being on time for anything was important.
For instance, had I waited until she had got
the bus at 8am to go to work, I would not
have seen her and would not have had the
residual grief that said meetings tended
to throw up. As a result, I have always
been early, can’t abide lateness and would
sooner set off half hour in advance as
opposed to run a risk of being late. The
younger end just doesn’t grasp it at all.
As a result, if Liam is ever driving or
you have any arrangement with him, just
arrive later than he says, because it will
never happen at the time appointed. He
got engaged at Christmas and I bet the
ring still hasn’t arrived. On this day, he
shocked me by ringing to say we were
setting off half an hour earlier than had
been arranged. Incredible till it turned out
that he needed to drive all the way home
to pick up the coat he had forgotten in
the morning. Lending him one wouldn’t
do because he had left his wallet and all
the tickets for the game in the said coat.
I despaired.
Now, the time we set off was just
heading to rush hour and, after fighting
our way across town, half an hour later we
had the sodding coat. We had pleasantly
discussed this minor diversion and also
which would be the quickest way to
Wigan. Sadly, we then headed in the
opposite direction, over that trouble free
route known as the Snake Pass, much
to my chagrin on the matter. Apparently
then, when most of the roads to the Snake
were shut, that was somehow my fault,
especially as I had stopped us going over
Chapel-en-le-Frith. Nothing to do with
fetching the coat though, obviously.
