Europe. They all shared the common goal of triumphing in the old<br />

“New World.” Letters and newspaper headlines boasting of success<br />

had found their way to these prospecting expatriates. Tales of gold<br />

off the Pacific, soaring stocks in Wall Street and Great Plains of<br />

fruitful land outside the huge cities. These were the dreams that<br />

floated through this stubborn ship.<br />

Outside these thoughts of prestige, the passengers had very little in<br />

common. Some were sent by their families to bring back money to<br />

the home, some saw America as the place to spend and grow their<br />

wealth, others simply had no place left after the Great War. The rest<br />

didn’t even know where they were.<br />

One such man was Paul Collison. He was standing just below deck,<br />

staring at the of the great waves.<br />

Paul was wearing a three-piece suit with navy trousers and a jacket<br />

of the same colour. Beneath his jacket was a grey waistcoat and<br />

a tidy white shirt. The suit bore the name of a respected Berlin<br />

tailor who sadly never left the Somme. Paul’s apparel was one of<br />

elegance but the same could not be said for the man himself. On<br />

his face lay a weary expression that looked like it had seen hard
