Db SUPPLIER AWARD PRESENTED FOR FIFTH TIME
Seven winners selected
from around 35,000 suppliers
Deutsche Bahn presented its DB Supplier
Award for the fi fth time as part
of InnoTrans 2012 in Berlin. With the
award in six categories, together with
a special recognition category, DB
rec ognized the commitment and performance
shown by companies who
have collaborated with Deutsche Bahn
in order to improve both its standard of
quality and products.
“The reliability and quality of our suppliers
are crucial for maintaining the
top service promised to our customers.
We are also increasingly turning our attention
to international markets when
making purchasing decisions, where
we can secure the best value for our
money,” explained Dr. Volker Kefer,
DB Head of Rail Technology and Infrastructure.
DB places some of the largest
contracts in the international rail
industry. With an annual order volume
of around EUR 20 billions, the group
says it secures approximately 600,000
jobs in Germany alone. The company
collaborates with almost 35,000 sup-

GE PowerHaul
locomotives for Europe
At InnoTrans 2012, GE Transportation
presented its broad range of
products and equipment for rail
transportation. According to the
US-based firm, it is a world leader
in this sector. In the outdoor display
area at the trade fair, GE put
on show the first European version
of its PowerHaul locomotive. A particular
feature of this locomotive,
assembled by GE Transportation’s
Turkish partner Tülomsas, is its generous
clearance gauge. This differentiates
the new loco from the
UK version presented at InnoTrans
2010 and operated by Freightliner.

A special highlight for visitors to the
trade fair was the 1:10 scale model
of its experimental Very High Speed
Train. In a series of trials that has now
been completed on a section of test
track it attained a speed of 600 kilometres

At the InnoTrans international transport
technology fair, private transport
operator Netinera Deutschland and
Alstom Transport signed a contract
worth around EUR 300 millions for the
supply of 63 Coradia Lint regional trains.
The new trains will run between Frankfurt
and Saarbrücken and between Koblenz
and Kaiserslautern from December
2014. The 63 trains will operate in
the Southwest Diesel Network and will

sheath as an alternative to the previous
copper signal cable.

MAJOR ORDER FOR ALSTOM
Netinera orders 63 regional trains from Alstom

The Coradia two and three-car
CRH380 series, capable of speeds of
up to 380 kph, is now in regular production.
The group’s public transit
trains are customised for operation in
diesel multiple units can run at a maximum
