A kids day out for
the whole family
FUN:
CELEBRATE THE small people
in your life at Te Rā O Ngā
Tamariki – Children’s Day, a
free community event in New
Brighton early next month.
City council community
recreation advisor Shanelle
Temaru-Ilalio said mini jeep
rides, bumper boats, pony rides,
bouncy castles, and stage performances
are among the free
entertainment on offer.
“What a great way to spend a
special day out making memories
with the kids,” Temaru-Ilalio said.
The Christchurch event is just
one of many being held around
the country on Sunday, March 5
to celebrate children.
“It’s all about putting our
tamariki first and making sure
they know how special they are,
not just to their immediate families,
but the whole community,”
said Temaru-Ilalio.
“The activities and entertainment
are free, and kids will have
plenty of opportunities to try
something new and fun, alongside
their favourite grown-ups.”
People are encouraged to bring
picnics and make a day of it.
“There will be . . . some food
and drink vendors on site too,”
said Temaru-Ilalio.
Community groups will
be hosting family-focused
information stands and
demonstrations throughout the
day as well.
• Children’s Day is being
held at the Green Space,
on the corner of 152 New
Brighton Rd and Locksley
Ave, on March 5 from
11am-3pm. To get to the
event, take the No. 7 Metro
bus along New Brighton
Rd. Free parking, bike and
scooter stands will be
available on site.
