Tom Park, Executive Director
I think Bob Dylan said it best,
“The times they are a-changin’.” In
seasons of change, our very nature
resists it with every fiber of our
being. In a universe set on a
course of disorder and chaos we
tend to seek and cherish those
moments that bring sense and
understanding. We find comfort
in community and solace in
stability.
But, change comes to everyone.
Whether we seek it or not, it will
invariably be thrust upon us and it
is a matter of acceptance or
resistance.
Here’s to those who help us
face change with grace and
dignity. They give us the
perspective to embrace the
journey of the unknown. And in
doing so, show the way.
The line it is drawn And the curse
it is cast The slow one now Will later
be fast
As the present now Will later be past
The order is Rapidly fadin’
And the first one now Will later be
last For the times they are a-changin’
~ Bob Dylan
Thank You Olga!
It is with a sense of pride and
sadness that Olga Rayo-Kirksey,
our Memory Program Coordinator
has moved on to pursue a growth
opportunity in the senior
industry. We will miss her caring
and steady presence in our
community and ever-present
smile. We want to send her off
with our best wishes and say,
Thank You!
Thank You Zach!
After over three years of being a
cornerstone here at Belmont
Village Hollywood, Zachary Baker,
our Inside Community Relations
Coordinator has relocated to our
Oak Park Community in Chicago.
Zach has served with our
community with distinction and
class and to that we say thank you.
We send Zach off to the windy city
bundled in our well wishes and
fond memories knowing he has a
new adventure ahead of him. We
wish him safe journeys and
... Cheers!

I PINK I CAN!
I PINK I CAN!
Breast cancer is a disease in
which malignant (cancer) cells
form in the tissues of the breast.
It differs by individual, age
group, and even the kinds of
cells within the tumors
themselves. Remember, breast
cancer doesn’t affect only
women. This disease can affect
men as well. Hearing the words
“breast cancer” doesn’t always
mean an end. It can be the
beginning of learning how to
fight, getting the facts and
finding hope. Here at Belmont
Village, we take pride in
ensuring our residents’ optimum
level of health. We are here to
help you schedule examinations
with your doctor to help
prevent!!!
PREVENTION IS THE KEY!!!
Breast cancer prevention begins
with various factors you can
control. For example:
Limit alcohol: The more
alcohol you drink, the greater
your risk of developing breast
cancer. If you choose to drink
alcohol, limit yourself to no more
than one drink a day.
Control your weight: Being
overweight or obese increases the
risk of breast cancer. Being
physically active can help you
maintain a healthy weight, which
helps prevent breast cancer. For
most healthy adults, the
Department of Health and
Human Services recommends at
least 150 minutes a week of
moderate aerobic activity (think
brisk walking or swimming) or 75
minutes of vigorous aerobic
activity (such as running), in
addition to strength training
exercises at least twice a week.
Discontinue hormone
therapy: Long-term combination
hormone therapy increases the
risk of breast cancer. If you’re
taking hormone therapy for
menopausal symptoms, ask your
doctor about other options. You
may be able to manage your
symptoms with non-hormonal
therapies, such as physical activity.
Avoid exposure to
environmental pollution: Some
research suggests a link between
breast cancer and exposure to the
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
found in vehicle exhaust and air
pollution.
