We spoke to owner Dez Foster about how glass is proving to be the king of kitchens

discovering that glass is adding
a dazzling touch of class to their
kitchens and bathrooms.
Dez Foster, owner of Glassmith
Wales, says that glass is becoming
a popular feature in kitchens and
bathrooms for both splashbacks,
wallcoverings and worktops - and
for more than one reason.
“Apart from the fact that they look
absolutely fantastic when installed,
there are other great reasons why
glass is becoming the product of
choice.
“Granite and tile surfaces allow
mould, bacteria, and mildew to
thrive. Glass on the other hand,
is naturally resistant to bacteria
and water, promising a safe and
hygienic environment for you and
your family.”

As well as the hygiene benefits of
using glass in your house, Dez also
highlights the practicalities of using
glass in the family home.
“Food splashes in the kitchen can
be cleaned up effortlessly; likewise
soapy tide marks and toothpaste
smears can be wiped away easily in
the bathroom,” he adds.
Unlike tiles, glass does away with
annoying grout lines that need to be
repeatedly cleaned and maintained.
Glass offers a continuous smooth
surface with the ability to cover up
to 3.6m lengths in one piece.
“You can let your imagination run
wild with colour and can even have
images, patterns or texture added
to the glass,” says Dez.
“Made of toughened glass, the
splashbacks are five times more
resistant than any other splashback
material, which is great news
when it’s being used around a heat
source, or with heavy pots and pans.
“Their resistance to moisture is
also a big bonus when being used
in the bathroom. They make great
splashbacks for the sink or fantastic
shower panels,” says Dez.
