Young tennis stars to play on big stage
FOUR YOUNG tennis players
have earned the opportunity
to play centre-court in a new
tournament in the lead up to
Auckland’s ASB Classic early
next year.
Bishopdale players Aliyah
Daly, 11, and Nicholas Rayner,
12, along with Burnside Park’s
Sakeri Parnell, 13, will compete
in the Road to the ASB Classic
competition in January after
qualifying through regional
playoffs last week. Cashmere’s
Emmeline Gale, 11, has also
qualified.
The inaugural Road to the ASB
Classic is presented by Jaguar
and the Lavie Tennis Academy, a
performance tennis organisation
based in Auckland.
The tournament consists
of players under the age of 14
from all areas of the country
competing in a 16-player pool,
with finals of the competition
being played before the ASB
Classic men’s singles final on
January 14.
Academy founder and owner
Sebastian Lavie said the organisation
is “delighted” to give
young tennis players the opportunity
to compete on the courts
of the ASB Classic.
“It’s going to be an exciting
time to see the best young talent
from around the country compete
surrounded by big crowds
and some of the world’s best
tennis players,” he said.
Winners will receive a prize
