Masters of Barcelona … that is the Dutch partnership of Piet van de Boogaard & Marco van Buuren.
Wonderful marathon performers with year after year one big goal; excelling on the International
classic from Barcelona. And what an effort it was when in 2011 their name stood on top of the
International Barcelona result, winning 1. prize against 26,044 birds from the Catalan capital with
‘Evelyn’; another topper ‘Katsu’ was crowned 1. Int. acebird Barcelona in 2 years of racing; for sure
bringing in such performances are master class on the most important pigeon race in the world.

Some years ago Piet van de Boogaard made the move of
his career; switching from one day racing to mainly the
biggest marathon battles … he went to Antoon van Haaren,
great long distance icon to get him 10 pigeons of the best
Van de Wegen and Van Wanroy lines Antoon owned.
Amongst them was the first real Barcelona crack ‘Champ
93’, winner of 204.-216.-412. Nat. Barcelona … golden
bloodlines that still are base of the breeding colony of
Boogaard & Van Buuren.
A partnership was formed when Marco van Buuren since
2004, who runs a coffee corner. First in 2008 they raced
their first Barcelona edition as a partnership and within
4 years it is amazing how fast they made a name for
themselves. On all 4 editions (1238 km) they clocked at
least 50% in the best 25% and in just those 4 years they
race the 1. International acebird and the 1. Int. Barcelona
winner … In 2011 they also won 147. National with a full
sister to the winner ‘Evelyn’, this same full sister had
already won 19. Nat. St. Vincent in 2009; it emphasizes
the super class of this great inbred colony!
The pigeons of Boogaard & Van Buuren also managed to
win top positions on classics like Cahors, St. Vincent,
Bordeaux and Marseille for examples. All hard battles
where the toughest pigeons stand out in the crowd …
Even though ‘Champ 93’ was sold some years ago, Piet
and Marco managed to bring these golden bloodlines
(Brüggeman, Van der Wegen & Van Wanroy) back to their
lofts via Hoppe-Bogevic… the trust they had in these
bloodlines is rewarded with the supreme performances;
the famous ‘Katsu’ and ‘Evelyn’ lines are bound to bring
many more years of supreme successes.
