BAYER<br />
James Bayer, 87, passed away peacefully into eternal life on<br />
Nov. 15, <strong>2022</strong>. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary, of 62<br />
years and six children, one of whom he will greet in heaven, his<br />
youngest son, John.<br />
His children—Jim (Paige) Bayer, Beth (Mark) Taylor, Joe<br />
(Theresa) Bayer, Christine (Scott) Cramblett, and Dan (Julia)<br />
Bayer, along with 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren—<br />
will forever honor and cherish his memory. James was deeply devoted<br />
to his family and faith, who supported him and ultimately<br />
gave him peace.<br />
He came from a large family of eight children and was a longtime<br />
member of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church and the Knights<br />
of Columbus. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed activities<br />
with his special son, John, talking with people, and making<br />
others laugh. He lived his final days in loving care from his special<br />
friend, Lynsie, and others at Bluebird Retirement Community.<br />
The family welcomed friends on Nov. 21 at Rader-McDonald-Tidd<br />
Funeral Home, West Jefferson. A Mass of a Christian Burial was<br />
held on Nov. 22 at Sts. Simon & Jude Catholic Church, West Jefferson,<br />
with Father Dwayne McNew officiating. Burial followed at<br />

DENESKI<br />
Richard Alan Deneski II, “Rick,” 44, of Woodstock, Ohio, passed<br />
away unexpectedly on Nov. 17, <strong>2022</strong>. Born in Wheeling, W.Va., to<br />
Richard Alan Deneski and the late Connie L. Deneski, Rick was a<br />
graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School, Class of 1997. He was<br />
a proud veteran of the United States Navy.<br />
In addition to his mother, Connie, Rick was preceded in death<br />
by: his maternal grandparents, Bona and Harold Grimes; his paternal<br />
grandparents, Henry Sr. and Ida Deneski; his uncles, Mike<br />
Smith and Rocky Grimes; and his father-in-law, William Dennis.<br />
Rick is survived by: his beloved wife of 23 years, Beth Deneski;<br />
his father, Richard Deneski; sister, McCall (Chris) Elgin; brother,<br />
breakfast with Santa<br />
• London Rotary. The London Rotary Club’s Breakfast with<br />
Santa is slated for 8:30-11 a.m. Dec. 3 at the <strong>Madison</strong> County Senior<br />
Center, 280 W. High St., London. Meals are $7; free for children<br />
2 and younger. The menu includes pancakes, eggs and sausage, and<br />
a choice of juice, milk or coffee.<br />
The Christmas cash raffle features: first prize, $300 cash from<br />
Merchants National Bank; second prize, $250 cash from Edward<br />
Jones (Greg King and Brendan Shea); third prize, $250 from Eagles<br />
Aerie Lodge 950; and fourth prize, $200 gift certificate from the<br />
<strong>Madison</strong> County Chamber of Commerce. Raffle tickets are $5 each<br />
or $25 for six. The drawing will be held at<br />
11 a.m. Dec. 3 at the senior center. Entrants<br />
need not be present to win.<br />
• Trinity United Methodist Church. The<br />
church, 8530 Lilly Chapel-Georgesville Rd.,<br />
is hosting a free breakfast with Santa and<br />
Santa gift shop on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon.<br />
• Mount Sterling Masonic Lodge 269.<br />
The lodge, 54 N. London St., is hosting two<br />
Breakfasts with Santa, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17,<br />
9 a.m.-1 p.m. Everything is free. The menu<br />
includes pancakes, sausage and drinks.<br />
Santa and his helper will be there. Families<br />
are welcome to take photos. Every child will<br />
receive a gift. Visitors are encouraged to donate<br />
non-perishable food items for the<br />
Mount Sterling Community Center food<br />
pantry (soups are especially needed). The<br />
Mount Sterling Chamber of Commerce is<br />
co-hosting the breakfast.<br />

Visitation was held Nov. 25-26 at Rader-<br />
McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home. The funreal<br />
was held on Nov. 26 at the funeral home. A<br />
private family burial was observed.<br />

Gladys L. Hawks, 87 of London, OH and formerly Ashville,<br />
passed away on <strong>November</strong> 10, <strong>2022</strong> at Kobacker House, Columbus,<br />
Ohio. Gladys was born on May 17, 1935 to the late Edgar and Lenna<br />
(Diehl) Turvey and was a graduate of Saltcreek High School and<br />
worked many years at the Circleville RCA.<br />
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband,<br />
Charles, son Jon, brothers Maurice and Richard, and niece Elaine. She<br />
is survived by children, Mark, Marsha and Lora. She is also survived<br />
by grandchildren Tessa (Mike Fout), Randy, Josh, Kenneth, Austin and<br />
John; great grandchildren Brandon, Zachary, Kegan and Maddy;<br />
brother Keith (Barbara) Turvey of White Plains, NY; several nieces and<br />
nephews, loving friends and neighbors.<br />
Visitation will be Saturday, <strong>November</strong> 19th from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.<br />
with a Celebration of Life Service at 4:30 with Dr. Kevin Thomas,<br />

Nicholson, Marilyn Atkins, 87, of<br />
Springfield, passed away peacefully at Kettering<br />
Medical Center, on October 17, <strong>2022</strong>. Marilyn was<br />
born on July 19, 1935 in South Charleston, OH the<br />
daughter of Andrew and Margaret (McCormick)<br />
Atkins. She graduated in 1954 from Midway High<br />
School, Sedalia, OH. She spent her childhood in<br />
Sedalia before moving to Springfield after graduation. She was<br />
employed by the Springfield News-Sun and later by Emro Marketing<br />
(Speedway LLC) where she retired. In 1956 she married John A.<br />
Nicholson. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 397, the Union<br />
Club, VFW Auxiliary Post 8673 and American Legion Post 286, New<br />
Carlisle, OH. She loved being with her family and friends and will be<br />
greatly missed.<br />
Survivors include her brother, Eric (Linda) Atkins of Otway, OH;<br />
nephews, David Brown of Springfield, Douglas (Yukari) Atkins of Richmond,<br />
IN, Wayne (Dawn) Atkins of Frederick, CO and John (Gina)<br />
Atkins of Peru, IL; niece, Lori Bale of Saint Paul, MN and many other<br />
great and great-great nephews and nieces and her beloved cat<br />
Mickey. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Frances<br />
Atkins Morley; brothers, Raymond Atkins and Steven Atkins; nephew,<br />
Dennis Atkins; great nephew, Chance Atkins and step-father, Leslie<br />
Baile.<br />
Her body was donated to the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright<br />
State University. A gathering of family and friends will be held at<br />
Jackson, Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield, OH on<br />
Monday, <strong>November</strong> 28, <strong>2022</strong> at 10:00 am with services to follow at<br />
11:00 am. Graveside services will be at Range Township Cemetery,<br />
Sedalia, OH at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be<br />
made to a no kill animal shelter of your choice or your favorite charity.<br />

Teachers, the West Jefferson Girls Softball Team,<br />

flowers, and kindness from everyone has been<br />
overwhelming. We and all of you lost a very<br />
special person when Kimberly was taken from us<br />
way too soon. Your support shows how much<br />
