.
