Judi’s Notes:
Take It Easy
National Relaxation Day is
Aug. 15, so try the No. 1
suggestion on the Woman’s Day
list of Relaxation Tips: Drink green
tea. According to the magazine,
research suggests that antioxidants
in green tea can help lower bad
cholesterol, increase good
cholesterol, and help protect
against heart disease and stroke.
Green tea also fights oral decay
and can aid in weight loss, and
there’s some evidence that it may
even protect against certain
cancers. Make the tea good and
hot, adds the magazine, and you’ll
build in extra downtime while
waiting for it to cool.
Historical Battle of August
On Aug. 16, 1780, Camden, S.C.,
turned into an unplanned
battleground during the course of
the American Revolution. An early
morning chance encounter
between the Southern Continental
Army and British forces led to a
full-blown military battle later
that day. The 3,000-strong British
troops overpowered the
inexperienced American militia in
a resounding victory that secured
Britain’s control of the region.
Hats Off to Barbers Everywhere
August 2012
What better time to clean up that
crew cut, moisturize your mullet
or shave off that ’stache than on
National Men’s Grooming Day,
annually the third Friday
in August.
After You!
Aug. 25-31 is the 20th Annual Be
Kind to Humankind Week. Show
you care with these daily
affirmations: Motorist
Consideration Monday,
Touch-a-Heart Tuesday, Willing to
Lend a Hand Wednesday,
Thoughtful Thursday, Forgive
Your Foe Friday, Speak Kind
Words Saturday and Sacrifice Our
Wants Sunday.
Heat and Your Pets
When the weather changes from
warm to hot, you have to
remember to drink plenty of
water. The same goes for your
pets. Make sure your furry friends
have plenty of water to drink
throughout the day, especially if
they spend a lot of time outside.

and talented Josephine’s Kitchen’s team since
Feb. 2, 2006. She is being honored as July’s
Employee of the Month for many reasons. First,
for her loyalty and commitment that shows in
her six years of service. Second, for her strong
team-working ability. Third, for her comforting
customer service with all our residents, and
fourth for always being very helpful and a great
asset to the dining room staff. Please join us in
Circle of Friends
News!
This month, we will be
celebrating with our annual
summer luau! The Circle of
Friends has a long list of crafts
designed so we can celebrate
this party in style! Our new
Circle of Friends Activity
Assistant, Amanda Perry, is
very creative and keeps us
crafting! Our next project will
be writing letters to our troops
still stationed overseas. With
the help of anysolider.com,
we will be sending letters and
care packages to soldiers who
don’t get any or much mail
while stationed overseas.
Claire is all smiles in the
NBH!
Are YOU a LEO?! (07/23
- 08/23)
Balloons, cake, a D.J., party
streamers, fruit punch, vodka,
hors d’oeuvres, and even dancing
girls help make a great party, but
if you don’t have a golden throne
perched on a pedestal along with
a dark purple velvet robe and
crown for your Leo guest to be
displayed in, then you just don’t
know your Leo friend very well.
Leo is the second fire sign of the
zodiac and is symbolized by the
lion. This makes sense for the
Leo’s presentation.
The Leo is very well-known for
their great confidence, astonishing
generosity, limitless vanity,
boundless ambitions,
unbelievable dramatics and
uncompromising superiority.
Neighborhood News!
Last month, we took our first Neighborhood
outing. Activity Assistant Kim and Melissa took
three residents out to enjoy smoothies at Jamba
Juice. They had a great time! We will continue
to take small groups of our Neighborhood
residents out for an outing every week. If you
would like to join your loved one on our next
Neighborhood weekly outing, please contact
Melissa, your Memory Programs Coordinator.
Quite a distance higher than the
rest of the group, the Leo keeps a
powerful appearance, stays secure,
imposes judgment on everything
according to themselves, but
believe it, or not, the Leo honestly
cares for others, but from a
distance. This is fine because we
can clearly hear their roar!
Marie is a LEO!
Yogurtland!
I scream, you scream, we all
scream for ice cream (or
yogurt:-)! Join us as we take a
group to eat some yummy
yogurt at Yogurtland! Enjoy
over 15 different flavors and
toppings! This nice weather
isn’t going to stay around
forever, so let’s take advantage
of it!
Nerissa’s Corner: Why
It’s Good to Smile:-)
We could all do with a bit of
cheering up every now and then,
so with research suggesting that all
we need to do is smile, we look at
how a simple facial expression
could help lighten your mood.
There’s nothing quite like a
winsome smile for perking you
up, as well as those around you.
Smiling, laughing, and positive
thinking have been shown to have
a huge number of health benefits
to both mind and body. Stress has
been linked to a number of health
problems, including heart disease,
Type 2 diabetes, high blood
pressure and obesity.
• When you laugh, your body
releases endorphins. These
are brain chemicals known as
neurotransmitters, which
make us feel happy. They are
also a natural pain and stress
reliever.
• Laughing reduces levels of
cortisol, the stress hormone,
and gives us a quick burst
of energy.
• A good laugh can be
beneficial to the lungs, boost
immunity, and could even
burn off calories.
Smiley, happy people are thought
to have more friends and be more
successful, by appearing more
confident and approachable.
