Jan Keen
Just a few fanciers are able to remain amongst the greatest in their region, season after
season. Jan Keen from Ter Apel is such a fancier, who keeps on showing great class especially
on one day NPO battles. 50 years of pigeon experience in combination with a great strain of
mainly Van Loon pigeons resulted in an era of National top. With 5x NPO top 10 winner
‘Michael’ as solid breeding wonder, Jan Keen keeps on succeeding in breeding winners
and acebirds from club until NPO level.

As a 10 year old boy, Jan Keen was introduced to pigeons
by a nearby farmer, who gave him some fancy pigeons.
A small loft was built at the farm Jan lived and at a time
a ringed racing pigeon found a spot between the fancy
pigeons; more and more pigeons came and soon a loft
arose at the the Keen-farm. Many years later with a bag full
of experiences, Jan decided to start a store in animalsupplies;
with pigeon supplies as specialty. Extra service
was the weekly hour where Belgian vet. Fernand Marien
came to inspect pigeons from fanciers all over the area; the
name Jan Keen became quite famous from that time on.
Until then Jan Keen had performed really well, winning a/o
2. & 7. Best Dutch fancier WHZB, however a whole dimension
in his performances came when Jan brought in 6 direct
pigeons of Louis van Loon in 1995. The best move he ever
made, these pigeons were the best cross material a fancier
could wish for. In the last decade this super base was
crossed with top pigeons of Fernand Marien, B. Thielen
(Koopman lines of ‘Beatrixdoffer’ and ‘Kleine Dirk’), original
Koopman, Günter Prange.
The last years probably the greatest crack (and modern
founding ace) was ‘Michael’, winner of 5x top 10 NPO in
all +600 km racing … it made him 2. Nat. acebird long
distance Eendaagse Fondspiegel over 3 years of racing.
‘Michael’ is grandchild to ancient founding hen ‘Goudklompje’
(Bellens x Van Dyck), whose bloodlines are
richly present in every modern crack, like ‘Speed Arrow’,
‘Blue Diamond’, ‘Blue Wonder’, ‘Calimero’, etc. With the
golden bloodlines treasured very carefully, it is safe to
say that Jan Keen’s future in the top of Dutch pigeon
racing is secured!
