Here are some recommendations to

Try to join groups in which you are one of the
few representatives from your profession or
corporate rank, rather than organizations comprised
solely of professional colleagues.

member.” We don’t recommend being that
snobbish, but it pays to aim above your station
in selecting groups to join. If you know almost
everyone in a group, or everyone flocks to meet
you like a hungry car salesman when you arrive,
it is time to investigate other groups.

represents health care firms, it might be wise to
join a group of health care communicators. But
your time might be even better invested by
joining women in health care administration
so that you can get
to know, on a personal level, the
decision makers. You’ll learn the
hot spots within their organizations
that affect whether or not
there is the need or the budget to
contract for outside marketing.
