In Brief EgyptEgypt among top 10 world’s fastest growing economies in 2022: IDSCThe Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center(IDSC) has announced Egypt is among the top 10 fastestgrowing economies in the world in 2022. The center addedthat many developments took place in 2022 in spite of theinternational crises that had a negative impact on globaleconomies.The IDSC noted that Egypt drew the world’s attention to itsability to confront and invest in a time of crisis, highlightingthat in 2022, Egypt ranked the first country in the Middle Eastto issue Samurai bonds and the first country to produce thefirst 100% locally manufactured ventilators in the Middle East.Egypt is also among the top eight nations on the 2022 AfricaSDG Index, which provides an assessment of where Africancountries stand with respect to the SDGs and their progresstoward the goals, the center said.Egypt is the first in hotel projects in Africa 2022, and fifthglobally in the Energy Use Index according to the ClimateChange Performance Index 2023. Egypt also jumped 42 placesin the World Bank’s 2022 GovTech Maturity Index (GTMI) torank among the top 10 fastest growing economies in the worldin 2022 as per the International Monetary Fund.NBE, Banque Misr issue 25% saving certificatesfor a yearBanque Misr and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) issued savingcertificates with an annual return of 25% for a period of one year, inlight of the high inflation rates. The return of the certificate is paidat 25% interest at the end of the term, or at a monthly rate of 22.5%.The issuance of savings certificates aims to encourage citizens tosave their money in banks, in order to control high inflation rates.The core inflation rate in Egypt recorded its highest level since 2017in November, at 21.5%, compared to 19% in October, thus completingthe upward trend that began almost a year ago, according to CentralBank of Egypt data.EGX’s trading valuesexceeds EGP 1 Trillionfor 1st time everThe Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX)trading values exceeded EGP 1 trillionfor the first time ever during 2022,according to the head of the EGX,Ramy El-Dokani.El-Dokani said during a press conferencethat the total trading amountof EGP 1.094 billion in 2022, addingthat the year witnessed the recordingof the largest number of transactionswithin one day in the history ofthe Egyptian Stock Exchange, with109,000 transactions.Market capitalization witnesseda significant increase during 2022,reaching its highest level in its historyat the end of each year, reaching EGP961 billion, representing 12.3% of thegross domestic product (GDP), afterit recorded an increase of EGP 195.7billion during 2021.The total number of transactionsimplemented during 2022 reached 11million, compared to 11.4 million in2021.8 January 2023www.BusinessTodayEgypt.com
