Cat's-ear
Hypochaeris
radicata
One of the
dandelion-lookalikes,
Cat’s-ear is
in the Daisy family,
the Asteraceae.
The leaves are
oblong-lanceolate,
bristly, wavytoothed
and form a
basal rosette. The
stems, usually
hairless, have small
bracts or ‘ears’ with
dark tips along
their length, hence
the plant’s
common name.
Both the ‘ray’ and
‘disc’ florets are
golden-yellow.
Very common in
meadows.
