Zones Review
The Conservation Zones
Review has nothing to do with
conservation. It is a guide for
developers as to what they
can build and a greenwashing
exercise that should put our
Council to shame.
It is deliberately skewed
to releasing as much land as
possible to construction.
The public have been ignored
and treated with contempt –
presented with a mountain
of subjective documentation
that no ordinary citizen can
understand.
It makes a mockery of the
environmental and ‘Have Your
Say’ PR piffle that saturates the
council’s website.
I believe this Review and its
deception is a turning point;
community trust has already
been eroded with the current
DA approval system, so what
hope can we have in them
policing slacker regulations,
with no avenue of appeal?
If Council thinks a strategy
of proposing the absurd and
then compromising with the
ridiculous will prove they’re
listening, then they are wrong.
This Conservation Zoning
Review should be thrown out.
State Election #1
I applaud Independent for
Pittwater candidate Jacqui
Scruby for taking a stand on
local infrastructure issues
and the integrity of State
Parliament. Some solid plans to
achieve her aims would be nice.
As Jacqui is a conservationist
I’m surprised that she has
not announced any plans
regarding the eradication of
local feral animals, invasive
plant, shrub or tree species.
I will listen to her arguments
on renewable energy and
cooking without gas when
she becomes a cost planner or
estimating engineer, with a few
hints on how to cook fried rice
electrically.
Meanwhile, I can never vote
for a Liberal or Labor candidate
until they stand up and say: “I’d
love to represent you, however I
can only do what the unelected
officials at Head Office tell me
to do.” When any Liberal or
Labor candidate can do that,
we’ll all be wishing for firstpast-the-post
voting.
State Election #2
I’m not particularly interested
in politics but I have had
dealings with Rory Amon
as a councillor regarding a
walkway collapsing into water
at Bayview. He definitely made
some progress with this safety
concern, which the Council
once neglected.
Also, I think Independent
Jacqui Scruby isn’t doing
herself any favours with her
voice running other parties
down. Just stay focused on
what you can do, not what you
think happened in the past
because of others.
Crossings danger
I can’t believe Council allows a
right turn into Avalon Parade
exiting Old Barrenjoey Road.
I’ve seen 11 cars held up
waiting for a car to turn right. It
should be ‘no right turn’.
More serious are the new
pedestrian crossings. Now set
back from the intersection,
cars, vans and trucks creep
in seeking to turn right
from Avalon Parade into Old
Barrenjoey Road. This blocks
the view of drivers of cars
heading west on Avalon Parade,
endangering pedestrians. I
even saw an elderly lady on
a mobility scooter sensibly
waving a flag from behind
a van, as she could not see
approaching traffic and they
could not see her!
The Shared Space is a great
idea but several features make
it dangerous.
