2023 Safe Sports Social Program

Welcome to the 11th annual Safe Sports Social! It is hard to believe that this event has been held annually for more than a decade! It’s equally hard to believe how many kids YOU have helped keep safe and thriving! Tonight is about a look back at all of the kids you have helped and a look forward for all of those who continue to need your support. If we learned anything through the pandemic - and we certainly learned a lot - it is that sports are an incredibly important part of the social and physical well-being of our children. The need to stay safe and thriving through sports is present everyday. It doesn’t only live with the major, season-ending injuries. Instead, kids need your support every day - to stay in the game, literally and figuratively. On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to Thank you for being part of the Safe Sports Team and making a difference every day! Yours, James Vailas, MD

Student Ambassador Program
2023 Laura C. Decoster Award Recipient
Margaret Sheehan
Bishop Brady High School
The Laura C. Decoster award is awarded to
a Safe Sports Student Ambassador who has
gone above and beyond in promoting sports
safety in their communities. The recipient
must be a very active member within the
Student Ambassador for Sports Safety
program, as well as a leader among their
peers and within their communities.
The Laura C. Decoster Award is given to a Junior
or Senior Student Ambassador that embodies
key characteristics of the organization’s founding
executive director, Laura Decoster. Laura spent her
career in service to the young athletes in Greater
Manchester. The recipient of the award must embody
the same spirit and beliefs.
Margaret has accumulated over 40 volunteer hours
over her two years as an extremely active member of
the Student Ambassador for Sports Safety Program.
She has held leadership positions on the executive
council and is a consistent “go-to” person for any last
minute events and projects that arise. She can always
be counted on to lend a hand or a voice, whether it
is to fill a last-minute need at concession stands or
creating various videos.
Margaret is also an effective advocate for sports safety
at Bishop Brady HS. She is very active around the
athletic training facility and happy to help in whatever
way she can. Although she is a quiet leader, she is a
FANTASTIC role model for the other members of
our program. She truly understands the Safe Sports
mission and what it means to be an ambassador and
a leader.
Congratulations, Margaret!
