house in the world, etc. They organised for example the Yves Saint
Laurent auction, which brought in over 350 million euros. They organise
auctions which bring in several millions of dollars almost daily.
PIPA copied things from Christies and was considered worldwide
as the most exclusive pigeon auction house. Very often pigeons
which would seem excellent for other people did not pass our
selection test. People even started saying that it is probably easier
to get into Harvard than to have pigeons auctioned on PIPA. Step
by step we realised that this was the right philosophy. Thomas
Gyselbrecht, now PIPA sales manager, was the moving spirit behind
all of this.
- September 2007: start of a board of directors, of which Thomas
Van Cauwenberghe became the president. He runs a marketing
company in Brussels and consults for PIPA part-time.
- Middle of 2008: PIPA founded the PIPA ELITE CENTER, a center
which will only keep and breed pigeons which are amongst the best
in the world on the one-day long distance. PEC now holds for
example Lucky 848 (the best De Rauw-Sablon breeder in the
world), the New Freddy (one of the best middle distance pigeons
ever in Belgium, who won the title of 1st national ace pigeon KBDB
2010 and 1st Olympiad pigeon 2011 Poznan yearlings (however, he
lost his Olympiad title as PEC did not exhibit him in the Olympiad in
Poland because they feared theft were scared of it being stolen),
the Blue Prince, etc.
- October 2008: PIPA hired Erwin De Vylder, now PIPA CIO.
He was the first IT expert at PIPAs. He is one of Nikolaas’s best
friends and now heads the IT department. Hiring our own IT
people enabled us to build a unique news and auction website.
IT has been and is still working on many revolutionary projects.
- Frans Sablon total auction in February 2009: the friendship with
Frans Sablon was a milestone for PIPA and stimulated us to introduce
more De Rauw-Sablon pigeons in the PIPA ELITE CENTER and
to start writing a book about the magical strain De Rauw-Sablon.
- March 2009: hiring the first Chinese PIPA employee at our offices in
Belgium.
- Working together with the ambassador of our company, Miss
Belgium 2006 Virginie Claes, was a milestone. Later on we also
cooperated with other Miss Belgium’s…
- Ludo Claessens total auction early 2009: at the time we broke three
records: the record of average price per pigeon, that of
total proceedings and that of most expensive pigeon ever.
- December 2009: the Erik Limbourg total auction brought in
1,250,000 euroq! A new total record proceedings…
- November 2010: Brockamp auction, which brought in over
1,000,000 euros. This was the most expensive internet auction at
the time. Furthermore, the most expensive pigeon ever sold in an
auction was sold in the Brockamp auction. ‘Euro Diamond’ was
sold for 170,000 euros.
- December 2010: the Jos Thoné auction set a new record price per
pigeon and a new total proceedings record (1,300,000 euros).
- January 2011: the Pros Roosen total auction, again some new
records. This time the records of total proceedings and most
expensive pigeon ever sold in a public auction were broken.
Total yield: 1,367,000 euros. Most expensive pigeon: ‘Blue Prince’
for 156,000 euros.
- January 2011: Poznan Olympiad stand: the most visited stand in
the Olympiad was the stand of PIPA where the PIPA Collector’s
Edition was handed out, a unique collector’s book containing all
the best fanciers from Europe.
- January 2011: the first official PIPA employee in China is a fact:
Green.
- Early 2011: start of cooperation with the CEO of Group Willy
Naessens, who joined the PIPA board of directors. He is a pigeon
fancier and runs and co-owns one of Belgium’s largest companies.
- August 2011: PIPA worked over 18 months on a book project and
now launches its first pigeon book called ‘the Kingmaker - A
Racing Pigeon Dynasty’ together with Silvio Mattacchione.
- August 2011: purchase of ‘Amalia’, 1. National acebird KBDB
Great Middle Distance. For the second year in a row on of the
most prestigious acebirds moved to the lofts of PEC. Amalia was
raced by Casaert-Senechal and moved to PEC for a record
amount of money.
- January 2012: Andre Verbesselt sells all his pigeons, probably the
most impressing Marcel Aelbrecht-collection ever offered in auction.
His pigeons set a new world record for internet auction,
namely just under 1,300,000 euro.
- January 2012: first two weeks after the record of Andre Verbesselt the
record is crushed, this time by the total auction (minus youngsters) of
Pieter Veenstra at the end of January 2012. Pieter Veenstra the best
performing Dutch long distance loft of the last five years and he
brought all his toppers in one auction! The total was almost 1,900,000
euro, directly the most expensive pigeon auction ever held.
- July 2012: introduction of DNA. In July 2012 PIPA was working on
preparation fora bout a year, to arrange auctions of all youngsters
from one fancier offered on PIPA to be accompanied by DNA
profiles. PIPA considers this one of the giant steps in history of
pigeon auctions. It sets a whole new standard and PIPA is proud to
fulfill a pioneering role.
- July 2012: introduction of the ERP-systeem at PIPA. The ERPsysteem
centralizes all features of administration and accounting.
It automizes many things, so PIPA can work even faster and more
correct; a great step in the professionalizing of our administration! 141
