LAWN BOWLS Eve-Duncan Apple Trophy Remains a Firm Grip – Final Leg of Annual HKCC Friendly Game As the defending champion in this year’s Eve-Duncan Apple Trophy, a total of twentyfour bowlers of mixed gender wearing the Club’s shirts fought fiercely against the strong challenge put forward by Hong Kong Cricket Club (HKCC) in the final leg of the annual game held at our Indoor Carpet on Saturday 18th March. Our team recaptured the lost ground in the first leg from last August and kept our friendly competitor at bay by winning five rinks and a tie for one rink in the final leg. Thanks to the team’s great efforts, the silver Apple Trophy will remain on our trophy stand for another year. 40 May 2018
Netball News Chairwoman’s Report HKFC Juniors Netball Tassie Brakenridge Netball DSA Chairperson With the 2017-2018 season now finished, I would like to firstly congratulate all of our teams on working so hard throughout the long season, and for your commitment to your team and the DSA. The attendance this year has been the most consistent in recent seasons, which all helps build a strong club culture and enabled smooth transitions of players between teams. The balancing act of having players moving between teams is always a challenge for the coaches, so thanks to our wonderful team of coaches, Ron Arnold, Steph Cuvelier, Nic Viney, Iris Chan and Kate Smith for working together to ensure the strongest teams for the DSA. I also want to thank our physio Kate Thorn, who has done a marvellous job of keeping everyone on court and helping the injured players recover as quickly as possible. Always a smiling face, and certainly well loved by the teams! In the off season, there is plenty of planning and preparation for the 2018-2019 season, so if you are interested in a position on the committee, please let the secretary know, as the AGM is fast approaching on 5th May. If you have sponsorship enquiries or can offer umpiring or coaching skills, please get in contact with us at info@hkfcnetball.com Finally, trials will be held in August, with dates to be confirmed in the coming months. All updates will be posted on our facebook page. Grand Finals March 24th 2018 It was great to see everyone come out on the Saturday for Grand Finals held in the Sports Hall, with big crowds supporting our teams in the Division 1 and Premier Division finals. Both Monsoons and Club competed hard and with good sportsmanship, but were unable to bring home the wins. The end results were; Elanor Lewis - Great pressuring Lois Beatie, brilliantly contesting! U12s Lightning HKFC Lightning girls applied lots of sun cream for their 3rd league game this term, on this very warm, sunny Sunday lunchtime. The last time we faced ISF Dragons was at the end of last season when we battled through to win the 3rd/4th place play off. The girls started really well with our GS/GA shooting lots of successful nets. Going into the 2nd quarter 5-1 up, the girl’s positivity and team work continued on the court and their attacking and defending got stronger through each quarter. Each girl played their position on the pitch with so much confidence which rightly earned them their 17-5 victory. U12s Thunder The girls gave it everything they had against the Hong Kong Cricket Club Ravens. We were down a few players and so our girls had to step it up and play a whole game on a hot afternoon. As usual the HKCC girls played an intense game and Alicia Koo and Ruby Capone in defence made some amazing intercepts and rebounds giving us some additional opportunity. Our centre court girls moved the ball well through the court and getting through the HKCC defence in the goal circle proved tricky at times. Once our shooters, Beca John and Emma Harries had the ball they hardly missed a shot. We were neck and neck at half time but the heat got the better of us and the girls lost to the Ravens 14 -11. A gutsy game to watch with huge grit and determination from a great team of girls. Well done Thunder!
