This course is the basic course on understanding dealer<br />
responsibilities. This class will serve as a refresher course and<br />
will teach the requirements of being an auto dealer in Iowa and<br />
how to maintain a dealer’s license. Updates of changes to state<br />
and federal laws and rules and regulations will be provided.<br />
The trainer will discuss new laws enacted during the most<br />
recent legislative session impacting auto dealers as well as<br />
providing new information from federal and state agencies<br />
pertaining to the auto industry. Dealers will be encouraged to<br />
bring forth areas of concern to assist with possible solutions<br />
to these concerns. Dealers will review videos from the staff of<br />
the Iowa Department of Transportation Bureau of Investigation<br />
and Identity Protection and the Consumer Protection Division<br />
of the Iowa Attorney General’s office. Access to updated<br />

completion of a minimum 75-hour course and a written and<br />
skills competency examination is required. You MUST bring<br />

Iowa Critical Care Paramedic endorsement. It is designed to<br />
prepare paramedics to provide advanced critical care during<br />
inter-facility transports, including performing advanced clinical<br />
patient assessments and providing invasive care beyond<br />
the standard scope of advanced pre-hospital care. Includes<br />
modes of transport, flight physiology, bar physiology, and<br />

20 Hour Medication Manager [HYBRID]<br />
The purpose of this course is to prepare individuals to safely<br />
administer or supervise self-administration of non-parenteral<br />
medications in a Residential Care Facility of 15 or fewer beds,<br />
and Assisted Living Program, or other community-based<br />
settings such as Supervised Apartment Living or Supported<br />
Community Living Arrangements. The Prepare to Care Core<br />
Module will be offered at the beginning of the course. All<br />
participants must satisfactorily complete the Core Module prior<br />

Class A Commercial Driver’s License Certificate<br />

Looking to start a career in one of the fastest growing<br />
occupations? Hawkeye’s Class A Commercial Driver’s License<br />
(CDL) training program is designed for adults who would like<br />
to train for a high-demand career in a short-term time frame.<br />
We train on 10 speeds and automatics. The program focuses on<br />
developing safe driving skills including backing, turning, and<br />
driving on rural and suburban roads. You will receive hands-on<br />
training using full-size semitrailers and virtual driving simulators.<br />
You must become proficient in every skill before testing.<br />
Proficient is completion of a task 2 times without instruction.<br />
Upon completion, you will take your vehicle inspection, DOT<br />
skills, and driving tests at Hawkeye to obtain your Class A CDL.<br />
You receive daily training on your schedule, choose your times:<br />
morning 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and/or afternoon 1:00 p.m. to<br />
5:00 p.m. and/or evening 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Graduates can<br />
find employment in a variety of areas including, but not limited<br />
to, a truck driver, spotter, shag driver, and many more. There are<br />

Class B Commercial Driver’s License<br />

This two-week Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)<br />
training program is a proficiency-based program so you<br />
progress through the program as you master the content. This<br />
program will teach you how to operate trucks that require a<br />
Class B CDL license, such as concrete mixer trucks, snow plows,<br />
garbage trucks, and buses. You will develop skills in backing,<br />
turning, and safe driving on both rural and suburban roads<br />
and become proficient in vehicle inspections. Your training will<br />
include individual and classroom instruction and hands-on<br />
driving using simulators and full-size dump trucks. We have<br />
implemented Entry Level Driver Training. You must become<br />
proficient in every skill before testing. Proficient is completion<br />
of a task 3 times without instruction. Upon completion, you<br />
will take your vehicle inspections, DOT skills, and driving tests at<br />

Advanced school bus training will enhance your driving skills to<br />
the next level. Whether you are looking for a new occupation or<br />
want to experience the great feeling of helping people get to<br />
their desired destinations, this course is for you. Using an actual<br />
school bus and driving simulators you will obtain the skills to<br />
drive a bus in all types of situations. During this course you will<br />
learn to drive a school bus in many rural and urban situations.<br />
You will learn to maneuver, the school bus around corners,<br />
over railroad tracks, through backing exercises, and many other<br />
real-life experiences that occur while driving. You will complete<br />
this class with the confidence of driving a full-length bus with<br />
hands-on experiences under the direction of experienced bus<br />
drivers. Class will conclude with the confidence to pass DOT<br />
tests and obtain a bus driving position. This course is much<br />
more than your average training. You will actually be driving in<br />
a variety of “real life situations.” Note: You must have your school<br />
bus permit which will allow you to drive on the roadway, as well<br />
as your school bus and passenger DOT written tests.<br />

Driver’s Education<br />
Hawkeye’s High School Driver Education Program is designed<br />
to help the beginner driver to develop the knowledge, skill<br />
and attitude necessary to become a safe, responsible driver.<br />
Hawkeye Community College provides 30 hours of classroom<br />
instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. This<br />
program meets the requirement of the Iowa Department of<br />
Transportation (DOT) and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) for<br />
individuals to obtain the graduated driver’s license (GDL). The<br />
student will be required to be proficient in their driving at the<br />
end of our course or will be required to drive with the DOT to<br />
get their license. Students must have the ability to schedule<br />
after school and week-end driving times, they must bring their<br />
permit to every class. The student must have a minimum of 10<br />
hours of driving time before the class begins. Attendance is<br />
required for ALL sessions. No exceptions. Students must have<br />
an Iowa driver’s permit before enrolling. Fee can be waived or<br />
reduced for students who qualify in the Waterloo Community<br />
School District. Mandatory Zoom Orientation will be held for<br />
parent/legal guardian and student, notification of day and time<br />
will be sent after registration completion. Please Note: When<br />

Motorcycle: Basic Rider Course<br />
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic Rider Course<br />
is a learn-to-ride education and training safety program that<br />
consists of the online MSF Basic eCourse to address basic<br />
motorcycle knowledge, five hours of classroom instruction with<br />
a RiderCoach to address rider perception and risk management,<br />
and 10 hours of on-cycle, hands-on instruction. Motorcycles<br />
are provided for use during the course. Prior to the first day of<br />
class you will need to read the Rider Handbook and complete<br />
the eCourse online. Price of the eCourse is included and student<br />
will receive an email two weeks before the class start date with<br />
a redemption code. Riders must be able to balance a bicycle to<br />
participate in the riding portion of the course and successfully<br />
complete a riding skills test. This course does have a written<br />
and a riding skills test. Successful completion of BOTH tests is<br />
required to receive a DOT certificate of completion. A course<br />
completion card may provide an insurance discount. This course<br />
is required by Iowa law to obtain a motorcycle operator’s license<br />

Applying Credits to a Technical Program at Hawkeye<br />
If it is determined that the course(s) taken are similar in course content to<br />

ADULT LANGUAGE<br />
Adult Language<br />
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING (ELL)<br />
English language instruction assists individuals of limited English<br />
proficiency to learn the English language. Students are required<br />
to register and take an entry assessment to determine the<br />
appropriate class level. ELL classes are available in eight different<br />
levels. Classes meet at the Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center,<br />
120 Jefferson Street, Waterloo.<br />
Punctual and regular attendance is absolutely necessary for<br />
success. Students, please be on time and attend class every day!<br />

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING CLASS – FREE<br />
Students must:<br />
• complete the registration application<br />
• schedule a time for a free, three-hour assessment<br />
• take an assessment before beginning class<br />
• attend class during the first week<br />
• pay a $30 textbook fee the first week of class<br />
Assessment (3 hours)<br />
Appointments will be made at registration (students must<br />
register and complete an assessment before they will be enrolled<br />
in class). Due to high demand for classes, students may be put<br />
on a waiting list.<br />

INTEGRATED EDUCATION AND TRAINING<br />
Students who are enrolled in the English Language Learning<br />
(ELL) or High School Completion (HSC) programs at the Adult<br />
Learning Center who have qualifying test scores can apply to<br />
take a free Integrated Education and Training (IET) class. In the<br />
fall semester, we offer Commercial Driver License (CDL) IET,<br />
Hospitality Management I-BEST, and Basic Construction Skills<br />
IELCE (ELL only). In the spring semester, we offer Computer<br />
Numerical Control (CNC) I-BEST, Certified Nursing Assistant<br />
(CNA) I-BEST, and Basic Construction Skills IELCE (ELL only).<br />
Register for ELL or HSC to qualify.<br />
FAMILY LITERACY – FREE<br />
Parents enrolled in Hawkeye’s High School Completion Program<br />
or English Language Learning Program with a child 18 or<br />
younger living at home may register for the Family Literacy<br />
Program (FLP). The FLP provides programming for parents<br />
who seek to strengthen their role as their child’s first teacher<br />
as well as free children’s books and materials. The program<br />
also provides one-on-one assistance to parents interested in<br />

PAYMENT POLICIES<br />
For faster response, register online, or by email,<br />
phone or fax 319-266-6772. If a course is full when<br />
we receive your form, you’ll be notified by mail and<br />
your payment will be returned.<br />
You won’t be registered until payment is received.<br />
If paying by check or money order, write the class ID<br />
and the name of the person attending the workshop/<br />
course in the lower left corner.<br />
Billing of tuition and fees to a third party, such as<br />
an employer, is possible upon receipt of written<br />
confirmation through a purchase order, letter on<br />
company letterhead, or fax on company letterhead<br />
with Class ID, name of person attending the<br />
workshop/course, and authorized signature.<br />
REFUNDS<br />
Refunds will be issued to learners who withdraw<br />
at least two business days prior to class start date,<br />
however, there are class exceptions. Please review<br />
your class confirmation for the refund policy specific<br />
to your class.<br />
BOOKS<br />
Hawkeye Bookstore operates on the main campus<br />
in Hawkeye Center. Students have an opportunity<br />
to purchase books the first night of class. Books are<br />
available at the course location. Price printed does<br />
NOT include tax. Prices subject to change.<br />
CLASS CANCELLATIONS<br />
Courses and workshops are subject to cancellation if<br />
the minimum enrollment isn’t attained. In such cases,<br />
you’ll receive a full refund and be notified by email<br />
or phone. Avoid showing up for a cancelled class by<br />
preregistering.<br />
BAD WEATHER CANCELLATIONS<br />
In the event of cancellation for bad weather,<br />
announcements are made over participating local<br />
radio stations: KXEL, KWLO, KFMW, KCNZ, WMT,<br />
KWAY, KOEL, KNWS, KBBG, KZIA, KFJB, KCVM,<br />
KCRR, KKHQ, and KXIA. Announcements are<br />
also made over the following television stations:<br />
KWWL, KGAN, and KCRG. Evening classes will be<br />
cancelled whenever day classes are cancelled due<br />
to bad weather. When in doubt, call 319-296-4444.<br />
