This was a significant game for John
Gannon who made his debut from the
bench and scored his first United goal.
United’s other scorers included Martin
Pike, Mark Todd and Peter Duffield.
Two sides who were in the
1995 Premier League the previous
season, with United sitting inside the
play-off places seeking an instant return
ahead of a trip to Boundary Park to face
Oldham. United were behind after five
minutes, with Paul Rogers levelling a
minute later. Nathan Blake made it 2-1
United but Oldham hit back with two
goals to lead. Late on Jostein Flo netted
an equaliser for United, the second time
he’d scored against the Latics during the
1994-95 season.

remained sixth after a Colin Morris
penalty, a Keith Edwards goal and a rare
strike for defender Bob Atkins, recently
back in the side, as United won 3-1.
United continued to climb away
2014 from the League One drop
zone under Nigel Clough, recording a
sixth straight win at Colchester United.
Following a recent brace against
Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, Chris
Porter was on target again as his 87th
minute penalty earned United a 1-0 win
as United jumped over Colchester and
into 12th position.
